^^ my thoughts exactly when i read that
I got into beta back on July 14, 2005 and I played it for a little while for 2-3 weeks then stopped because it just wasn't fun enough. I decided to try it out again since there's probably alot more people playing it right now for the weekend beta event thing and because I wanted to see what's changed if anything. Well unfortunately they never fixed my biggest gripe with the game back in early beta stages the steering and braking.
The steering/braking in this game is way off track it's unresponsive and jittery rather than responsive and smooth like it should be. You press the brake and its a complete stop as if you'd slammed on the brakes and locked them for a good 3-4 seconds. It doesn't matter if you tap the space bar or hold it down you brake the same you can't just ease on the brakes like you should be able to. The same stipulation applies to steering to some degree it's not where it should be you can't softly drift to the left or right side which makes it difficult getting on and off of ramps and other narrow areas as well as persueing another player/vehicle.
I had faith that this could really be an awsome game and draw in alot of new and old players alike to the mmo genre but with the work they've done to this game I honestly think people are gonna have some very mixed results. If your expecting the game to feel alot like twisted metal or carmageddon id say look elswhere. It does to a certain extent it just doesn't deliver fully in my opion. I suppose they could fix thoughs things in time tho. Different vehicles only seem to feel slower or quicker they don't seem to steer much different if at all. If there were some sensitivity to braking in this game it could solve the biggest flaw the game has right now in my opion.
Needless to say even tho it doesn't really meet my standards I feel the game should be at I suggest trying it out for yourself if your intrested because who knows you might enjoy it more. It does have it's share of cool points to it tho. It's just lacking things I would value the most for this style game.

Don't hit the brake hit the back button and you'll get a slow stop, think of the brake as a hand brake I noticed this fairly early on that you can do nice tight 180's hitting the bake and left/right together
I've not had to many issues with lining up jumps unless I'm in mud or snow but I wouldn't expect to normally doing 80mph in either of those
The in car graphics are really nice and for the most part lag free (some bad lag in some areas )
So I'd recommend anyone even slightly interested in cars to give it a try.
