What exactly does rank do?

I am a hardcore member but I don't know what that exactly does. I mean what's the point of
ranking up if you don't get any special privileges. I looked in the F.A.Q. but all it said about rank
was how to get higher and how your rank is calculated but nothing about what rank does.
If anyone can tell me, please do.
