They always say a "living breathing world". Why not make an MMO where the world is alive?

I always read the phrase "a living breathing world" when looking through a topic on here, but really the only thing alive in a MMO are you,the monsters, and the npcs. So why not make a MMO where the world is really alive? You see a big dome appear on the ground and next thing you know your fighting a monster. You nearly get killed by a horde of that monster and you can go over slash open a wall and hide out there.

The whole world would be like it's literally "a living breathing world",it'd be like the whole world was out to get you. IMO that sounds like a fun game. Not to mention what you could do with that kind of world.

It's coming, it's just a matter of waiting for the technology. Almost here though.

At least, a fully interactive world. I don't know about a world that's actually a monster or something, heh... I think you've just misunderstood the phrase, as far as that's concerned.

Well this is just a case of implementation... but for what it's worth Runescape has random events.

What your suggesting is although a cool idea, still quite a large bit away from current technology.
Give it 3-5 years and we might be getting closer.

after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...

Well i guess it would be not that far into the future I guess like the Sim 2 you live everyday doing almost what you want but as with mmorpg there be no AI controling you as in the Sim (you are god). If you ever heard of Dark And Light they have the techy to have huge numbers of players on one world which is the key to making a living almost real world. then it just the graphics of creating the world everything that comes with it and making it possible for the player to interact and do as he/she pleases in game. I guess you mean like real life. a real simulation of life on earth

    sadly tho

as human beings we would find a way to destroy it. Try getting a 13 year old to clean his room let alone a "living breathing world".

Would like to see an attempt tho :)

The world is not out to get you Mr. Casual. Stop working in RL and put some hours in the game like the rest of us. What's that? Your time in RL is more VALUABLE. Nuff Said.

If your wondering where I got this idea for an MMO world then play Alter Echo for the ps2. Great game IMO an entirely different world compared to other games, glad they took a stride from the same old stuff.

I'd say it's more like 10 years to that.

Hopefully in about 3-5 years MMORPGs will have at least more realistic combat system (not the hitpoint kinda thing as I wrote on another thread). It hasn't changed that much since EQ.
