Your opinions on the instancing use in Guild Wars

GmrLeonGmrLeon Member Posts: 118

Okay,we all know Guild Wars has alot of instancing. Some say it has to much and some don't mind, but I want to know you the players of Guild Wars opinions on it. So do you think it is overused?

I think they could have used instancing, but in a different way myself.

An instance is the players/groups own version of the map and can sustain only so many people. GW's instanced maps can hold a ton of monsters..so why not players? Just make it's instancing similar to in the towns,if there's to much lag in the district(map outside of the town)that your in,simply go to another.

IMO,that's a good fix to it's to much instancing...

  • i personally think its fine like it is now
& i voted IT CAN STAY  for several reasons
if they should switch over to your idea at this point, it would be WAY to mutch work

1: monsters that die stay dead at this point, but if you let more people in 1 map, you should make them respawn too

2: maps of regions in guild wars are way to small to hold as mutch people as in cities
if 50 people are in 1 map, you'd join the map, maybe find 1 enemy to kill that isn't fighting already
& then run for like 10 minutes till you find another one
    would be booring believe me

3: if you let more than only your own party, together in 1 map, you should figure out some thing for killstealing, itemdrops, ....
hm now that i think of it, item drops are already tagged for 1 person so that should not be a problem
but think about the kill stealing, if you are attacking some desert worm, & i come in & join in the fight,
    don't think you'd be happy?..
thats 1 of the reasons i like the instancing, cus you get rid of all the killstealings (and of course lag a bit too :p)

4: i think 50 or more in 1 map would defenatly decrease the performance of the game, i think you'd find mutch more lag ingame than there is now & generating more lag is not exactly what we want is it?

    Its fine as it is.

I used to play WoW and and many, many times there would be groups of people literally queued up waiting for a mission boss to respawn - which obviously ruins any immersion factor.

Don't know why people always bash Gw instances - think about Wow or most other similar games, you stand in the vlllage/town/outpost LFG, get a group and head straight to the mission location - ignoring other players along the way anyway. Its not really that different from GW is it?

Plus instancing allows for much more exciting mission ideas and effects which just wouldn't be possible if it were a persistant world. Although even GW could do this much better...

Well both of you have made good points and if there were more people on the map it would suck because there are only enough monsters for 1 person or a group.

I would like to see what it would be like for one day though..you know like a test and then afterwards have a poll about who liked it or not.

On this very poll I voted I don't care either way..I'm neutral in this whole thing. I just wanted to see the GW players opinions.

  • ok i can see what you want, but we all know this isn't gonna happen :)
they cant possible invest time & money in something that will change ALL of the gameplay, ALL of the game engine  for just 1 day :D

Yea,well I didn't think it would affect the gameplay a huge amount. I wonder how they're gonna do it with Factions...

I think they do an alright job of using instances. They could just do it better than they have and do more with it like they way Simu is proposing to use instancing in Hero's Journey.

I hate campers, afk loot bots, not being able to "do" something because you have to wait for the game.

I prefer instancing that guild wars has done.  I wish you could buy and place housing and have player merchants ingame.  You could do this without ruining missions spawns and immersion by allowing it in certain areas.  It would also fill out the maps somewhat with small player "huts" near Ascalon, Droks, Krayta.

Just my wishes for an expansion.

I'd like houses in GW myself...I'd make a house somewhere in the Shiverpeak Mountains.

The only thing I don't like about the instancing in the game is that I can't keep asking for a group to travel with. Not to mention practically nada of my friends have this game.
