Battered woman syndrome (sometimes battered wife syndrome) is a recognised psychological condition to describe a woman who, because of constant and severe domestic violence sometimes involving physical abuse by a male partner, becomes depressed and unable to take any independent action that would allow her to escape the abuse. The condition explains why abused women often do not seek assistance from others, fight their abuser, or leave the abusive situation. Sufferers have low self-esteem, and often believe that the abuse is their fault. Such women usually refuse to press charges against their abuser, and refuse all offers of help, often becoming aggressive or abusive to others who attempt to offer assistance. Although the condition usually affects women, children and more rarely men can also exhibit the syndrome.
When will the people who constantly defend and pay for this game wake up? How many times will they say the same thing to you about fixes and increased communication before you can look past the Star Wars name? A month or so before the NGE Raph Koster posted on the forums about increased communication and they give 2 weeks notice about the NGE after they make you pay for an expansion?
Does the Star Wars name and so called community really make you that blind? By continuing to pay this company you give every right to any other business to treat it's customers in the exact same way as they treated you, because you blindly follow some brand name of the product and hang on to every false sense of hope their Community Relations team (which is paid to do exactly that) spew to you?.
Take a look at the definition above and then look at the history of SWG and you might find some striking similarities. Before you resub for this month think about how you're settling for a mediocre game because of the brand name and friends who are just like you and hope for a future which has been promised for almost 3 years, and what it actually could be if you looked past the blinders for one minute and hope that someone with a clue will take over this license and give it what it deserves. Stop settling for garbage. You shouldn't be playing a game hoping they fix it.
If you could please show me one post from any NGE (even SWG before a majority woke up) supporter which doesn't include phrases such as:
1) Look at the server population its growing: (insert random screenshot of a player event to boost population figures, free 15 day return, or 2nd slot players who are bored. If you don't think they took a huge subscription loss by introducing 2nd slots and people cancelling accounts you have to be dilusional.)
2) The Devs are working hard, look how many fixes they are doing in Pub 27 and Hotfixing: Well if you look at any other game, this is considered a beta/alpha stage (which you are paying for). Everything you see them fixing are things which should have been fixed BEFORE RELEASE.
3) The Devs are communicating to us now: How many years has this game been out? How many times has this been said before?
4) OMG I'm having so much fun right now!: Keywords: right now. How many supporters or new people have already woken up and moved on pre/past lvl 30? You support a game which caters to new players which was DESIGNED to keep you oblivious to all the other shortcomings of the game until you reach the status of the rest of the players/vets who have reached lvl 30+ and seen there is nothing unless you're willing to support this farce by buying more expansions.
5) I see potential for the future with this simplified game!!: Ok my chiapet has sucked for awhile but they tell me that with the new advanced plastic chiapet model I can add pigtails and grow a mohawk OMG cool!! But wait it's still the same boring chiapet underneath so how does it do anything different?
6) The GCW/Hoth expansion is coming!: Haden Blackman: The GCW upgrade will not be an expansion. (I'm not looking through the forums for this quote SN: Shug_Ninx?) The essential concept/theme of the game is missing after 3 years?
All it is from NGE/SWG supporters is cover-ups and excuses. How long wil you pay to be SOE/LA community relations spin doctors before you get paid?
I have an old Ford Pinto in my driveway that runs 4 out of 7 days a week, has a CB radio which is tuned to this station that you can talk to cool people on, and I promise if you buy it I'll fix the tires, brakes, engine and AC (which should have worked when I sold it to you), and OMG it has this bad ass Star Wars logo and paint job!! (Please call me 2.5-3 years after purchase because my car team and I can't really tell you anything until then). Good luck, and oh yeah pay me $15 a month while you have the car at your house and I'll fix it.
Seriously if you defend this game in any state or have an active subscription, take a step back and wake up.

I have never seen it from that perspective, but you might be onto something there. I won't say that ALL supporters of the NGE are like that, some actually do enjoy the game, but I'm certain that a good portion of the supporters have it!

Amen, brother. Testify.
I shouldn't say this, but I find it rather pathetic that people still have any faith in SOE/LA's promises after all that's happened. Don't let them fool you again, people. You deserve better.

Why does it bother anyone that some may still play a game ? thats what i don't get .

I try to be respectful to the people who still play this game, but I honestly believe that a company that does what SOE has done to it's customers should not be endorsed/supported. That's why it bothers me. It's pretty much undeniable that people who still pay for this game are paying for a beta version of a game (after 2 years mind you), and that's a dangerous antic that sets an ugly precedent for the rest of the gaming industry. Also, under no circumstances a game should not be given to a certain demographic/customer base to then take it away to give it to another. And this is precisely what SOE did.
Even though I believe this points are valid facts, othee people's opinions should be respected. That's why I and others try to make them see instead of just insulting or belitteling them.

That is completly understandable , Ive been with this game from walking around dant. with no vehicle's mounts or player shuttles . Ive seen every major publish that has come in and broke the game. I was there when they screwed the Holo grinders by adding in the villa in pub 9 . I agree the way they implemented NGE in secret was underhanded . Yet i know of no other MMO that offers what SWG offers or are even close to as complex as SWg in even its dumbed down version .

So SWG is the only MMO you've played? I hate to say it, but City of Heroes -- which is stripped down to JUST combat -- is deeper and more complex than SWG now. I mean, what's "deep" about Galaxies? Every member of a class is JUST like every other member of a class. Combat is such that -- by the upper levels -- the difference between weapons is utterly meaningless. Half the stats don't DO anything.
Being a fanboi is one thing -- but Jesus, man, stick to reality. I can't think of a game with LESS depth than Galaxies now, and I've tried a dozen MMORPGs.
I have played WOW ,EQ2 , COH , Shadowbane , DAOC , Silk road , EQ , AO , EVE . NOne of these game s offer as much variety in gameplay . The only game that comes close is DAOC , Maybe i wasn't clear enough . And as for the fanboi statement , I don't even really play SWG that often ATM I've been far to busy .
When i get time to play a game i usually log into WW2OL for something to pass time by with . I regret buying most of the games i have , Being i got maybe a month gameplay out of most of them . COH was the worse i played imo but that is my taste not yours should i call you a fanboi for liking it ? DAOC and SWG are the only games that held my attention longer than a year both i still enjoy .

There are a few people that are CL90 and still having fun. They are creating their own content or pursuing goals which they feel are fun. The reality is that they have chosen to pay for what they believe still provides value to them. As long as they see some value in their investment, no arguement, no matter how well written, will dissuade them from playing. In all "reality," that is all that matters.
As far as setting a bad precident, I honestly don't think that any game company, to include SOE now, is looking at the SWG fiasco and saying, "hey SOE really got away with something here, maybe we could too."

SWG has the distinction of being nearly universally hated by the gaming community, that is unique...
Here is what i mean by variety , for one say you dont like combat you only like to socialize ? SWg offers something for you . In entertainer , say you only like to craft SWG offers something for you (though it has been dumbed down it is still the best crafting system in any mmo . Say you want to be a pilot SWG offers something for you . That is the variety i speak of , SOE though not a very ethical company know how to make an MMO, they fail in the support side i won't argue with that .
But honestly name one game that offers as much ? I am waiting to see what is done, if things shape up to my liking i will jump back in full sail. if not i will move on to something like POTBS. Or star trek OL though i detest Star trek .

While the crafting might still be the best, which in my opinion is arguable, there is no point in crafting anymore, so why would someone be a character that has no use? So in all honesty, I moved onto EVE, which I believe that offers as much, plus runs pretty smoothly, added content is free and support is great for the small company that they are (5 devs).

I am not a big flight sim fan all i like to do is PVP ,maybe every so often pve a little . One thing that SWG offers for me is knowing my opposition (with the dwindling #'s this becomes so much easier lol ) Thats why i didn't get into WOW as much or Daoc . I like the fact my enemy may be someone i grinded alot with when i was a NUB
About crafting though , Armor is still crafted and needed , Ive bought atleast 4 sets since NGE using respecs . Also structures vehicles , Food , Some weapons , Furniture and many more items . still are in demand , Crafters are still the players with highest incomes , only rivaled by Looters . Besides imo the worst thing that ever happened to crafters was Anti -decay kits .

Well I myself must say that I think SWG will be shut down soon because I was just at the local mall and asked the manager at an EB games if the starter kit was selling (they had 1 btw and I saw some JTL and Class Galaxies boxes I thought I was seeing visions from the past) and he told me that they weren't selling and that they "didn't have the demand for them as they had with SWG before."
So the rumors are confirmed now. I hope SOE knows what they did. I for one have cancelled my account and nothing short of a reimplementation of the old system will bring me back.

First off, your battered wife syndrome analogy is stupid. But as to SWG fans defending their game: Why do they do it? Love.
Just as you hate, so do they love. I hate Mcdonalds, but some people just can't get enough of it.
If you will never understand just open your mind, Quade. Ooopen your miiiiiiind.

What you call monopolizing, actual crafters (not alts or dilletants) call the natural trend of superior crafters rising to the top of a market. This is normal and positive, giving crafters the challenge that made the crafting game so very worthwhile. Those who put less work and care into making arms, armor, droids and harvestors naturally sank to the bottom of the market while those who sank more attention and care into their crafts rose to the top. Even after the CU this was true, all the way up until the effects of the NGE became apparent.
What they did wasn't even levelling the playing field between skilled players of crafters and those who just didn't give a crap what they put into what they made -- it was outright and blatantly backseating what you folks now call traders across the board. Much, much more than genericising crafted goods happened with the NGE. "Traders" are practically pointless now, regardless of how well they play the class. They finally and unabashedly shoved "traders" to the back of the galactic bus with entertainers, who had been there since before the CU. And as it stands, NEITHER "iconic profession" looks like it will survive future changes to what's left of SWG. When questioned, devs baldly stated that "traders" aren't really part of what their corporate overlords think of as the "Star Wars Experience" because they aren't running around with blasters blowing up crap and looting like their other broken, pared-down genericisied professions.
You can't blame elite crafters for the economic problems on Bloodfin or any other server. They are not and never were the problem. The economic problems stemmed from far less comfortable places, from the high prices non-crafters charged for resources and looted schematics to the impatient and often unpleasant nature of many of the consumers of crafted goods. On Bloodfin, even before the CU, a fledgeling crafter COULD compete and prosper selling good medium quality stuff for lower prices. I know this. I did it. I was no legendary crafter, but I did well in volume and I had no complaints. Most importantly, I, and the people I did business with as both a crafter and an image designer HAD FUN. I can't claim the same after the CU and I CERTAINLY refute that ANY fun was had either by me OR anyone I knew after the NGE hit. And THAT is the firsthand experience of a person who THRIVES on crafting and socializing.
As for the claim that the NGE is superior to all games for crafting... I say not. WOW, whose crafting system is irritating and limited (IMO) is better than NGE craftingwise. AO, a game well past its prime whose crafting system also fails to satisfy my needs ALSO has better crafting and social systems than NGE. Between the two of them I almost have a game I find as satisfying as I did pre CU SWG. Either one alone makes the NGE look like ass.
Combat... my least favorite part of any game... well let's say that NGE is lacking there too. I play WoW for its PvP when it comes to combat. That's the only part of WoW aside from the crafting that doesn't bore me half to death. For everything else, I play AO. I wouldn't go back to playing NGE if they paid me a weekly salary to do it. It's just that unsatisfying. Hell, UO is a better game than NGE. And that's the UO I remember with the buggy servers o lag doom and the big gaping exploits from its first year. I have never played a game I liked less than NGE. And that includes the Matrix.
All I can say is that anyone who feels the crafting game (or anything else) in NGE is fun, I envy their ability to be so easily amused. If I were that easily pleased, I might join my cat in batting at crinkly paper bits on the floor. At least that's free.

As for your statement, I don't think it's completely stupid. Generalizing and saying that EVERYONE who is paying for this game is having that syndrome is stupid! But not everyone defend the SWG out of love of it. Some would definitively would fall on the battered wife category. I clearly recall some here on these forums saying: "I've pledge my allegiance to SWG..." That does sound to me like battered wife syndrome. I also recall someone on the forums who posted that he had canceled his account, but on the day it was supposed to run out, he just couldn't get over the fact that his character would go into oblivion, even though he knew that it wouldn't get erased. So he renewed, even though he doesn't play. That certainly sounds also to me like the battered wife.
In the end, it's all about the different strokes for different folks. I believe some people genuinely love this game as it is. Others just can't seem to part with it, even though they know it's wrong. Some just would play anything Star Wars while some just can't seem to part with it. And some just want to antagonize the ones who hate the game. There's just as many reasons as different kinds of people.

I never said i had a problem with crafters and their prices . As for your opinions of NGE you are who you are , not everyone likes or dislikes the same things . i play WOW as well when i feel like playing . But as for your last paragraph , I feel it to be quite rude to comment on others idea's of fun My fiance plays Sims games in no way do i find them fun yet she does . Same goes for those who choose to craft that has never been part of my interests in gaming . But they seem to enjoy it , im sure there is something that you enjoy doing others would rather receive torture than endure .
