Thoughts on CoV-H

Right before I started writing this thread I cancelled my CoH-CoV account.  Don't get me wrong I like the game.  I liked being a Mastermind which I was as well as a Tank in CoH. My Robots kick ass.  But as much as I liked being a MM I couldn't help but get bored, its inevitable.

Once you get in the high 30's you run out of missions with nothing much to do.  It happened to me and it happens to everyone else who plays.  Also, the missions are repeatitive, its the same missions all the time.  They all end the same way and all you need to to is bypass everything else in the mission and do exactly what the mission calls for since they all end the same way.  In CoV you can get newspaper missions but they are all the same, again with the same endings in virtually the same place.

In a "kipnap" mission all you need to do is bypass everyone in there and go straight for the person you need to kipnap, kill those around him and head for the door.  In a "steal" mission, again go straight for the item in question, kill all near it and its done.  Same for a "kill a certain boss" mission.  Head for the boss which after a few missions you'll know where he is, take him out and those around him and its done too.  After a few missions you'll know where the main objectives are since its all the same.

If you're into PVP they have a few zones for it.  But I could care less for pvp myself.

I read a review of this game in a gaming site which said:  "City of Villains like CoH is a decent game, very colorful and easy to play.  The problem is it dosen't have enough content to keep players interested for  long."  They hit the nail on the head with this review, its very true.

They are suppose to expand the levels some time in the future but no one really knows when as the devs don't really write down what they're doing or planning.  You can check their forums but unlike most games they don't have: Dev Tracker or Whats in Developement forums in this game.

You can get it and you might like this game but don't expect to play it a long time as you'll eventually get bored fast.  If you get bored fast, take a pass on this game.

I have one big complaint about what you have written. The message boards do have a dev tracker. A matter of fact the game has probably the most responsive developers as any out there. Levels 40-50 will be added to CoV with the first major update possibly sometime in Feburary. This will also include a nev PvP zone.

Which will still make it a comparatively small world with not much content. Although for my money well themed and fun.

As much I as like the creative talents of the developers their community responses are pathetic. I think when this topic was broached with the lead developer he said that "players come and players go". He didn't really seem to care or show any intrest in keeping them onboard. His tactic is just to replace them with new players. (Server populations halved during my time with the game).

Adding 40-50 content would be an improvement, but what really needs adding is 50+ content. It's needed adding for a year now, and they haven't even attempted it once. So yes they may respond to the subscribers, but they don't listen to them or act to make improvements along the lines they suggest. Typically, they ask "how do you all feel about if we nerfed your charcters". The community responds "We do not want you to nerf our characters" to a man. The developers respond "OK then we suggest nerfing all these charcters, how does that sound?" the community responds "please don't nerf our characters". The developers respond, "this month we are going to nerf all your characters how do you feel about that?"

And then the players leave in droves never to return.

Waiting for updates in this game is not wise in my opinion, the content added dosn't justify the damage to you characters.

Do it, enjoy it, and get out before they update. I suggest 2 months as a good time frame for this game.

I think I know how you feel. CoH had a very good storyline filled with interesting substorylines, but it just wasn't presented very well. The thing that should be looked for in today's MMORPG's is the RolePlayability as well as the RePlayability of the game. CoH had very good roleplay available to the players in the form of customizable characters, and the gameplay was fun (at first). But the replayability of CoH is the problem; there's not much to do once you've reached level 50, gotten all the badges, and done pretty much every story arc. I started CoH in the Fall of 2004 (probably a few weeks before the Trick or Treat event), and I can't believe it, but I still play my main character even today. That's probably because I'm a diehard fan of anything that I've once loved, but having all that experience of the game, I can say that CoH won't be changing much any time soon.
