Seed in-game movies released

GroggGrogg Member UncommonPosts: 41

Runestone has released three in-game movies showing off a little bit of Seed's style.

They are very short, but are a great introduction to the world. Runestone promises more and longer clips later ... probably after beta starts.

    Why seed will suck:

    Story templates

Seed does not use pre-defined quests. Instead the unique story template system generates stories and cast actors on the fly according to the playing style and role of each character.

The other objects in each story are also adjustable. In one occurrence of a story, a scientist might try to blackmail an administrator to gain exclusive access to his hard points. In another occurrence it might be a damage controller blackmailing a scientist to make her vote for him.

A template does not have a predefined course of events. Instead it records your response and progress, and react accordingly. If your character is asked to get a NPC a mono wrapper, you are free to choose how to get it: You can craft it yourself, barter for it with another character or get it in any other way. No matter how you pull it of, the story will follow your lead.

I have never enjoyed games where devs try to speed shit up by throwing in generated quests. It doesn't compare to the handbuilt story of such games as asheron's call, which was so much better.

Doesn't really show much in the videos. There is only one character on the screen. I like the art style though, and it looks like the animations that they did show are working very well.

Is that point and click movement? Thought I noticed it in one of the elevator vids.

Well judging that a game will suck from a few lines of description of a feature is "daring", especially in this case. Also, to me that actually sounds way better than the xth repeat of the same quest(s). Other game's quests usally results in kill x npcs, or collect x stuff. Rarely is thought required, especially with the newer MMOs. In Seed it may be even nice and interesting to start a new character, since the quests may develop in other ways for a different character.

You got that backward. This is apparently an AI that takes into account how you acquired items and how you play your character and will react accordingly. Ashrons had a pre-built storyline that you just followed, no matter how you played. Seed sounds like it's quests will be very believable, which no other game has come close to. I don't even know if it's possible to make a spoiler site because of this.

Is Seed planning any PVP elements?  I like most everything else I've read about it.  Will add it to my 'games to watch' list.  But if there's no PVP I probably won't bother with it.

Theres no combat in it AT ALL. So I guess it won't appeal to you.
