lol for as much bitching as the PVP crowd has done about no games catering to them, i would of expected at least some opinions

Dark Merlin, the only thing about Darkfall that I do not like is the lack of any skill cap or skill depreciation.  This is the same reason why I did not continue to play EVE after my trial ran out.  Eventually, probably later rather than sooner, but everyone will be the same.  Can you imagine a fighter/cleric/mage/thief/blacksmith/miner/alchemist/.... and so on and so on.  In EVE, you can train all skills up to the maximum.  Yes, it will take a long time, but what's the point of me doing it when I'm sure someone else already has.  Ok, so now you have an ace battlecruiser pilot that decides he wants to go mine today.  He jumps in his mining barge, and low and behold, he's an ace at this too.  Does that make sense to you?  Now, imagine in Darkfall, there is a fighter who gets killed and loses his armor.  Never fear, he is also a miner/blacksmith/tinker so he grabs a mining pick and now he has a fresh suit of platemail.  Does that make sense to you?  It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to me.  Also, it takes away from the economy as the people who enjoy crafting can no longer make as much money.  Granted, the blacksmith can probably make better armor, but why should I pay top dollar for new armor when I can run to town and make myself a suit of armor for free that is probably 95% as effective.

I read the interview and have also been following the game loosely. I'm not your gung ho pvp nor do I consider myself a gung ho pve. I am what you called someone who likes to feel like they are part of the world. If pvp is introduced properly in the game I will love it, pve is the same way.

From what I've seen in this game so far, pvp will be rewarding and pve will be treated just as equally. The skill-based system is the way to go. I would like to learn more about that though. I'm not a fan of the firs-person view for casters, but I could live with that. Player ran economy, player ran cities, and more. I am looking forward to this game.

On the con side though, you can tell the game has been in the works for years by looking at the graphics. They aren't bad, but they aren't the best either. They are saying that graphics will look better at later stages so I will safe anymore critisism on that matter till later. The game sounds like it will draw you in like you are actually there living the life, the downside is only people with tons of time on their hand will benefit the most from it, while the more casual will suffer. This doesn't bother me. but it might bother the more competitive.

Overall, I can't wait till this game is released. Be warned though, other seemingly great games turned out to be crap when released. I would just suggest to everyone not to preorder and not to get your hopes up, but don't lay down doomsaying or any negativity till it's released either.

darkfall will have a soft cap-you can raise it for 5 years but if you stop using it it depreciates (also raises very slowly in the upper levels, like i said years) The more skills you pick up the harder to raise them (for crafting you must craft, while to raise sword you must hit things) Therefore technically you COULD raise all 500 skills in the game, but it would take a decade or two in rl.

so if one person wants to pick up another skill he can do that, but it would take a long time for him to be able to use it proficiently

a template like bow, unarmed combat and fletching would be more efficient than a template like bow, unarmed, sword, fletching and armor making. Like i said 500 skills there is bound to be a great diversity in crafting. I dont think macros will work in DF as well as in other games, because of open pvp and the necessity to aim your mouse whenever you do something.

    hope that helps alittle

It will take literally years to cap everything out I'm sure of it. The majority of MMO population has been proven to be made up of 1month-1year players. I imagine only 20% or so will be with the game the entire 10 or so years the game might live for. I think it will take approximately 7 years to develop all skills to max if it is anything like EVE. I believe this is realistic too. I know you don't, but think about it. If it were possible to do all these things in real life, wouldn't you think you could learn all of this to the greatest extent in your long lifetime. I know you could just as others could if they set their mind to it. So this is very realistic. It really depends on how long it takes to max these skills out. As I said, I am sure it will take around 7 or so years to do this. So there is nothing to worry about. Keep in mind there are people that only like to craft, or cast, or melee, or thief so keep this in mind.

I understand both of your points, but I guess I'm just starting to get skeptical because of the length of time I have been waiting for this game.  Do you guys know anything about stat or ability points because I have not seen much about them?

ok some quotes (old but most should be in game)

Stats, skills and spells in Darkfall raise when being used. So if you use your sword all day to kill monsters, chances are your sword skill will raise. Sword is related to STR and DEX, so there is a small chance that these stats may raise too. If you go around shooting monsters or players with the spell Fireball, chances are that you get better at casting the Fireball spell. Improving a spell may give you stuff like doing more damage, improved duration, improved range, etc. Most wizard spells are related to INT, so casting wizard spells may improve your INT. Clerical spells are related to WIS. All skills and spells can be raised from 1 to 100.

Darkfall has deep rivers and oceans you can swim in, complete with underwater dungeons and cities. Spells and skills such as Swimming, Diving, Water Breathing, Polymorph (into a fish), Free Action, etc will help you on your underwater adventures. We have considered making an underwater player race, but that is not decided yet.

Well actually we do have an attribute named "Noisiness" in the game. It is an attribute much like STR, DEX, HP, MANA etc. So you figure out who is the most noisy.

Like i said, no one knows exactly if all or only some of these things are in the game, but they were tweaking them at one time.

Great, but is there a Stat Cap at least?  I mean there has to be something to limit the potential of the characters, otherwise new players will stand no chance of survival in an open pvp game.

im not going to look for quotes but there are there on df warcry

they basically said 4 newbies can kill a veteran player if the veteran is not that skilled, so i would imagine with a few weeks of playing and some good equipment anyone has a chance. Its all FPS inspired so not as much carachter attributes as good strategy and a little twich, this goes for combat only. crafting, horse riding, war ships are things they have not talked about being twich, more the toon attributes.
