You're going to get alot of mixed reviews on your question. Some people are avid fans of the game, and others have left it with a rather bitter taste in their mouth. There are some good things about the game. They have a robust character creation, so you should look quite different if you choose. The crafting system is pretty good. There are alot of crafting professions and alot to do if you have the wish. There are player run cities with player owned buildings and houses. There is a good selection of professions with some unique roles and abilities.
On the downside, alot of people are disappointed in the combat upgrade they enacted several months back. The combat system was re-vamped in an effort to balance the game, but in many people's opinion, it was a bad move. The system seems to make levelling difficult among other problems. Read up on the CU threads for more info.
There's also the NGE. I'm not that familiar with this as I left the game shortly after the CU, but from what I understand, they made Jedi a starting profession among other changes. Someone else can fill you in or you can search for other threads on the NGE for more info. But most players seem to be leaving the game, so it may not be worth buying. But you can always take the free trial to see what things are like and how you like it.
Originally posted by xephedrine I saw this game at the store yesterday. I was wondering if its any good? Whats there to do? is three high pop, good pvp, sweet quests and items, good tradeskill system? I don't really like the idea of star wars lol but if its good and stuff i might give it a whirl
Try the free trial, chances are you'll love it. New players love it, veterans hate what they did to it.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me. I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too. 09f911029d74e35bd84156c5635688c0
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this game. Even if you like the free trial, the game is going under very soon. No reason to waste your time or money.

Define "very soon". "Very soon" keeps changing everytime a predicted date is reached.
Well from a different perspective, I started the game after Christmas and played for close to a month. There were a few good things about the game but the negatives outweigh the good. If you know anything about Dark and Light (with their horrible server stability problems)...I am actually having more fun in that game.
The beginning of swg is pretty good after you create a new character but it seems to go downhill from there. The leveling takes a long time and it seemed to me that it was the worst grind-fest I had ever been in. People said that EQ1 was a grindfest but I found swg after this upgrade to be worse. In the end I was almost making myself log in just to try and level. It becomes boring real quick.
I was on the Ahazi server and it was always very sparsley populated. I thought I was playing a single player game. If you get the game I have heard that the Bria server actually has some players on it. I also read somewhere (maybe on these forums) that the future of the game could be in question next month when a license re-newal comes up for Sony. Take that with a grain of salt but then again be wary if you give them money.....
Honestly only you could decide this , know one here knows what you like don't let anyone tell you what exactly that is . The best advice i can offer you is give it a month or 2 see what shape the game is in. As many have said on this forum know one really knows the fate for SWG , Don't listen to anyone who thinks they do . Its in better shape than alot of the older games out there . Yet it is in need of a merge of servers . The graphics are still great probably better than any game its age . It still offers alot more than any game iv'e played . Though less than it did in its early days .
So sit tight on this question , Don't let the negative nancy's Ruin the thought for you . You never know it could be your favorite game you ever played or it could be the one you hated the most . But know one can decide that but you .

Biggest problem I see with SWG at the moment is that even if you do like the NGE, there's no guarantee that it'll be like that tomorrow given the track record of the devs. They may shut down the game entirely or revamp it yet again when they figure out that the NGE didn't bring in the number of new players that they were hoping for.
