diablo questions...

some people refer guild wars as "diablo III" but what do the mean by that? ... also, in online play, do you just wait in a lobby, group up, then go out?

(i basically just want to know how online works for diablo I and II)

thanks!

It's been a while since I played Diablo, so what I'm going to say is based on a fuzzy memory. Basically Diablo's online was a coop solo game where you could complete the games story-driven missions.

As far as Guild Wars and Diablo go, yes I can see a comparison slightly, but Guild Wars offers a lot more after the missions than Diablo did.

    Hope that helps.

There is no Diablo 3. As for another mmorpg being soo much like Diablo that it's like a "Diablo 3" that would be the one and only Dungeon Siege.  DS is litterally a 3-D, modernn version of Diablo II.

also, in online play, do you just wait in a lobby, group up, then go out?

There are many who say GW is simular to Dialbo I, and Diablo II. This seems very much the case.

The Diablo games have an offline stand alone mode. Then an online mode. Then still another online mode that is all HARDCORE. You die 1 time, and that is it!

In online you first login to BattleNet. Which is one huge online chatroom. On the right side of the screen are names of the different servers you can join. Or you can create your own one. Each server holds a maximum of 8 players. Each server vanishes after the last player playing on it logs off. (Technically 5 minutes after the last player on it logs off.... if at least 1 player has been playing on it for more than 5 mins. If one has been playing on it for less than 5 mins, then it will instantly vanish as soon as the last player leaves.)

When you logoff the server aka leave the game, you go back into the online chatroom. Then rinse and repeate.

One of the definitions of a mmorpg, is an online game that has a permenate game world. You log off, and the gameworld still remains and continues. The permenate game world never vanishes, even if every single player were to logout.

    ---------

Many say Guild Wars over does instancing too much. There is not enough of a permenate gameworld. This is why they say it is very simular to the Diablo games, and not really a "real mmorpg.".

Check out the Diablo screenshots in my sig to see how Diablo II looks like. I also have Screenshots of Dungeon Siege. image

From what Ive heard, GW is like this:

You enter a town where you make a group to go adventure (+/- like the bNet lobby)
You enter a zone with your group (a diablo game)

The difference I can find is that in Diablo you have a storyline and you can create a game for others to join, to PvP or trade... in GW you do that in Town, and its an MMORPG, so it can't really have a storyline.

And please, PLEASE, don't refer Dungeon Siege as a game similar to Diablo... Please, that is an offence.... DS has nothing to do with diablo, putting aside the fact they are both hack'nSlash rpgs... In diablo you control 1 hero, while in DS you control one party, in Diablo you have skill trees, classes... in DS you have nothing like it... its 2 different games, I just cant see where some people see the similarities

GW was developed by several members of team that that made Diablo and Diablo II . That is what made GW prerelease hype. Other than that GW bares almost no similarities to Diablo whatsoever.
