it was never the feb...if you read their forums, all they EVER did say was 1st quarter...MMorpg.com pulled rest of it out of their arses.
The delay is because they switched to completely different 3d engine.
I really wonder where mmorpg.com takes that 4/1 as I can't find anything else than "sometime in 2nd quarter" from their website, forums or anything.
I know developers from few games that has openly said that they'd love if they could stop calling mmorpg.com to stop them for doing them disservice by guessing dates.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
I also wondered where that date came from.
The Chronicle still doesn't have a proper website up yet.
In any case, it says ETA which means estimated time of arrival. In other words they are guessing so nobody should not be taking these dates as facts.
all due respect, no they didn't pull that date out of their arse.
when the chronicle beta was delated(the time in november, i know its getting hard to keep track) they(rapid o.O reality) said it was being postponed to jan/feb. thats 100% true, now they never said 2/1 , that is correct but them taking 2/1 from the stated jan/feb is not exacly pulling it out of their arse
it's been said so many times in this post but RR never gave an exact date. to say the game was delayed because a date on mmorpg (who have absolutely nothing to do with RR) was missed is ludricous.
to the poster above me: RR have never set any date down as THE date. what they have done is give the community rough estimates on when the game will progress to certain stages of it's development.
change of engine pushed back the date last year. they didn't say "you will have a released game by january/february". they said, all things going to plan, we MAY have a game by then. obviously it's taken them longer than anticipated to port everything across and some other things i can't tell you because of the NDA (i'm assuming you're a pre-orderer anyway so you should know other reasons).
and now RR are so paranoid and nervous about giving estimates that they won't tell us sod all because idiots jump on any scrap of information and set it in stone when the team are just trying to be as friendly and open as they can be - people are closing them up. it's a game folks, get a grip.
eh, well just because its the cool thing for companys to do now doesnt mean we have to like it.
but seriously im tired of the excuse 'well this company did it, and that game did it'
i bought the preorder in friggin september with promise of 2 games to be released by the fall(last fall, and thats released as in live) yeah i know they offerend refunds but 20 bucks isnt worth the effort.
and i dont mean to bash the game but if your MAIN selling point is pumping out games and pumping them out fast, and your first one is going to be like a year late..time to change your selling point.
boo
you seem to miss the point...first i know i am not nor think anyone else is holding chronical to mmorg.com's release date we are holding the to the project managers statemnet: "The Chronicle Beta till late January or early February, with a targeted launch date of the beginning of March." However, rapid reality promoted themselves as something new, with a new way of developing games while, dismissing the current working game developers for continuing delays in their development. all i said and am saying is that pushing back the "estimated" release of the game three times doesn't do much to show anyone they are different then any other company.
you can quibble about why they missed those dates, but the simple truth is that their preassumptions about game development wasn't realistic.
