Help, I think I messed up my Animist

reavoreavo Member Posts: 2,173

I think my animist is messed up. I hope it's not too late to salvage the poor guy. Could someone please tell me if I'm headed in the wrong direction? Here's what I have so far. I'm level 46.5.

Creeping Path = 46
Arborial Path = 16

Should I start putting some points in something else? Should I go all the way to 50 in Creeping?

One other question I have is about the Wild Minion realm skill. Does that work on all my turrets, or just my controlled pet?

I am not an expert on animists, but creeping is generally regarded as the weakest spec of an animist.  You debuff and you have an AoE root.  That is about it.  People usually will go one of the other specs.  You will get the most damage out of specing Arb.

It amazes me you made it that high by going creeping.  I would not worry about it.  You can buy a single line respec.  I think the command is /respec buy.  I can't remember off hand.  Or you can always earn a respec stone in game as well and not pay for it.

I've just been doing the Catacombs quests. Guess I'll respec when I get the chance then. I'm not sure how a debuff turret would help me out anyways except in PvE. If I plant that out in the Frontier I think Mids/Albs will just eat it on a salad after they kill me.

    /respec buy to the rescue!

    but you'll also get a free respec at levels 5, 20, 40 and 50 (/respec to use).

Also you can play around with this tool to see what spec you'd like to go with most:

Since when do we get a respec at 50? Maybe it has always been there and I never noticed.

We get a free respec to 50 too? I've never noticed that either. Is this on all the servers including Gareth the classic server? Kunou can you verify?

Hmmmm... I had one on my blademaster that i used.... Maybe I'm wrong and was it a respec gotten from a patch in the past or something.

Well, since obviously Creeping Path was the wrong choice, can I ask a dumb question? Why would somebody pick Creeping Path? Truth be told, I picked it because everyone was telling me to pick Arborial and I felt it was my duty to be different. I got kind of a rebellious side to me. ::::02::

Honestly, there is no reason. Creeping only has two functions - crowd control and debuffs. The crowd control is via a bomber. This slows down the CC. CC from other classes is far more efficient.

This leaves Debuffs. Now the debuffs are nice, they have little use. The turrets only last 2 minutes. Further you need to be within its range. The bomber for it only lasts 20 secs for effect.

So the only reason I can think of why anyone would bother with creeping is if they were meant to fill the role of a group. You put down the damage debuff shrooms and then tanks will take less damage. Animist pets will take less damage. Your controllable pet is decent in that it has a DD and a snare.

So I can think of some nice benefits of this. You have 3 animists, one of each type. The debuffs help keep the controllable pets up longer. You use your pet to try and control agro. You can also put down the FF damage turrets that all animists get.

The reason why people do not go Creeping is that there is nothing there that will give you a real advantage in PvE or RvR as the line works now. If you go Arb you can snare using a tangeler and your pet does a lot more damage. Further, since unless you are doing keep defense, most of the time you will not be using shrooms. Arb has some nice bombers including an AoE DD.

I bought a respec and went Arborial. I haven't gotten to 50 yet, I'm 49 right now. But I don't think I like it as much as Creeping for PvE. I have died a lot more.

I can't count on the tanglers to slow whatever aggros on me. I used to be able to put my controllable pet on my aggro to slow it down while I ran screaming.

We'll see how it goes when I hit 50 and get to do some RvR though. I'm still open minded about the Arborial path out there.
