I guess it's a matter of taste and what you're looking for in a game. I tried to force myself to playing but still couldn't. Too bad, the three factions that fight each other, each with its own distinctive culture, was a nice idea. But the gameplay is quite limited and the PvE content restricted to "kill X mobs, ding, kill X more mobs, ding" and so on. Its PvP might be fun I guess, but I would say there's probably better titles out there.
Currently playing: * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant. * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.
The tutorial is just plain awful. I don't remember the last time I was THIS annoyed at a tutorial.
And what about remapping your keys to something you're comfortable with? That would be nice. I think I've hit every button that I could find trying to figure out how to do this and came to the conclusion that you can't. The tutorial didn't say anything about not being able to remap but by golly I know how to turn the sound up down now.
All that being said I am having fun with this game right now. I'm not sure though I want to pay to play it. I'm not sure I would advise any of my friends to play it. Honestly, I don't want to be stuck in a dead end game and I have a feeling that this what RFO would be for me. I mean it's fun until you reach the end of the road and then everyone just stands around and asks "Now what?" Your choice is to pitch a tent and wait for the expansion pack or make a u turn and roll an alt. But an alt will just lead you down the same path.
It's not a terrible game. Just proceed with caution.
I was one of this game's biggest supporters prior to actually playing it. But as soon as the Tutorial started, it took all my strength not to yell "WHAT KIND OF CHICKENSHIT OPERATION IS THIS?!?" It was pathetic, but I played on for a week. After that, I absolutely gave up. This game has NO content. It's all hack and slash with no real skill involved. It's all about how long you've played the game. Think of it as Diablo 2 without the fun. I've played text adventures more fun than RF. Hell, Progress Quest is more entertaining than RF, and if you don't know what that is, Google search it, download it, and "play" it. It'll keep you entertained for hours.
The only two MMOs that really have anything to offer that will be out soon are Vanguard and Darkfall, and that's only IF they can live up to their hype. Judging from my experience with RF, I know to wait for the reviews before I ever drop cash again.
And for all of you who keep saying that only a vocal minority really don't like the game, know this: YOU are the minority. The vast majority of people who dislike it just update they're hype to reflect RF's shittiness and never darken this forum's doors again.

You'll never have taken part in a ChipWar. You'll never know what it's like to be hopelessly outnumbered in a CW and still come out on top. You'll never know what it's like to hear a Race Leader rally the troops. You'll never know what its' like to be pinned between two armies fighting for your life. You'll never have had any fun in small skirmish battles in Sette, or Cauldron. You'll never know what its' like to claw your way to the top of your faction, and have your name recognized by your entire faction.
You don't like the game after playing 10 minutes? An hour? That's fine. No game appeals to everyone. Just very disappointed to hear comments by a few people. That have done nothing in game. Yet think they know what the whole game is about. Well have fun in what ever game you decide to move onto.

Ok, this game is not for everyone. I think it is a great game and so do many other ppl, the thing is that the supporters of RFO are to busy playing "a borefest" to comment on any of this shit. The reason i am here is to give positice comments about it because i like it ALOT. I mean sure, the world is sort of boring and there is a huge grind but the grind is fun and the PvP is pretty hardcore. Ppl who have not played yet take into consideration that this game is not for everyone. read up on it. Sure at least 500 ppl or so quit but they were from mmos like WoW and u no games like that.
It really sounds like this game sucks a fat one. I installed it and I am currently looking for a CD-Key (FilePlanet download), but I'm not so sure I should be looking anymore. Guild Wars was never a mmorpg , its Diablo 3D. It's a *LIMITED* Multiplayer RPG, designed for new gamers. Not only are they new gamers but they define "casual" gamers and are also "new" to the genre of RPGs.
