Buying Epic today...????

Im still on the fence with this game.  Could someone convice me whether I should shell out the dough for this game?  I know there is a free trial, but I'm not into trials.

Anyway I am an experienced FFXI player more than anything, and I enjoy EVE because its a gamce I can play and do other things at the same time.  I need a good fantasy game though.  FFXI has aggrovated me with grind and putting up with finding parties etc.  EQ2 just seems too WoWish, extremely simple, and has too many useless spells cluttering up my desktop.  I like to work for something good, and be able to use it, not get an abundance of spells I will rarely use.

This game (DAOC) seems to have some of the most loyal players out there so it has to be good, but I have concerns about guilds because in past games a "guild/linkshell" would set a time they would do something, and if you weren't available you were SOL and had to wait to do what you wanted to do whether it be a quest, mission or whatever.  I am tired of games that make you completely rely on other people to get anywhere!  No that I think groups and guilds are bad, but sometimes I like to log on and do my own thing for a little while, then log off (ie EVE).  Not have to spend an hour waiting on everybody to gather together, go on a mission, someone dies so that takes up more time, before you know it several hours have passed and you have to be at work in 5 hours.

I also enjoy a variety of ways to level up.  In FFXI for example, you were basically fighting the same 3 or 4 mobs throughout most of the game while you were leveling.

I will also need someone to kind of show me the ropes because every one of these MMO's are different.   I hear that people are helpful in DAOC, but to what extent?  Usually when I start playing a game I have TONS of questions, and people get tired of answering them.  Plus I've read that this game has a sub-par manual.

I also like a mature, friendly, but not overly serious community.  I hate people who hate on noobs.  I also hate people who like to have "pissing contests" about who knows more or who has played longer.  And I hate when people are so into the game it takes over their lives.

So what I need is some help deciding here.  Is this game for me?

Well I just went to DAoC for a few reasons, first off let me say I played EVE for almost 2 years solid. Sure I had to take breaks in bewteen mishs. I got tired of EVE, great game but long story why I'm leaving.....................anyway. I Pref the DAoC over most, The community is more mature. Not to say that  dont have the Standard Annoying Gamer, but there are fewer of them. I think you'll find thats because the game has been around for a while, so to most of the younger crowd the game doesnt has graphic appeal that the others do. My one issue when looking for a new game now is active players in guild chat, sounds funny to some but after playing EVE for 2 years finding the right corp or guild makes the game. So in short the graphics are not the best, there are other games that would crush this one graphic wise......... but the community is better then most games I have seen

I'll give this one a shot...first let me say that I've played DAoC for about a month, WoW for year before that.

This game squashes WoW like a bug...more realistic (I think graphics are actually quite good), and 44 classes across 3 realms. You can basically have your choice of gameplay...

    PvP servers
    PvE server
    Co-op server
Classic servers - for those who didn't like the TOA expansion and want all new toons to start at level 1.
    Normal servers - self-explanitory
Roleplay servers - Most mature community...more casual players that still like to step-out of the RW once in a while and have some fun (you can tell this is my favorite)

My point is, this game can be what you want it...I've seen players across the spectrum of mankind out here (good and bad)...and I think it would be almost impossible to not find players that like to play your style of online gaming in DAoC.

    BUY THE GAME!

If you ever happen onto the RP cluster of servers (Guinevere, Percival, or Nimue (mine)) and play a Midgardian...give me shout out...happy hunting!

Thorsdaal - lvl 20 Norse Thane

    The worst customer support EVER.
I have asked them few questions about a MONTH ago - and they have NOT replied. Not a single word.
I am experienced player - I have my characters in EQ2, WoW, AO, SWG, EvE, CoH and DAoC games. All but last - are at FULL accounts (some are postponed some are active). I was ABOUT to buy DAoC in January 2006th but ... Mythic just do not care if they sell another copy of the game or not. The community in the game is not everything if the company that get our money just - do not care. They act like - "pay us up and then .... begone".
The game is dying. The best pvp and the widest range of possibilities of self developement - will not help it to survive.

If You are decided to play - I reccomend Midgaard - the best atmosphere. A community is maybe not as good as in EvE - but ppl there are mostly mature and ready to help a newcomer.
A graphic - is nice and more detailed than some other games on the market.
They could work a bit over a music themes ;-)

I trully wish DAoC to grow into the prosperous game as it has a potential.

one more - do not try to play European version ...

Wow, don't know exactly where you're coming from with this... I think perhaps you sent your questions to the wrong area or something. If you used the Feedback Form on the Herald then no, chances are, you won't be getting answers. That form is for players to provide us with feedback, ideas, suggestions, etc. It is not intended as a two way means of communication. I read those forms, we get several hundred of them on a regular day. More intense days like patch days and such can double or triple the regular amount.

I'm sure many others will be chiming in here soon about the customer support. I have very rarely if ever heard negative things about the CS in DAoC, either before I started working here and was still just a regular player or after. People post all the time stating QUITE the opposite, talking about great CS encounters, problems being solved quickly and efficently, etc...

Hmm odd... I've had to call client support 3 times. Never had to wait on hold for more than 2 minutes (seriously).  Never had a problem getting my questions answered quickly and professionally.  Even when I had to use my secret word to reclaim my account from the ether that is 'forgotten password' (what can I say, I hadn't played the game in over 2 yrs at the time) it took no more than 30 seconds for them to have me up and running again.

I have used all possible electronic ways of communication to ask my questions. I got NO REPLY. AT ALL.
Just an auto-reply "Thank you for contacting Dark Age of Camelot Support. " ....

"A ticket has been opened for you in our CS database: .........."

so .... if it says 72 hrs - it should be 72 hrs - not 720 days or something like that.
I do not belive Your words that You got "super express" response from CS of DAoC. I belive my own eyes.

    That is a fact.

  • RJCoxRJCox Member Posts: 2,686

The ONLY thing I can think of that you could possibly be referring to would be the ingame bug reporting system, which no, you don't get a response to other than the "Thank you for reporting..." auto-email. But that also has nothing to do with CS, those go directly to PQ (Product Quality team, known as QA in most places). All reported bugs go into a Tracker. They take the bug reports from the tracker in order based on severity, try to reproduce and verify the bug, and if it is indeed a bug fix it. Given the large number of bugs reported they aren't replied to because the time taken to reply to each report (there are currently 1000+ reports in the tracker) is MUCH MUCH better spent fixing said bugs in my (and about anyone else I've talked to) opinion.

I had an email response to my question about user interface within 24 hours.  I have no complaints here.

it was not a bug report.
"Thank you for contacting Dark Age of Camelot Support. Your email has been received and
you should expect a response from the Technical Team within 72 hours."

It says clearly -> 72 hours.

Today is 15th of Feb and it is nearly a month since my last mail to DAoC CS.

How should i feel? Other customers get their response within a day or two - and I am waiting over a month?

Well obviously you should feel like we have some personal grudge against you and are singling you out solely for bad service... Or maybe that the email got lost enroute or something, not like its all that far fetched. Of the 2 options above, one is definitely far fetched, the other, not so much so. However if you would like resolution on your issue rather than just complaining if you want to email me at rduffek AT mythicentertainment DOT com I'd be more than happy to look into your account history and see what happened to the Support Ticket.

    Question:

On the official site there is a customer support web page.  Did you send email to customer support or call them?  The in-game petition system can be very slow on a busy day.  Also, if you log out before they can reach you you WONT get an answer and you will just freeze in the queue and others will move ahead of you while you're offline.  If you log a petition on a really busy day yeah, it can take a while to get an answer.   They only have so many CSR's ya know.  But customer service isn't just the petition system..  If you'd bothered to log out and asked your question here on the boards Kunou would probably have answered you within an hour, or at least pointed you in the right direction, or one of the vets here would have helped you.  Or you could have called, using that funny thing on your counter called a phone, customer support or emailed them.  Again, you would have had a response in very short order.  But no, you used the petition system and ONLY the petition system.  Which I just explained is built on a queue system and can sometimes take several hours to get an answer.  Kicker is: If you aren't ON when they get to your question others will move ahead of you.  Next time you log in you can 'refresh' your petition but it moves to the end of the CURRENT queue.

I never petition in an online game.  It's MUCH faster to just check a website, post on an active message board or call customer service with "questions".  Now, if you're STUCK *in the game* and cannot proceed for some reason, that's another story and they get to you fairly quickly.

Ever heard about people OUTSIDE America?? Yes there IS a life outside. Do You know HOW MUCH does it cost to make an INTERNATIONAL call??
Can't You just read my posts? Can't You make use of TWO things in Your head - called EYES?? There is clearly stated that the Mythic CS has been contacted by - ALL POSSIBLE ELECTRONIC ways of communication (E-MAIL, Web-form, in-game system etc etc)
I don't understand - there are plenty of other game companies who got no problem at all answering a simple e-mail and I have a problem with just one - Mythic, then I put my input here and I am being insulted by You.

If a company places its e-mail adress for a Customer Support - a normal person considers it as a way of contacting that company.

  • RJCoxRJCox Member Posts: 2,686

The only person who I see here who seems to have a problem is you... YOU have someone works for Mythic RIGHT HERE answering your posts, trying to help you, and all you do is fuss and whine and insult people. I'm using my eyes, and all I'm seeing is someone who would rather troll and complain than actually have their problem resolved...

And this is an official and usual way of "handling problems" in Mythic - to insult customers???
    ::::04::
    heh....
If You were working in my country - after such reply - You would get fired....

I had met a person like You "in game" who was a member of a "starter guild" and was insulting all newcomers who had chosen a Bonedancer or Warlock as their first character. Lucky there was an /ignore command. Lucky for me - here is also such button - UN-subscribe to this topic.

Thanks to You - Mythic has lost few more customers.

Exactly how am I being insulting? I have only said the truth... I have repeatedly offered to look into your problem for you, yet you keep ignoring those offers only to yell and scream about how horrible Mythic's CS is and how nothing ever gets answered... Which leads me to believe, as I stated above, that you do not WANT to be helped, you do not want to have your problem resolved, you only want to troll and complain. Probably a good thing I don't work in your country then since apparently people get fired for just trying to do their jobs...

Well unless you have multiple personalities, Mythic only lost one customer...YOU.  I guess Richard "Kunou" giving you his email address and offering to look into your problem is bad customer service too?  He has been nothing but polite to you.  As far as his last post goes, I can't blame him.  He is getting tired of your stupid a*s attitude.  Being that you are nothing but a troll, Camelot just became a better place without you.  Good riddance loser.  Someone needs to come out with a mmorpg for little whiny babies like you.  Maybe something like STFU Online or something like that.  Now that would be the perfect game for you.
  • RedRabRedRab Member UncommonPosts: 280

We're better off without him with that attitude. There's nothing wrong with Mythic CS for those of us not in the US. I live in the UK but have always played US servers since launch. I've never had a single problem with Mythic CS. I contact them by email if necessary and always receive a reply within 72 hours. Mythic must have some of the best CSRs in the industry, if not THE best. PlayNC are usually good too. SOE, well you might as well write a note in crayon, ram it in a bottle and throw it in the sea. ::::39::
