SWG Death Predictions

Ok, make your predictions on how it will end.

I think it will last till May. Then itll be either a server merge and survive another 6 months or a total shutdown.

Any second now.   I think there will be an announcement this month.   Shutdown, with possible reopenning later in a past form.

i dont think theyd shut it down and then reopen in the past form. If they were going to do that they would keep the current version live aswell as to not end the subscription fees which keep the whole thing running. If it shuts down it wont be reopening.

I bet they have looked into a rollback server, they arnt stupid and probably realise with the amount of people asking for it they could make money from it. More likely it is the time/cost and difficulty involved in updating the pre nge versions with the new expansions and bug fixes and also the problem with migrating existing users onto the pre-nge system unless of course they made everyone start from scratch.

I think it will shut down with a possible of rollback. Also believe that it would be in there best interest to have multiple pre-CU servers and just leaving it where you would have to start from scratch. We can only hope and wait.

I think they'll shut it down completely.

It will linger on until SWG II comes out or longer. It may well be the litterbox (not sandbox) for SOE for free gaming with advertising or whatever they desire to inflict upon its playerbase. If its free - no one can complain.  :D

My hope is a complete server wipe followed by Pre-CU servers.

I expect however the game will soon just shut down. The delayed letter from publisher and total lack of communication from SOE tells me something big is coming. Now that its been confirmed that SWG is down to roughly 35-40k players and falling, Im guessing its the cancellation notice

YODA: Masking the future, is this disturbance in the SWG.

MACE WINDU: The propecy is coming true, the subscriptions numbers are dropping.

YODA: And only those who have turned to SOE can sense the possibilities of the future. Only going through the SOE can we see.

MACE WINDU: It's been 2 1/2 years, and the Devs still have not shown themselves. Do you think they are behind this?

YODA:...Out there, they are. A certainty that is.

MACE WINDU: Do you think Smedley will be able to bring balance to SWG?

YODA: Only if he chooses to follow his destiny.

I say it's dead within 6 months. No rollbacks, no apologies. Then they focus on ruining EQ2.

Just read about a rumor that Lucas Arts is coming out with a sequel to Lego Star Wars. You don't think... no, has to be just a coincidence.

    Shutdown by,

    End of spring? Possible.

    End of summer? Probable.

End of this year? As certain as the sunrise.

They really, really don't want to roll it back. I think they would settle for keeping it alive ala MxO
as a nice draw for the Station Pass. But I can't imagine why LA would buy into that scenario.

I say they continue to stall.

They'll release Pub 27 by the end of February ... make BIG promises about Pub 28 while delaying it
for another 3.5 months ... and hope that summer vacation keeps things afloat long enough for them
to think of some scheme to 'unscrew the pooch'.

LOL. Hmm, isn't EQ2 already a dull, lifeless game? In all seriousness, though, if AC is still around with its meager subscription base, then SWG will be around for awhile. Now, will people start dropping like flies once they realize it won't change? I dunno. I don't see how people enjoy SWG, but then again I don't see how people enjoy WoW or EQ2, either.

Dont forget SOE has to pay a License fee to Lucas and its not cheap. Its been reported on blogs from SOE dev that its 10 million a year. With SWG down to 30-40k players, they're losing money bigtime. Games like AC can run forever on minimal support and content but not SWG.

Hopefully it will die really soon and go back to pre-cu. I miss playing it. I have been gone a while and tried the NGE trial period. Wow is all I can say. How someone messed up this game so bad is almost unreal.

I think it can survive if:
    a) they do a server merge
    b) they actually do port the game for a console (PS3 perhaps?)

    Currently playing:
    * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

Unless these people are very high up in SOE, I doubt they have any truth behind them.  This peice of information isn't something that is just going to be handed out to anyone within the company.

Has it ever officially been said that SOE pays LA a licensing fee?  Is it not at all possible that LA sought out SOE to design SWG to LAs specifications?  If the latter is the case, why would SOE have to pay a licensing fee?

After seeing that server population snapshot from Friday I don't see much hope. The game must be down to 50-60K subs at most by now, down from over 250K at the time of the CU.

Sony and LEC are greedy corporations. No way will they long stand to lose money like this. My guess is they barf out one more expansion (by May), and if that doesn't bring the subs back up, the game closes before the end of the year.

By then there should be several pre-CU private servers going...

If it's a licensing fee or not is besides the point.  SOE has to be sharing some of the profit (or lack thereof) with LA from SWG.  A situation that does not happen with their other games like AC and EQ2.

The exception to this would be MxO...  But the inner workings of that deal elude me.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

It is widely known LA shopped this MMO around the block for a licensing fee.  That is besides the point.  What insentive would SOE have under this crazy idea of yours to operate and develop the game be?

LA frequently shops its license and ideas for a game to other companies for a license fee.  I agree the terms of which probably are vastly different.  I don't pretend to know what the arrangement is but I would expect that they get a flat fee for star wars ip such as using the likeness of darth vader maybe something like 1 million or something and then they probably get a percentage of gross sales and gross subscription dollars on the game.

That is the probable contract.  No way is it a flat 10 million no matter what.  That is a mobster contract from goodfella's.

I really hope you're right, if there is no chance of a rollback/return to that stage. I would love to play the SWG I signed up for again, it still saddens me to see what they have done to that game.
