I didn't get time to play much this weekend however I am on a pre-order beta I was given by a friend at a gamestop so I have til release probably to continue to get the feel of it. I will post more later today when I have a chance to sit down and throw out a well though post of first impressions.

Alright, now do bear in mind that every post-game poll I have voted no higher then a 5 on thus far. However I started at a 2 and have gone up to a max of 5 so far.
My initial feelings of the game after I got in was it felt cheesy in comparison to the feel I got from the art and imagery on the web about the game. The graphics are abit abstract too me and the game is abit "corny" for lack of a better term.
I have had fun playing it so far, however if you 86'ed the car and just played a normal toon it would feel no different then most other mediocre MMO's too me thus far. Now that determination is just from mild gameplay and doing a few missions and nothing more. I do not know how to mod my car yet, I don't know how to work most of the combat elements and the sound doesn't work properly with my laptop's audio. It hangs the first time I fire at something and I have to turn off sound and then turn it back on to stop it. And from that point forward I only hear part of the gun audio when in combat.
Combat in the game is a real pain in the ass as a beginner. I haven't figured out if there is hot keys to make ALITTLE easier or what but targetting and trying to use the car are a real pain in the ass. Most of what I have fought so far was not on a road or anythng like that. I have fought a few other cards but mostly mobs on feet and critters. That makes combat miserable, in all honestly from everything I have experienced so far the only thing "auto" about auto assault is the fact that your in that car. Combat would be a whole lot more enjoyable for me if I didn't have the vehicle to deal with and try to look at stuff on all sides of me and drive in circles trying to target mobs that are moving around quickly with a mouse. It's a rather painful experience. And the radioactive healing pod things to fix your health in town seem like a really cheesy idea. Having to get your car repaired seems alot more sensible and beleivable then being fixed by parking next to some radioactive goo.
However it was alittle fun cruising the dunes and such with my ride, however I do not ever really get a car feeling from this game. The cars so far feel like they are just there so the game can appear to be a fresh idea. In every other way I have played so far the game feels like most other NCSoft games.
I did have fun so far playing the game but it was nothing show stopping or aything to get me excited about it enough to be looking forward to logging back in the next time. So far I am still interested in it enouogh to keep trying it however I don't see this game as anything more then guild wars in terms of cost and I wouldn't find a monthly fee acceptable or appropriate for it. It SEEMED like they were using Guild Wars server technology and just figuring they can get a monthly this time. I could be mistaken on a monthly fee being expected on launch, I have never read the FAQ or anything for it though.
I think the game might be pretty fun if I didn't have to use my car however for combat and everything else! However since I am stuck in a car I had certain expecations of the games feeling. I am a huge Need 4 Speed fan and I expected so high speed chases and such and I don't see where that can ever been gotten from this game. You just target it and hold down the mouse button. The combat system is kinda like Star Wars Galaxes NGE combat system too me so far.
I could be very wrong but that is the impressions I got so far and what I have decided about the game to this point. Thus far I would give the game a 5 out of 10 I think roughly guessing. It seems like it will be a solid game and it already has all the aspects of an MMO it needs for launch I just feel the whole Auto part of it doesn't live up too the name.

The problem with auto assault is that its done by the same people that brought us City of Hero's and City of villians admittingly both niche games but unfortuantly both dull after level 25+
Auto assault doesnt change that its basically a string of quests to go from lvl 1 to what ever the max level is.
To be frank auto assault seems to be a diablo style game they developed and instead of leaving it as say a 8 man team or so they decided to bolt on a whole MMORPG system in an attempt to cash in on the market.
Auto assault im sorry to say will bore most people it will appeal and if your into cars and holding down your mouse button to kill everything on screen then i recomend auto assault.
if you want a game which requires any degree of skill or has a semblence of fun then i wouldnt recomend AA.
Sorry guys but i played it for two days and after i reached level 10 realised that the game wasnt going to change at all. I didnt even bother with hte pvp because by the looks of things its just going to turn into whoever has the biggest gun and can mash the keyboard the quickest wins.
Try it but dont expect any miricles the game bites.
Granted there is a steep learning curve, but I think that the game will be a good one. After all there is joystick support, so if the keyboard is giving you problems go try the joystick, might be easier to control. As for it not being deep enough, I don't know what you all consider deep? Immersion? Storyline Quests? PVP battles and races?
Not trying to negate your points about the actual gameplay...
But Auto Assault ISN'T done by "the same people who brought you CoH/CoV". NCsoft didn't develop ANY of the 3 games, they're just the publisher. NetDevil developed AA, the people who brought us Jumpgate. CoH & CoV were developed by Cryptic Studios. Like I said, not trying to argue your opinion of the game, who developed it really doesn't affect that.
I played the game for about a month AWHILE ago. I was an early beta tester.
I thought the game was boring. You drive around in circles holding down your fire buttons until the group of bad guys all die. They dont chase you very far, there is no "High speed pursuits" like you would think would be in a driving MMO. All you do is drive around boring killing thousands of guys by just holding down the fire button (the guns auto aim for you).
The crafting was about as boring as it could be. New weapons and new chassis were not really 'exciting' to accomplish.
Leveling is slow.
The game is instanced.
PvP is going to be the funnest aspect, but you need to PvE before you can PvP to raise your levels and gear, since PvP is basically 'arena' style and some zones that you cant really play all your time in and be successful.
I give the game a 4 out of 10. Not going to buy it, not going to pay attention to any upgrades. Not going to hope they turn it around. Auto Assault sucked.
I was on the final beta for this game, I only got to play it for 2 days. I loved it. As somone said it'a an RPG FPS hybrid, the fact you get a car is really cool to me. The most fun I had playing the game was shooting the little peoples that would run around that you would end up agro'ing.
rItual, the shooting didn't have to be targeted, only if you clicked on the target you wanted to kill.
I like the fact that the item you would find strewn about could make customizations for you car, to make it look cooler.
The leveling was slow if you didn't do mission, in 2 days I was able to get to level 5, I only played a total of 7 hours of the game. The one thing I wasn't impressed with was the updating, maybe it was my connection or somehting but it went SLOW, but once I got ingame, my dissappointment was turned around. No, I'm not madly addicted to it, but it's a fun interesting game. I don't think you played it to it's fullest.

Well for the record, just so you know, since you apparently haven't been paying attention, most of what you just complained about was changed months ago.
Crafting was changed a lot. It is still a bit on the boring side unless you're really into crafting, but then again, if you aren't into crafting then tradeskills are boring in any game.
Leveling is MUCH faster than it used to be.
The game is instanced? Sorry, but I'm gonna have to call you a boldfaced liar on that one. There are only a VERY small handful of instanced areas in the game. I think while leveling from 1-25 or so you'll encounter a total of THREE instanced areas. Maybe 4, but pretty sure it was three.
Yeah, you have to PvE before you can PvP, but there are Arena Tourneys for all level ranges so you can PvP at any time you want, you don't have to level all the way up before going to PvP. Honestly it sounds like you were looking for a FPS not a MMORPG.
JtHM Arena PvP is not my thing. Im more into going and capturing territory, meeting enemies in my missions that try to jump me. The sort of "real PvP".
There are actually alot of instanced zones. The cities are instanced. And alot of the mission areas are instanced. Sure some of the zones are large, but having a planet i can explore from having a sort of "territories connected by portals" is not my idea of what a MMO should be in the year 2006.
I am aware they supposedly upgraded the crafting but I am not a crafter. I didnt play with it in beta too much. I did try it, but thought it was pointless boring.
I know they changed the Leveling but I dont have any interest in the game anymore so I havent reinstalled the beta in the last 4 months. Still even if I could level at a sane pace, I still would not be interested in having an Auto Assault account when it releases.
The combat is boring. All you do is drive around, hit "tab" to auto target something in range, and then hold down the fire button while driving in circles until the bad guy dies. I would of liked Auto Assault if it was PvP entirely. The PvE is weak. Very weak. But I will warn you, I am a PvP'er and I hate almost ALL games that have PvE elements. Unless it was like a war simulation, fantasy RPG's and driving MMO's are not really my genre to begin with.
re: instancing - just for clarification, every zone in the game is a type of instance. its thier way of dealing with crowding. if two many players enter a town, it divides into two instances. or three, four, etc. there are only a few instanced mission zones, however, in the private sense.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

There is also non-Arena PvP out in the Wastelands. Areas kinda like the Frontiers in DAoC with Outposts and Obelisks which you can capture and hold for your Faction/Guild etc. Ground Zero, the highest level PvE content in the game is also out in this area as well if I'm not mistaken, so there is indeed risk of your enemies jumping you while on a mission.
I see what the confusion is now, by "instanced" you actually mean "zoned". When I think of an Instance in a MMORPG what comes to mind is a small zone that only me and the members of my group can enter. Anyone else who tries enters their own copy of said zone that only their group is in, etc, you're just referring to having to zone from one area to the other.

"Holding for your faction/guild" just means that the outpost icon changes to your faction's color on the map, and becomes safe for same-faction players to drive past (When neutral, outpost turrets shoot at everyone)
It's not really like DAOC, in that there's no more benefit than that, and AFAIK, there's no way to see which guild claims an outpost, nor does it benefit the guild, only the claiming player. Also, it's very brief. You capture an Outpost, and it reverts to neutral, if not captured by another faction, within an hour and a half. Not like DAOC, where a guild often holds and defends the same keep, day after day. There'd really be no point to doing so, even if it were possible. There's no clan pride in a held keep. Players aren't going to be dropping what they're doing to defend thier clan's outpost.
The way there's both a PvP instance, and a PvE instance, I think even many PvPers will just use the PvE instance to do their missions, then go to the PvP layer to complain there's no one to PvP with. Getting jumped unexpectedly may not really happen, but it's hard to estimate how it'll play out when the game is live.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe GZ will be lots of fun for lots of players. I hope so. But I doubt it. I think it needs tons of work, first and foremost in the ideas department.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Someone has already mentioned your inaccurate ramblings about 'who done it' so moving on. A number of people complain about the skilless combat, mouse button holding, keymashing style so;
How many MMORPG's have ANY OF you played in which combat does NOT follow this path of events;
1. TAB to target enemy
2. Hold fire button to attack enemy
3. "mash" buttons ( hotkeys ) to use special powers/items.
Sure, the odd few require you to hover the aiming recticle over or near the target ( eg Neocron ) but by in large they all use the above system in one way or another.
What people find "fun" is completely subjective and so differs from person to person. Some people find golf fun, others find the whole notion rediculous and "wouldn't reccomend it".
And as far as I know any MMORPG that uses the old 'number cruncher/dice roll' system results in Higer lvl = bigger gun = WIN.
But atleast giggal suggests that people should try it, some people here just talk plain garbage.
Originally posted by nikoliath How many MMORPG's have ANY OF you played in which combat does NOT follow this path of events;
I think part of the issue is that people thought AA wasn't going to be so much of an MMORPG. They market it as if it's more of an action game than it is, maybe even as much as Planetside, so people go into it with a misconception about the very genre it's in. I think if people were clear right off on it being an mmoRPG, they wouldn't complain so much about the lack of twitch.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Well bummer! I was looking forward to an mmo other than a fantasy game for once... I really had high hopes for pvp and winning pink slips.. well they at least have cov and coh going for them.. back to waiting for star trek..
I'm waiting for STO too but, don't let the thoughts of forum posters sway you. Make your own choice. I think the problem with the people here are that they are trying to compare it to a FPS just because it uses real time reflexes as a part of the staragy. As for people saying you just sit and shot. Fight something tougher.

Yay for the Frontiers.
