Where to go from here...

i was a big fan of pre cu galaxies and as i have now completly given up hope on swg am looking for its replacement. I like complex games with a big community and good pvp and i like it to be tough and take quite a while to get up to full temp etc.

I played eve for a while and liked it, the problem is that its a bit bleak with the darkness and no avatar to control etc.

Which of the current and upcoming releases can anyone recommend?

I was looking forward to dark and light but after reading some of the forums it seems people are already hating it. Also i thought age of conan and pirates of the burning sea looks promising.

Any help much apprieciated

Honestly man i think alot of us are in the same boat , If you have never tried DAOC give it a try . If you get the Trial make sure you visit the DAOC forum here, Ellinator (sp?::::37::) put up a post about how to get the new graphics engine into the demo .

As for anything else its kind of wait it out for me something has to release sometime to Rid my thirst for SWG , Or a good game in general .

I'm waiting for The Chronicle. They've got a lot of great ideas. If they can get them to work, should be better than most of the crap out there. And I'll play that 'till Life vs Death comes out. Zombie MMO = Bitchin' game.

I would say daoc might be good for you, but if not then you might want to sit around and wait for something to be released or start playing single player games again until a decent mmorpg is released. I would tell you that I enjoy eq2 but I am sure after all this you would rather not play an soe game though.

Yeah, the NGE has left a sour taste in many players mouths(I bet even those who like it will say its a different game, but the same grind).

Its hard to beat SWG's crafting system, which I think made a big part of the game. The combat was also pretty nice, at least pre-cu, except for the macroing madness. And the fact that most master professions had maybe one or two good specials and one or two good weapons to use at high levels, that hasn't changed with the NGE though either it seems.

I am currently playing EVE, and its alright.

But I still wonder where pre-cu would have ended up if they didn't quit development on it.(what do you mean there is no quit at SOE? they quit the pre-cu, and the cu)

Star Trek Online is what I look forward to, but it's too far away.  I even doubt it'll make it to 2007.

RF Online and Roma Victor sound very interesting.

I was really interested in Imperator myself.  image  It's a very sad thing to see it stalled out when it had so much promise.

A lot of people say that DAoC's a decent surrogate, but to be honest, I'd tried it before I took up SWG and it wasn't all that.  I liked AO better (played it for years), but AO just doesn't do it for me anymore.  At least not in large doses.

I'm already quite sick of WoW, and never really favored it anyway, as I find the game far too limited and confining.  My husband played WoW since its beta and has finally grown so tired of it that he's looking for greener pastures.

The bad part is, we can't seem to find anything.  Nothing currently in release will cut it and it's not looking like anything coming out in the first half of this year is going to be more than a temporary fling.  Age of Conan and Star Trek look kinda cool, but neither one looks like it'll even hit beta before summer comes and goes, if at all this year.  Vangaurd seems okay, but I just can't seem to get excited about it.  This isn't promising at all, considering both my husband and I are a hair shy of DESPERATE for a good game.

I keep hoping that something sneaks in and surprises us.  Because another month of the same old shit is going to make for domestic disharmony in Casa Azhrarn.

In my best dream swg pre-nge ran by a group that listened tot he paying customers and nto the potential customers would be in play. sadly that is not goign to happen in this life time that i can foresee.

Since leaving Azahi, I am playing WoW (not all that inpressed with it, feels like the cu in some ways), but all of the guild in swg moved to wow and my server (yes we are in the "vocal minority, all 200 of us).  Reactivated my AO accounts, and got a nice gift of all the old toons intact! only7 have to deal with shadowcamp there now.

in the future: the Star trek looks interesting save for the devs vision of a fps style of a ground game. guess i could stay in space.

bottom line i am a sci-fi gamer, not a fricken elf/dwarf/orc lover. i loved the indepth crafting system in swg, If there was a game that had that I would be there in a New York minute.

(edit): p/s ico...i play at the end of the day to relax and unwind with friends. i have a very active and vivid real life thank you

The death penalty's too harsh, the fees are outragous and the grind is a bitch.

Can't say much for the end game content, either. Note to parents: Not for the kiddies. Filled with violence, nudity and harsh language.

Overall, there's better things to do with your time. 7/10

im from an extremely remote area, free time in RL isnt too useful. its either MMORPG's or pve with bears and tigers with no respawn.

Tsk tsk, Ico.  I and my husband work and play hard IRL, getting more of it than many non-gamers ever see or do.  Because we live so strenuously, mmorpgs are a much-needed way to calm down, destress and interact without ripping each other (or innocent bystanders) to shreds.  MMOs are far less objectionable than drugs and alcohol and are far more interactive than TV.

As for "hardcore PvP mode"... sounds to me like you're the one that needs to get a life -- before you GET life.
