My other post got blown away so here it goes again... (mods feel free to delete this if I ended up double posting)
I see people talking about PVP, wanting a good PVP game, and giving long lists of why they hate everything from DAOC to WoW. CoV has only been out 90 days, and we've seen a lot of transition in the PVP community.
CoV PVP is meant to be group based, and as such plays just like you're familiar with in games like DAOC, WoW, Guild Wars, etc. You have damage, buffs, stuns, holds, break frees, snares, etc. CoV has PVP zones just like the other games, but in a city or countryside setting.
The big thing about CoV is that there is no stupid item grind, and they have a short mission system (newspapers) that allow you to have a fully maxed villain in about 40-50 hours played if you have a decent guild or group to run with.
MMORPG.COM recently did an article about a PVP patch (Issue 7) coming, and there is likely to be many more months of PVP community enhancements.
LotD also wrote a 60 day pvp review back in early Jan.
Quick Notes about PVP
1.
You can start PVP'ing at level 15.
2.
You do best if you run with a skilled guild that knows how to build team spec builds. We have been working with ours and we have several developed, and we approached it the same way we did in Guild Wars where we were in the top guilds for a long time.
3.
If you tried to go PVP by yourself and got owned, your only mistake was not getting in an organized guild.
4.
More PVP is happening now, and Issue 7 is likely to have some good PVP rewards that are going to get more people to the zones.
5.
A lot of the PVP guilds (SG/VG) that stuck it out and are still around are the ones you'd want to join. Being in the right or wrong guild makes all the difference when it comes to leveling quickly, and being part of a successful PVP team.
6.
CoV PVP builds can defeat superior odds consistently if you are part of a skilled team. Zerg warfare doesn't work unless you are outnumbered 5-1+, you don't need a million man guild to be successful, and you should look for a guild that can regularly field an 8 man PVP team based on a good build.
Bottom Line
If you aren't happy with your current game because of ques, item grinds, level grinds, or zerg warfare then give CoV a shot.
If you had a bad experience because you didn't know much about PVP or you joined some newbie guild, consider coming back and getting into a villain guild that has been able to hang around while proving to be successful.
To anyone who says CoV PVP isn't up to snuff, I say its no different than the PVP offered in DAOC, WoW, Guild Wars, EQ, etc as far as tactics, strategy, and organization.
LotD is on the Freedom server, and we're always looking for motivated people. Come see us if you end up there and are looking for a skilled villain guild.

I agree with you that CoH/CoV has good PvP. The reason I think its good though is because you can do well as a solo player, or even as a PvE player with a non-traditional AT.
To me any game where you need to build around a teamspeak server to fit in with a guild is a game with seriously closed and limiting PvP options.
The game is fun, with just enough rocket science to give some variety. It makes it so people don't need to specialize in something they don't want to play, simply because it fits in with what a guild orders.
I have been in many fun and successful Bloody Bay encounters in pick up groups using very strange builds slotted for soloing mostly. Sometimes in pick up groups I went up against groups from a single SG sometimes, and were able to be just as competitive.
And even if you PvE a lot, you can still contribute to PvP by running missions in Bloody Bay to advance your side's statistics. Its not just a single effort, or a SG effort. Its a community effort.
So I guess I'm trying to say that if readers here are a bit hesitant after reading about needing to be a cog in a PvP guild's macine just to compete and have fun in PvP, I'm here to say it doesn't have to be that way. I have had just as much fun in PvP, and was just as successful, without having to join an SG.

I agree with you to an extent. It is not absolutely required to have a team build, but you will be more consistently successful with one.
The main point I was trying to make about running with a team was that early on a lot of people tried to go to the pvp zones and then came to the forums complaining that they got owned or couldn't crush hordes of enemies all by their lonesome.
I do know that there is an issue with people TP'ing into drones, but that is being fixed in Issue 7. In the meantime, a lot of us simply don't camp the hero or villain hospital so drones become a non-factor.

PvPing with my Ninja/Ninja stalker was the most fun PvP I have had since UO.
I think Cryptic have done a commendable job of PvP in CoV/CoH. Its defeinately FUN!!

I would say that CoV PvP is underestimated.
in games where you can take over castles, raid towns and protect your lands, the PvP suddenly gains a meaning on its own, doesn't really need any other bonuses.
But in games like these the PvP will be a bit harder to do useful... but it gladdens me that they are working on it in CoV!
GO CoV!

This is COV PVP
Hero side
15 heros all huddled around each other in one spot like Kittens spamming buffs and AOE holds or waiting for the Controller Stormy to show up so they can hide in his AOE knockback spell, Waiting for a villian to pop up.. As soon as he/she pops up all 15 attack with everything they got all the while hiding in there AOE hold (so the villian cant get away) or moving the AOE hold to the villian.. Rince and repeat..If there not doing that there Teleporting you into Drones (Instant death NPC's)
Villian side
80% of the PVP Villians are stalkers.. So there (stealthed) and waiting for 1 of the 15 heros to drift away from there litter box so they can 1 or 2 shot kill them. If Villians are not doing that there teleporting you into Drones or Stalker gank squads...
Weee FUN.....
The cryptic squad tried but they have a ways to go. But I will admit the game is a pretty damn good hold me over game while you wait for something else to come out.l

Not true at all.
For one PVP zone combat is balanced around team play. No one can sit there and be consistently successful running solo in a PVP zone. Anyone who does run solo and expects to wtfpwn deserves to get owned and ridiculed.
On the villain side, stalkers aren't the craze anymore because 75% of the the people playing them weren't skilled. As a result of that, they no longer get the easy kills because heroes have started to team up and the good teams are running anti-AS AOE powers.
More villains are rolling up corruptors because corruprtors are the only villain class that provides good damage, with healing, with buffs, and other utility features.
PVP was new to the COH/COV community and because of that there is a learning and evolution curve. People are getting better at grouping and employing group strategies, and the PVP experience is improving as people get used to it.

For those of you that dont believe me just log in and play..simple as that COV PVP is just like I said above.
As I said the Cryptic squad tried but as with any game its the players that ultimately make the game, and in COV/COH case players have decided to huddle in AOE holds like kittens which people try tell you is "Team WORK". Or if there not doing that there teleporting you into drones, which in any other game could be considered griefing. But not in COV/COH.

A little true, but mostly not true . If you were to check it out, there are tons of ways to shut down storm trollers or defenders. If you were a bit better and in a good group those "huddles of kittens" could be picked apart and crushed in no time.
What your describing is how the beginners pvp, or pugs. The best thing bout coh/v pvp is zerging doesnt always work. In every other pvp game ive played superior numbers always won, but in cov, an experienced group can easily take down twice there numbers. Good sg's have often dominated pvp zones even when heavily out numbered.
I think its great that theres finally a mmorpg game in which you can excel in pvp, NOT because of your lvl or gear, but because of yor experience and teamwork. ITs also VERY commen that a lvl 20some ( in the right hands) takes down a lvl 50 in a pvp zone, even without all the extra enhancements and powers that the 50 gets.
Lol I had one of the higest kill rate on my server around 625 when I left last month with my stalker BowDoWn, you assumming I was not good is comical.. I will be back in a few weeks and would love to show you if you have a character on Freedom.. Just leave your character name in this thread or PM me the name.
Oh btw I dont need a group to hold my gonads for me to kill people. I was the one picking those kittens off not the kitten hidding in AOE holds like the majority of people do and call it "Team Work".
I'll post a vid too when I get my new card for you people who think im lying when I say how PVP is in this game..

Hehe...i must admit I was needling you a bit, I do apologize
However you are still right and wrong bout the pvp... what you are describing is from the view of a soloer( you admited yourself you wre always solo) against pug hero groups. And stalker pvp is the most bland, uncreative, no skill .. pvp to be had, no offense to you ( most the old tricks probably wont work for you either) try some sg vs sg pvp thats were the game shines.
PVP is in the eye of the beholder. On some servers there are horrible PVP guilds who are stupid enough to get owned by Storm trollers, etc. That is the beauty of a PVP zone, because the unorganized and the uskilled will be repeatedly defeated. Those who are organized and coordinated will do well and can hold out vs superior numbers.
PVP is new to the game and there are lots of villains out there that need to figure out the best team combination. CoH already had an arena for smaller scale combat.
As I said earlier, people can survive by themselves in a PVP zone but they will be more consistently successful over time in a group.
The PVP in COV has the same elements as games like DAOC, WoW, etc. You have heals, rez's, mez's, snares, slows, aoes, single target damage, air combat, and the list goes on. Apply it to CoV, get rid of the stupid item grind that the other games have, and you get something that can keep casual gamers pretty happy.
Issue 7 will have a dynamic PVP zone where things can be captured (ala DAOC, WoW, and soon Guild Wars xpack 2) and you've got a PVP zone for every type of combat you could want.
