When I was a kid, I never had anything like these games on offer (though I did love board games), so my general attitude is: keep it up, all people like Turbine. Great job.

They created something fun, atmospheric, complex, which in works pretty dam well .

If you don't like it, fine, don't get it.. but what's with all these insults? Want something better: make one yourself then, buddy, then come back and show me what you did. If it's good, I'll pay you to play it.

In the meantime, by all means make constructive suggestions, but lay off the unpleasantries and thank your lucky stars you have access to anything like this technology.

Sheesh.

Well, when I was a kid we didnt either, in fact, I can recall when we got the new grandstand system (think pong) and it was great. Mind you, its wasnt £40 per game and £10 per month for the pleasure either.

Ive played DDO, a few days on the trot now. I am disappointed indeed. Its not bad no, and I know its still in beta (though fast approaching release). To me, its very much like guild wars (instanced, shallow community, collectors to hand things into et al). Only GW is free to play and looks better. DDO looks ok, it plays ok, the UI is ok. But thats just it, its all just ... ok. I'd like to see the game suceed. But this will only happen if the devs listen to the community and react. I think it will get average reviews on release and will prob be snapped up by D&D diehards. Again, I wish it well but as it stands, it has serious up and coming competition and I dont think it will do as well as its name would suggest.

... and you are very welcome to express your disappointment. Constructive criticism is important.

But what's with the nastiness of so many of the posts here? Creation should be celebrated, not torn down, even if it is not perfect.

I believe people like Turbine should be encouraged. They make our messy world a better place.

I have issues with the game, sure, but I think there is plenty fun to be had, so I will play it as long as that lasts.

I disagree with your comment about shallow community in DDO. I think the game really lets you develope your own community. It's really easy to find players with similar interest. It is true that this alienates the different groups, but it's nothing like Guild Wars. I did not feel like looking for a group in Guild Wars because 99% of the people were immature pricks, while in DDO, from my experiences, you can get a great group in a short time. I have formed more friendships within my PUGs in DDO than comapred to PUGs in all other MMOs (including Guild Wars, if you think it's not an MMO [matter of fact I did not find any friends in GW even though I was in a decent RP guild ]).

I do agree that the graphics are only ok, the gameplay is also ok, ui is very standard MMO fair. Yet I think the total package is pretty solid. Atmosphere and immersion are very important for me and I think DDO delivers on that front.

BTW, kudos to the OP, nice to see some positive threads!:)
