Well, after much inside debate, I've decided to come back home. I played the original EQ for 3 years and left because I just didn't enjoy looking for groups for 2-3 hours and just didn't find as much fun content in the higher end part of the game as I did in the lower and middle parts. Plus, it just wasn't feasible starting a new character as character progression just wasn't what it was.
So, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and join WoW and honestly, I played for a little over a year, but I just didn't enjoy the game. My basic routine was "Login, kill, kill, kill, skin, tailor, kill, kill, kill" while listening to people be rude and inconsiderate and don't dare ask for help...lord what a pandora's box you open when you do that. I did give it the benefit of the doubt and switched realms, thinking maybe I was just on a bad realm...needless to say, wasn't the realm but I truly believe the age groups.
I sat a scratched my head thinking I've heard SO MUCH bad press on EQ2. Graphics were okay but the game itself was awful. I finally bit the bullet and purchased the game, with DoF expansion and I have to say, I feel like I did when I first started EQ 3 years ago. People seem to be more adult and the game itself, just seems to be geared towards adults and not as cartoonish. I just regret not trying it sooner.
Now, for those that want to flame me, saying whatever you want to say, go ahead. I just wanted to write this for those that are like me, loved EQ, hates what they are playing now and are just not sure about EQ2. I believe it is worth a shot and you may just find an old love you have been missing.
BTW, I also play on going to Vanguard when they release, so I hope SOE has plans to keep improving as I see Vanguard bankrupting them if they are not careful...

In pretty much any traditional MMORPG, you'll be killing countless things over and over. Really it's not so much the action or the environment but the experience you get from it because, if you boil down all traditional MMORPGs down to their essence, they're nothing more than grindfests.
Just a quick response....After playing EQ for 3 years, WoW for a little over a year, and dabbled in DaoC, CoH, and AO, I know that MMO's are mainly grindfest, so no real surprise there. The main thing I tried to point out is that EQ2 seems to be geared more toward the adult populace and not so cartoonish. Plus, the community seems to be more adult.
As far as reading opinions, the only site I really read about games is this one and unfortunately, I don't have the money to throw at all the games, so I have to be picky on what I play. I'm just glad I tried this out as I am pretty excited about the possibilities and look forward to the weekend ahead.
Glad to hear you're having fun, dthoff. EQ2 has come a long way and is definitely top 2 fantasy MMORPG's right now, DAoC also being right up there. The community does seem a lot more mature, even though you will still find your pissants.
Just remember, you don't need a credit card, time or sense of decency to say a game sucks. To actually play a game and give it an honest review, you do.
welcome back
You will find that this game is now awsome
And i dont think Vanguard will bankrupt eq2, as I have heared and read myself Vanguard will hurt EQ if anything
Because vanguard is keepng it oldschool hardcore, and not new age fun like EQ2 and to a much more extreme extent WoW
The new EQ2, better than ever befor !
