I need a new mmorpg. I knew DAoC would only last 2 months at the most but thats what i figured i only needed(because 2 months ago people thought WoW would be out early 2004) but now that we know WoW shouldn't be out for another year, i need a new MMORPG.
I was thinking FFXI... Here's what i look for in an MMORPG....
-Good graphics
-Great enviroments( i don't want a boring world)
-Worth while quests( doesn't have to be top notch, just something thats worth doing)
- Fun fighting( i should be able to solo and group and have fun at both)
- transportation ( i dont expect to be on my feet the whole time)
-Tradeskills ( I want a game that has some cool tradeskills to get money such as fishing, mining, ect.)
I know it's alot, but do any games come close? Thanks in advance.

long time till WoW. I would give FFXI a try rathma. It has pretty much everything you listed. Soloing isnt real easy at the higher levels but other then that it fits what your looking for imo.
The graphics are excellent.
Not only are the craft skills pretty neat, gather resources can be profitable and fun as well. Running through mines looking for excavation points then using your pick, or chopping trees in the forest etc...
There are several forms of transportation which become more available as you level up. You start out with just running around but by level 20 you can get a chocobo license which allows you to ride a mount anywhere you want. There is also a boat that crosses the ocean from Selbina to Mhuara which can be fun to ride, it even gets attacked by pirates sometimes. Eventually you get air ship passes and those can take you across large stretchs of land very quickly.
The battles are alot of fun with the different weapon skills really having an impact on how a fight goes.
There are a couple difficult things to get by when you first start however. The UI was designed for Playstation 2 and is horrid on the PC. You get used to it eventually but it never becomes smooth imo. If you can get used to that and some of the other difficulties at start, FFXI is a great deal of fun. Its the only mmorpg to hold my interest this long since Everquest.

does FFXI have any type of Player vs player, dueling, arena, open hostile areas? Anything like that?
Also how did you only play for 2 months, I played for over a year and I only had 2 lvl 50s. What were you lvl 25 and got discouraged at the low lvl battlegrounds with 2 people both stealthers? If so thats sad.
