hello. I used to play this game and now wish to come back IF I can get one thing to work.
You see, the whole reason I left last time was due to terrible latency. I do not know what the problem is, but I believe it has to do both with my connection AND my computer. If anyone here could help me clear up some misuderstandings, that would be excellent.
First off, here are my system specs:
Microsoft Windows 2000
5.00.2195
Service Pack 4
Hewlett-Packard HP PC
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.8Ghz
AT/AT Compatible
786MB RAM
Now, I do not think this is the main problem, for my screen is never 'jumpy' or 'lagged'. But, my latency is a WHOLE OTHER STORY
I have Comcast Cable Internet and whenever I ran treaceroutes to the World of Warcraft Login Server's IP, the second 'hop' always timed out. Seeing that that hop is the response BACK from the server (which determines the latency), this could be a MAJOR problem.
I used to get between 7000-10000 ms (milliseconds) latency when in near-unpopulated areas (IE bordering the river between Elwynn and Duskwood), and up to 31,000 in Ironforge and Stormwind. I have read many high-latency-help threads on the World of Warcraft Technical Support forums, but none of them seem to fit my problem's description.
There is no specific time of day at which my latencies were high or low, so I don;t think it has to do with traffic on Comcast's shared network.
I have tried everything, including uninstalling my McAfee firewall, but nothing seems to work. Please, if anyone has a solution I would be eternally grateful, for I remember It as a great game when it did work...

i think u need abit more cpu :S
wats ur gfx card?
i think you have enough ram... although my computer is still kinda bad with 1024mb of ram
no idea why you get such high latencies, something is obviously blocking/preventing/holding back/etc. something.
btw checked for a virus lately? they can turn ur computer in2 a server and lag you till u explode
?played: Nearly everything.
?waiting: *Darkfall*, Hero''s Journey
you can upgrade your ram and and video card.. then check on your connection... thats very important..

Can I ask the same question.. here are my system properties

Microsoft XP service pack 2

Pentium(R) 4

CPU 3.20GHz

512 MB ram

128 mb ATI gfx card

256kbps dsl/cable connection?

think Ill lag?
I normally play wow on ;
2.4ghz celeron
64mb 845g intel crap graphics
512 ram
2mb line
Although the graphics arent as good as they are on my better pc, theyre still not that bad, and im quite happy with the gameplay. I used to get a lot of lag, especially in IF, it wasnt so bad that you couldnt play, but it seems to have gotten better. I think a lot of the lag in the past has been due to the server lag. Everyone was complaining about it.
But anyway even with a crap outdated graphics i can still play. It looks ok as well!! Never had any graphical problems.
