I'm kind of annoyed that all games released have a "HEY NO ONE WANTS TO GET KILLED BY PLAYERS" attitude. I'm still playing Ultima Online cause it's the only game which has free enough PvP. Hell, I like hiding behind a tree waiting for someone to come along... I like being paranoid about someone hiding behind a rock waiting for me. It adds excitement to the game. A real life element as well. Guild wars are fun cause you can catch members of the other guild off guard going on hunts. You can revenge the deaths of your fellow men Feelings of hatred and satisfaction when you kill someone knowing that it's an actual person. I mean seriously, how can you hate AI?
There's nothing like the satisfaction of slaying a fellow human (in game of course
Any games coming soon with this sort of PVP? I'm tired of the pussy footing "You're safe as long as you stay away from the big bad monsters!!!"...

Melachi I have to completely agree with you on this. I like pvp. And I'm not talking about "Hey would you like to duel me?" "Well, wait till I level." I'm talking about "Screw you noob!" "What biotch?!" *OWNED*
Ultima Online has the best gameplay in my opinion and the biggest influential factor is it's PVP system. It didn't get out of hand because of the karma system and there were always just as many tuff good guys as bad guys. No game ever got my heart pumping like UO did. Two reasons why I don't play anymore is because I've played the game inside out and upside down (OSI and player-run, even ran a few of my own shards) and the graphics are a bit too oldschool for 2003. But if they made a new Ultima Online (no not UXO) with a new engine but the same basic gameplay features, I'd play it no doubt.
Anyway I just felt I had to add that. It's good to know that there's still some of us out there that aren't afraid of a little excitement.
True Knowledge is Knowing that you Know Knothing!
I agree that UO had a great PvP system.
Order vs Chaos (Good vs Evil)
Factions (4 Seperate Ones)
Justice (Criminals vs Bounty Hunters, or Greys vs Reds vs Blues, and blues/greys/reds even attacked each other which means your not limited by your criminal standings.)
Free PvP everywhere (Pre-Trammel)
Guild Wars (And Allys)
This game seemed to have less limits, and it was so free. I could have fun for 1000 years playing UO 4-5 years ago (Yea, i tryed the illegal player-run shards, it just doesn't do it for me)

Two things to add.
1] In UO it was a lot about skill (especially with mages) I got beat plenty of times by people of inferior skills.
2] i do agree in most other games the people who put in the most time and are highest level have an advantage which is why i -LOVED- DAoC's Battle Grounds. Those of you who aren't familiar with them, they are places where certain levels of people are only allowed in. This made PvP (RvR) in DAoC 5x better.

Everquest just released a new server (not sure if it's in testing still or not) called Discord, a hardcore PvP server. It has the most intense PvP I've ever seen. A list of changes:
- Any character that is slain for any reason what so ever will be reset and placed back into newbie status. Characters will not be restored or resurrected for ANY reason what so ever. Once you're dead, you're dead.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
- Each account will only be allowed one character on this server. Any PvP death results in the killing player obtaining a number of points based on the levels of the characters involved. Players can only gain points from characters that are within 5 levels of them.
- You may loot all tradable items from the corpse of the character you just killed, all other equipment is destroyed with the character.
- The server will make use of the Firiona Vie no drop rules (few things will be No-Drop)
- The server will have the old world (Antonica, Faydwer, Odus) plus the Legacy of Ykesha expansion , and will only allow characters to reach level 50 with no AA.
- The server will have a doubled experience modifier to facilitate faster paced gameplay.
- Players will not be able to turn on /anonymous or /roleplay to hide their current location.
Black Star Deceiver kills it all.
The sun lies waiting for a call.

Well I hate to burst everyone's bubble here, but do you really think that Darkfall, DnL are really going to go threw with plans of a free for all PvP game? Like all other games that have made the same claims, they will change to more of a limited PvP system.
Horizons is one game I do recall claiming it would have blood wars between races. Now as it sits, no PvP no matter what the situation. And few races anyway. One heck of a nice crafting system. The big problem is this game is based on the crafting system.
Every game is going to enforce a non-pvp or limited pvp system. Why is that? Because the majority of players prefer the consentual PvP system. So Gaming companies will go for what the majority of players want. It's no good to companies that loose alot of their players on a regular basis because the get sick of gettin ganked.
I don't mind PvP, I too played old School UO. But now in fel it is just annoying. Goto a moongate and sittin their is a group waiting to gank ya. That kinda spoils that. Now wondering along and gettin jumped is kinda fun...runnin like hell as a newbie...lol.
But what it comes down to, UO subscriber base when up after intro of Trammel. And Trammel was introduced because of loosing subcriptions due to the constant PKin. It really takes the fun from an on0line game when ya spend more time as a ghost than ya do playing.
Take my word for it, DF, DE, DnL won't be a free for all PvP system...it will be changed, if not before release.within a year afterwards.
*A game does not rule all other games...espcially if it hasn't been released yet.*
I agree with what you said but dont you think theres a good chance that most of the all out pvping gamers out there are gonna all go to one of these games?? The gamers that dont mind gettin ganked...I for one dont mind gettin ganked over and over. These games are promising the pvp, lets hope they dont sell out.

I think I'll give the shadowbane trial a shot. It's free and doesn't take too long todownload on 10mb (thank god:)
If anyone else wants to download the trial you can find it here:

My recommendation for a mmorpg pvp based game is Shadowbane.
Unfortunately the game came under attack by exploits and bugs soon after release and everyone started duping items, gold etc left right and center. Even me. So i reported what techniques i knew, got suspened for it.. (WTF) and quit the game...
But as far as pvp goes, this game has a well balanced system and nobody is truely your friend.

I played UO for 3 years or so (since the beta test) and finally quit because 3 years is long enough. But, recently I found a new game that reminds me a lot of UO called Endless Ages: http://www.endlessagesportal.com/
I like the game a ton, but not many people play it. You should join and try it out. You raise skills by doing like in UO and theres housing, pets, mounts, vehicles, magery, and crafting like in UO. The PvP is not like those EQ clone games where you just target once and press off the hotkeys. It's more like UO since you have to actually be good to win. Plus theres no pvp switch or crap like that.
Try the 5day trial. I know it looks bad and I was skeptical at first, but it's actually quite good.
As far as shadowbane goes: Shadowbane was the game I thought would kill UO... but it didn't because it stinks. It's got the same kind of PvP as the EQ clones and that doesn't appeal to me. I beta tested it and didn't like it, then recently I tried the trial and didn't like it still.
If you get killed over and over again you need to reconsider your choice of location.
There is something called "avoid being pk'd"
Yea, I couldn't test the shadowbane trial since it's NA only.. good way to pull players..

And why may I ask should one person determine where and when another person chooses to hunt in a game? He's paying to play and enjoy his online experience. Being killed once is one thing, but harrassing someone by killing them over and over is just being a dick. And nothing you can say will make me believe this is the way a MMORPG should be played. If you want to quench your thirst for killing other PCs then try a online FPS. Because the only time I have seen FPS metioned in a MMORPG was in Endless Ages and ain't many people playing that game..............makes you wonder. So don't get your genres crossed.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Shadowbade was a great game i played it since it came out it has everything including lots of tech diffuculties.. best pvp hands down its all about how you make your char and there are so many ways to do it really well developed pvp. i did quit the game though the reason being when shadowbane came out there where lots of server problems with no end in sight ppl got fed up and started leaving for that reason and the terrible graphix and interface. Soon half or 3/4 of the population on my server was gone and what kind of a pvp game is a good one with no one to pvp so i left as well.. i heard the whole game was like this but i think i may resubscribe because its the best game out there too bad they just couldnt get it right hoping some one will take these ideas and do something with it.
as for these newer games pussyfooting around the pvp its just got to change i refuse to play a game with out it well i played horizions for about 4 days because i remembered them talking about pvp was terribly dissapointed when i found out not only no pvp but no rogue chars and the tank types didnt even have a taunt, archers could kill enemies with thier snare and run tact with no effort at all. i made it to lvl 35 and was using my skills i got at lvl 6 still because they where far better really bad game. any how PVP is a must its the whole reason you grind xp the only reason you make your char. it gives a much needed point to leveling for hours just to have the satisfaction of winning in a duel or loosing to make you rethink how you made your char all togeather who wants to be the best monster killer? not me id rather kill him.
I play fps games, it's a different thing...
Don't try to preach a national team player.
I find it quite boring to only have to be worried about stupid AI monsters coming after you.
It's not even personal to be attacked by one.
Of course it wouldn't be truly beneficial to just be a pvp. You're not even look at the large picture. Use some feckin logic please. Like in UO you went red and didn't have as many benefits as blue players.
Hell, one of the m's in mmorpg stand for multiplayer. What's multiplayer about killing monsters and barely having any interaction with other players, other than sitting down in town discussing what type of idiotic AI you just killed and how it showed no emotions being slain.
