WoW! - Everyone Take Note!

I learned that thier was a new Community Manager for World of Warcraft.  I read all her sticky posts and she spent time to quote and reply to everyones questions in an 11 page thread.  I was amazed by this.

AND THEN

What amazed me the most, is some guy giving an idea, and the first reply was this community manager telling him that it was a good idea and she will talk to the Dev's.  I almost had a heart attack.  More companys should do what Blizzard is doing, listen to the people that put food on your tables (EA-please take some notes), and even tho i think the idea would involve a major change in the game, which probably wont happen this close to beta.  I just thought that was great attention to thier fans.

World of Warcraft is turning out to be a GREAT game.  Everyday im more excited to play it.

Sure thing.  But i think if its a good enough idea to implemint, Blizzard will get wise and change the idea enough so they could impliment it without changing the game too much.

I don't know, but I just don't trust big companies. Ok, so she says she'll talk to a dev (It's a she, right? Can't remember and can't see post..). Does that mean she really will? No, it means shes trying to put on a good public image. But hey, I'm a pessimist...I expect the worst from people. So its quite possible she really is sincere, but with company's like EA, Sony, and so forth and their people...just makes you a little doubtful.

But as for answering questions, thats always good...I hate companies that refuse to answer any questions on a certain topic or something. They want us to be interested? Answer our questions! :P

well the idea was good. So if they don't they are stupid. But the chances are they will , they ask people for their suggestions for a reason, develop a game that people will like.

Yea....the 1st step of the rise of WoW. They gonna take over eq as the no.1 mmorpg yea?

Let's not put the cart before the horse.  Let the game come to release, or at least open beta, so that people can start to formulate opinions based upon facts and not speculation.

Remember, we know nothing about the game beyond the promises made.

As if EQ  no.1 mmorpg, how many ppl still play that? or how many people did play it in it's prime?

I agree...I've been burned by too many great expectations.  I'll wait until the game is released to pass judgement.  Still, it's an encouraging story.  All it will take for a MMOG to topple EQ is for the devs to actually listen to the community and treat it with respect.

Oh, wait!  Mythic already does that.

I don't trust the big companies either with the exception of Blizzard.  They make great games and dont have that major corporation "How can we shaft our customers today" frame of mind.  If thiers one company that i trust the most is Blizzard.  I refuse to play UXO because of EA, and EQ Becuase of Sony.

You may need to rethink your opinion here.  Consider a few facts:

    • Vivendi Universal owns Blizzard.
    • Vivendi Universal allowed the core Diablo team to walk, a move probably monumentally detrimental to the Diablo franchase, and thus a massive cash cow for Blizzard.
    • The Vivendi Universal sale of their gaming assets has been undetermined as of yet.  They may sell, but so far they have declined to do so.  We, therefore, have no idea what will happen to Blizzard in the near future (mind you, nobody will scrap it, it's too successful).

Now, my experiences with Blizzard products have been very good.  They have been able to do great things with great games, and seem to really care for the gamer experience.  That seems to mean it should translate to a good MMOG.  But they've never done a RPG, let alone a MMOG.  This will be their first venture into a very different market space.  So don't simply expect that their past performance automatically translates into future performance.  Things look good, yes, but we just don't know what WoW will be until we can take a peek under the hood.

As for distributors...you can't judge a game solely on the distributor.  THey are important, yes, but they are not the critical factor in game design.  Hell, Vivendi Universal has put out such total drek over the years that by the same logic you use to slight EQ and UXO (because of Sony and EA) I would expect WoW would be on your major crap-list.  Put the weight of judgement on the developer, not the distributor...though I'm not suggesting the distributor can't screw things up.

Yea, your experiences with Blizzard have been good, thats because the give all of thier customers good experiences, and WoW looks like the most complete and best/funnest game that ive read about so far (for the ones in the race in 2004, which means it looks the best out of all the ones not been played yet)

I never did judge the game soley on the distributor.  But im going to expect more for Blizzard who have always been good to thier customers rather ten EA or Sony, who just want the buck.  Blizzard has a GREAT track record, so i trust them.  They get things done, and done well.  I wouldnt care if Blizzard is run by EA, as long as they dont change everything they give the customer, ill be happy, and i know that they will make a good game.

It's a title worthy of being excited about.  The fact that blizzard is doing it is exciting too, for all the reasons suggested.  But Blizzard isn't perfect (*cough* SOJs *cough*) and they will make mistakes.  MMOGs are tremendous undertakings.  The level of expectation some people have of WoW is so high that it can only disappoint.  I'd hate to see that happen.

One thing though.. why do ppl keep saying EQ is the #1 mmorpg? (*hint, hint* Lineage..)maybe cuz lineage wasn't really popular over here..

Wasn't the community manager position being advertised a while ago for WoW? You shouldn't be amazed by things such as that. Most companies dont have community managers until the game is released to my knowledge, ugh crappy rap on radio making it hard to think.

  • ParaTrooperParaTrooper Member Posts: 1,961
Yer, most of the major mmorpg's have them though, with some exceptions. Imagine if there were no admins on the WoW forums... it'd be complete n00b spam......oh wait it still is image
