Hi. I´m a casual player and i usually don´t play with other gamers. Actually I´m playing wow and i like the style of this game, so i´m looking for a similar game.
Is daoc a good game to play solo? or like everquest II you need to group to do the quests and increase ypur lvl?
Thx all

DAoC might just be the best solo game out there. And let me explain to you why.
If you have the Catacombs expansion there are places called TD (task dungeons) and basically how this works is near main citys there are caves that are instanced. You talk to the Task master and he give you a task like these
kill 11 of these
kill the boss
Clear the caves (kill everything)
Then you goto the dungeon (which is a short distance away and infront of it theres uasully hordes of people so you can find TD groups in 10 secs) When you zone into the dungeon every mob (enemy) in it is equal to your level. So their not to hard, but not to easy. If you group with people before you enter the TD then the enemys will be calculated to be as strong as you group.
hope you understand that.
As for quests, most quests (like 92%) can be completed by yourself. The only ones youll need help with are epic quests, which you have complete 75% by yourself, then group with people to get it done.
RvR (daoc's main feature) is not so solo friendly though, unless your a stealther (DONT BE A STEALTHER, CRAPPY CLASS NO ONE WILL **EVER** GROUP WITH YOU) But because RvR is so group friendly you can find a group in no time.
The battle grounds (Which is RvR for everyone who is not yet lvl 50) are very soloable. And if you want a group just type /who (name of battlegrounds) then a list of everyone in the BG will appear and you can just '/send (name of person) gimme and invite plz' and they'll hook you up.
Need any more info just ask.
The only other information that you'll need is if your gunna play, pick the Lamorak server to play on! The community is so close and tight its unbelieveable! people may tell you gareth is where its at but there liars! Gareths is for people who cant handle how great lamorak really is! trust me PLAY LAMORAK! Its the best desision you'll ever make. If you choose to play In hibernia lamorak /send leaton and ill hook you up!
Guild Wars - Rorick Aurlith E/Mo pumped up with the best armor and weapon, has all his skills, and runes. PvP King!
Dark Age of Camelot - Leaton 50 Vampiir - Lamorak - Guild: Magic and Mayhem!
Bling is in generall correct. However, be crarefull what class you pick. Any class can solo, but some do it a lot faster than others and some are much more situaltional soloers than others. For example a Vampyre is a solo god, tearing through mobs with next to zero downtime. You could say the same about a Necromancer that's specced right. A Bolt Caster (by that I mean a real bolter like a Void Eldy or a Fire Wizard) is a situtional soloer. They are fantastic outdoors or in particular instances wher they don't have LoS issues. But they have trouble in the majority of instances. And a healer is a pretty "meh" soloer regardless. They don't have the DPS they need to solo effeciently.
In general (but not always) newer classes solo better (i.e., the ones from SIs and Catacombs). However this isn't always true. For example, I think Champion is a pretty fun well rounded solo character, and they are from launch.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
I play a stealther and I have no trouble getting a group. My stealther is a Scout and since I was grouping in the level 11-20 TD I have always gotten groups and has never been a problem for me. I'm level 48 now and almost 49, and as soon as I log in I get invites immediately at the level 41-50 TD called Sundered Tombs. Stealther classes IMO are the most fun in RvR as well.
When I was in Thid and Molvik I would sit on a tower stealthed and when a hib/mid would run by I'll draw up a crit shot and bam they'd either die in 1 shot or they'd be at 25% health or lower. Tanks I can usually get to 50% or lower but because of my range I'd kill them in the next 1-2 shots. Having a blast with a Scout.
Also when you are in the battle grounds (BG's) all you have to do is do a /who <insert BG zone name> and look for the name with a <CG> on the end of it. Then type /cg join <player name> and you will join the chat group for that BG, and you will be able to chat with all players in the BG who have joined it. Usually it's almost everyone. MUCH easier to find a group that way.
As far as what server to play, that you will have to choose. But I can tell you one piece of advice. Community makes or breaks games and having a large community with more people to play with and against, would be better. Therefore I would start on Gareth. It has the largest community on the classic servers. Not talking down about Lamo, but the population just isn't there like it is on Gareth.
Good luck!
Joe
Ok there is a bit of a misconception here:
DAOC is not a 'solo' game. It's certainly friendly to solo players and you CAN solo all the way to 50 and certain classes CAN solo in RVR (Stealthers primarily) but at it's core it's a group oriented game. You can level up solo, and even get some decent gear from drops and gathering arulite and buying them on the markets. But some content absolutely will require you to be in a group. It's not a game that you can solo "everything" in. You can solo a lot of it. Even possibly as much as half the content at any given level. Even at 50 there are things you can solo for fun, champ xp and items.
So, is DAOC solo friendly? Yes, but it's not a solo game by any stretch. Unless you are a stealth class you will find it VERY difficult to solo in RVR, certainly it will be very frustrating even for a veteran player. Stealth classes even have some difficulties playing solo but they're the best suited for it. Solo playin RVR requires guile, lots of skill but most importantly, patience. You aren't going to be able to try to jump a full group and expect to survive. You may kill 1 person but you will likely die in the process. Even stealthers don't always survive to get away, though their chances are the best Especially in real RVR. In the BG's you can sometimes solo quite effectively with numerous classes but, again, stealthers are always best at solo PVP in DAOC because they have the means to move about without being seen.
So, in summary, yes DAOC is an MMORPG that solo players can (and often do) enjoy. But don't expect to be able to solo group oriented content, because that just aint in the cards.

The one thing in your post I think people are missing is that you are looking for a game SIMILAR to WoW. DAoC is NOT similar to WoW at all. On the good side, the community is infinately better in DAoC. However, the soloability of the game really varies. The guy mentioning TDs may be right that you can just go in there are grind your way up, but if you played WoW you're going to be so bored with that it will drive you to tears. WoW has a myriad of varied quests to do, most of which send you to different areas and are much simpler to navigate. What I mean is, kill tasks for example, where you get a quest to go kill a particular creature, are a pain because it doesn't tell you where on the vast map you can locate your target. Not to mention your target may very well be on the other end of the map from where you got the quest.
Secondly, the game really is more structured to play in groups. Exp is ALOT faster if you group. You can kill creatures much higher level if you have more players. And it's just boring to solo in DAoC, and can become very repetitive. The grind is nothing like a game like Lineage 2, or FFXI, but you will find yourself fighting the same things over and over again, especially considering most players spend all their time just doing those TDs over and over again.
So, if you're looking for something like WoW, this game isn't it. A closer game to try might be EQ2, but that's a little bit of a stretch too and it requires alot of system power to run efficiently.
Thank you very much for your advices,
I just want to say that i was looking to a friendly solo game (and wow is), not a similar game to wow, sorry if I don´t make myself clear.
Agree completely. Community in DAOC is one of the best out there, period.
Not true at all. Kill tasks give you a direction to go and, generally, the direction is fairly accurate. The direction given is not, however, necessarily the direction to the CLOSEST mob of that type. DAOC doesn't hand-feed you like WOW does. When doing kill tasks it's assumed that you know the general area you're getting tasks from. Further you will always want to get tasks from a guard in an area where critters near your level spawn. Otherwise you will have a VERY long walk ahead of you.
As to varied and myriad quests? Have you done any of the quests in DAOC? Especially the catacombs, champion and other types? I seriously doubt that you have because DAOC's quests are deeper, better written, more varied and a lot more fun, in my experience, than in WoW. Many of the quests teach you a ton about the lore of the world. Which is very cool, imo.
True of every MMORPG. But in DAOC it is very easy to solo. Numerous people solo all the way to 50. I agree that grouping is more fun though. But solo play is very do-able. Sounds to me like you haven't played in quite some time. XP Solo is not all that bad, it's nearly as fast as in some groups. In a WELL managed group you will get much more xp than solo. But in a poor group I've found that 9 times out of 10 I would have gotten twice the xp in the same time if I had solo'd.
Erm... in WoW you wind up doing the same things over and over also. In DAOC there is no need to kill the same things over and over. That's something people do by choice. You can solo to 50 in DAOC and never kill in the same area twice if you take the time to explore. And as to a level grind? You can hit 50 in approximately 4-5 days of /played time. Not much longer than in WoW TBH. Though level 50 is FAR from the end of the growth of your character. In fact... it's only just the beginning
Actually EQ2 is so similar to WoW it's not even funny. The only difference is that EQ2 has many things that WoW does not.
All that said the key is that yes, DAOC is NOTHING like WoW. It's not a 'hand the game to you on a silver platter' game. If you're looking to just jump in and feel right at home, you won't. But if you play the trial and take the time to learn the game I think you'll find it's one of the best games you've ever tried. DAOC has so much to offer it's mind boggling. About the only weakness in DAOC is it's crafting system. And even that 'weakness' is worlds better than WoW's crafting system.
If I had to compare the two games I would pick DAOC every single time over WoW.
My ranking of the three games would be this:
DAOC > EQ2 >= WoW
