PnP RPG to MMORPG opinions

BlitzenBlitzen Member UncommonPosts: 7

Forgive me if a similar thread exists.

My question is this, given the choice of a pen and paper RPG to be made into a MMORPG, which PnP IP would you like to see translated into the MMO format?

Here are some links to the games listed in the poll for those of you unfamilar with them.

    Holy crap Rifts.

    FFS. Best. Setting. Ever.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

I think the ruleset for GURPS could be used as a good backbone for a MMO.

    Also CarWars could be fun.

    Both by Steven Jackson.

    Note:

I wouldn't dream to heavy about ShadowRun.  Micro$oft owns the rights to it and has been sitting on it for ages.  Unless they decide to do it a Shadowrun MMO can't happen.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

    Still in: A couple Betas

I still don't get the love for Shadowrun, or RIFTS for that matter. Both horribly unbalanced and inconsistent gonzo systems and settings.

I'd go for Heavy Gear, Jovian Chronicles, Exalted, Traveller, Iron Kingdoms, Cyberpunk... something more along those lines.

Of the ones you list, only L5R really seems feasible to me as an MMO.

Shadowrun...very interesting setting with lots of possibilities.
But as Elnator explained - aint gonna happen because of Microsoft sitting on the license..

I'd love to see something like DnDO - a huge city wth instanced missions and some options for consensual PvP and/or special PvP-Missions.
Probably starting with Seattle and adding more areas with later patches

    Call of Cthulhu!

When people will pay others to play a game for them it might be a sign the game isn't all that fun.

I'm kinda surprised that no one has mentioned Paranoia. Not only does this game translate EXTREMELY well to a computer game (each player gets six clones), but it's satire also has particular bite in post 9/11 America!

Happiness is mandatory citizen. Are you happy?

Your good friend the computr would like you to go on a dangerous and life threating mission of marginal importance.

You are not cleared for that information citizen. Please report to the nearest termination facility, at your convenience.

See? Loads of fun with that one. I also like the idea of a Traveler MMO since it has such a rich background.
