I was in beta and enjoyed it. I'm on my 10-day pre-order and I don't really want to play because my character will be erased tomorrow. So I just use the pre-order to login and look at stuff.

    so...

I played euro-beta DDO. Im still playing it. lvl cap is low but i preorder it.

I wont call it full MMORPG. Most like RPG-Party Online. Its really fun. Its not click and play. You gotta move WASD and hit with mouse. Move, avoid attacks, defend.

I wen't for "No but I liked it"

DDO looks nice and plays well.

Unfortunatly I feel it will garner a hard core following and then rapidly sink into the swamp of geek fandom.

I love MMORPG's and hate to see any of them fail, but, DDO is a mediocre cash in on the D&D licence which will make a few people some money and then die the death.

Shame - it could of been big ::::16::

I did the pre-order thing, and am going to play for a couple months before I really decide.  I didn't feel right passing judgement based on a Beta, altho I imagine that it's pretty close to the final release version.  The game is growing on me but there is something missing and I just can't put my finger on it.

Is it bad that roughly 65% of people on this board who played the beta wont be purchasing the game?

Nah, not really. From what I can tell, mmorpg.com caters to hardcore players. DDO is not like most MMORPGs (In fact, I'd suggest it's different enough that calling it a MMORPG is almost false advertising). I adore it, but the population of this website is more prone to liking Vanguard than DDO.

unless you want the poll trashed I suggest you add a "I dunno but I wanna see what the results are" option otherwise people are going to blind vote just to see the numbers.

Well, we might be more hardcore here, and more experienced in MMOs and.. hence.. have higher demands on the games we choose. Still... Even for a new MMO player to this genre:

DDO is a copy of Guild Wars. Almost exact copy, the whole gameplay. Making the character is different, but that is 15 minutes out of months of playtime. The rest is Guild Wars.

    Guild Wars is Free

DDO is 15 bucks a month...

Somewhere there.. even new players must see the problem.

Been playing a ranger for a bit, doing a quest to some alchemists lair and i'm stuck, with no ability to heal and no healing potions to be found no idea how to make it trough the quest.

Game looks nice but feels tiny for an online game, have worked nicely so far no crashes and lag seems low, but right now i rather just keep on playing Baldurs gate II with expansion.

My vote was will buy but I like the game not love it.  This game is not going to appeal at all to people that like WoW or traditional MMORPG's.    Either people love or hate this game because it breaks that mold.   I myself was disappointed at first with the lack of a mmorpg world to explore and other things to do besides quest.    But that is what I plan on doing in either the WoW xpac or LoTRO.    I think Turbine was probably thinking the same thing when making the design decisions for DDO and LoTRO.    If DDO and LoTRO are both offered in some sort of package deal like SOE does with their station pass, both games really compliment each other.   If I was offered a package of 19.99 or something close for both games I would be more then happy to pay for that.  I am assuming of course that LoTRO is more of a traditional MMORPG game with crafting and exploration.   DDO offers more of an instant gratification experience with logging in running a quest or two and logging out with minimal downtime.    I think Turbine needs to do a better job of marketing this game because alot of people may buy this game expecting WoW in a D&D skin and be very disappointed.

That would be an interesting marketing campaign:

"You know the worlds most succesful MMO? Think again, this is nothing like it, this is DD Online!"

It should be thrown with great force"

Who are the 3.6% who voted they disliked it but are going to buy it?

I'm a big D&D fan and I tried the beta for a couple months. And I would never buy this game as it stands now, nor would I reccomend it to anyone who is seeking a MMO

The plain and simple truth is Turbine instanced everything, This wouldn't be so bad if it had a crafting system, and a much broader type of instance. For example look at what GW did.

GW instances everything also, but the big difference is that GW instanced major areas with a ton of content, and many different quests in each.

DDO instanced everything also, but DDO has each and every tiny quest in it's own instance. It leads to a sense of stuffyness that dosen't belong in D&D(And yes it isn't D&D it's DDO) But it still should have that wide open feeling of being able to do anything.

Turbine Majorly screwed up with the concept of this game. they should go back to the drawing board before they give both WotC and D&D a bad name.

I don't like crafting and usually try to avoid crafting. I like to jump on and play an MMO for the combat fun. That's just me.

GW was actually pretty cool, but after beta I kind of felt I had my fill of GW. It also seemed like I was pigeon-holed into a class with everyone else. Yes, you choose your abilities/spells before the instance and that makes you special, but I didn't see that as enough specialty. However it is quite strategic and I did apreciate it for that. Again, I just didn't get GW after beta because I didn't feel like I enjoyed it any longer.

I agree that they need to have some non-dungeon instances that are open like GW did. Those types of instances are perfectly doable. I guess Turbine focused on Dungeons & Dragons a bit much. Maybe they'll add to it later on. Although you don't just take a quest and run to the instance to complete it and you're done. Often times there are additional quests that you can pickup in the dungeon.

On your last point, I have more optimism about their final product. I feel the game is nice the way it is and I feel it certainly has a LOT of room to grow. It does feel a bit confined being only a 10 level game, but I'm just playing it for the fun and I don't care to be competative so this is truly the game for me right now.

    so...
