This game is NOTHING like diablo you stupid child. Im surprised God hasn't marched down from Heaven and smacked the shit outta you yet! Its a ALL INSTANCE AND GROUPING game! YOU DON'T PLAY DDO TO SOLO! Why don't you go play the boardgame and see how easy it is to solo! And if it gets to damn hard, you can get your stupid cat to play with you and your imaginary boyfriend!

I've been playing DDO for several months now and decided after pre-ordering to cancel and I'll tell you why.

After Orien went down I hopped onto val, rolled up a new character and it didn't take long to realize I had absolutely no desire to play the game and logged out.

What caused this?  After all, I've been playing DDO almost every night for hours on end, solid since late October.  Well I'll tell you.. as much as there are things I like about this game, there's just too much missing right now.

To be honest, if I wasn't so starverd for an MMO that felt new (not another game with EQ's combat system) I probably wouldn't have lasted that long.  I do love the combat system in this game however, it is its one strong point in my opinion.  Well actually, one of two strong points.  The quests in this game are the most fun of any I've played so far.  Those are both pretty high praise, you might think thats enough.. and for a few months it was for me.

But then you run into the problems.  Mostly the one game design that says you need to run what quests there are (and the man in charge himself said this) over and over because they feel that you should master a dungeon and know it well before moving on.  This is thier excuse for not releasing with enough content.

To be honest, It really starts to kill the fun for me when I have to do the exact same quest/dungeon 20 times. (because lots of the quests in the game that are there give virtually no reward for your time so groups avoid them) just to progress.

Think its bad enough the first time?  Yeah, try leveling up an alt now and doing it all over again, the exact same quests over and over.  It just gets insanely boring.

So you have lack of content as one major issue.

Then there is the mutilation of the DnD rules and the huge gaping holes in what should be in a DnD game.  I don't mind when they make changes because it really is necessary when adapting a pencil and paper game over to an MMO format.  Those changes, like the spell system, etc. where fine and made sense.  Its the changes they made due to being lazy or not having enough time to do it right that really agrivate me.  Feat not working right?  Okay, we'll just take it out of the game instead of making it work... ugh.

There's lots of other issues too.  The character models are about a 2 or 3 year step back, there are broken spells, the animations aren't that great, the games emotes and socials are probably the weakest I've seen.  There are more bugs still then I care to even attempt to list.

This game just isn't done.  I may take a look at it again 3 or 4 months from now, but I honestly have my doubts that they'll be able to deliver DnD to an MMO well enough to make it feel like DnD.  At least, not this time.

    Excellent input Echostar.

The lack of content sure is a hell of a hendicap. Although I'm a little surprised that you did play since October, my impression was that the game will last no more than a month with its current content. I also found quite a few bugs in the game and one of them even prevented me from getting my quest reward.

I personally don't much care how close they are to DnD rules so any issue with that does not irk me.

It's nice to see a constructive post from someone who doesn't like the game, and for a valid reason.  I have said in more than a few posts that after a certain amount of time, content will become an issue, as it does w/ most games.  I see DDO's coming faster, since the game is based on one element, the "dungeon crawl". and it really doesn't have a crafting/pvp/exploration element to it.  the fact that it seems you've been playing regularly for about 3 months is pretty much the place that I come to w/ most of the MMOs that I play.  Either you've done everything, or the negatives start really getting on your nerves.  I call it the "Honeymoon Phase", and it's nearly impossible to get over unless you have a good guild, or friends you MMO with.

On the one hand, it's cool you lasted 3 months.  I was figuring maybe one for the game, like Burrek said.

Wow, what a well thought out and articulate response. I must say your cogent argument has forced me to reconsider my decision not to subscribe to DDO. I shall be transmitting my credit card information post haste!

    Well done, Sir. Well done.
