So what's the next "big" MMO slated to come out?

@Lamethrower: If by asian you're "asking are they asian made?" then yes; however the firs phantasy star mmo aka Phantasy Star Online came out with a global chat system (think ffxi's shortcut chat, PSO had it first) and the first PSO (The PSO on the Dreamcast) shipped with 6 different language options (English, German, French and Spanish to name some). Dreamcast US players also got the game shortly after the Japanese did, only 2 months... PSU JP was going to come out 6 months before the Fall slated US release but has since changed to a indefinite 2006 which may give US and EU players hope for a closer and/or simultaneous release.

If you're asking "is it asian themed or are the models all asian/anime looking?" Then somewhat to both questions. While some of the planets like Neudiaz (the Newman Planet) tend to have a traditional Japanese look to them, there are other planets and places (like Moatoob Parum and the Guardians Colony) each have there distinctive styles so even if you don't like Asian themed places you wont see too much of them (although I personally like the asian backdrops.). The customization in PSU is top notch too, so you dont have to worry about everyone looking the same or all the characters looking "animeish". You can adjust skin color, eye color, eye size, eye shape, mouth shape, mouth size, ear shape, ear size, eyebrow color, eyebrow size, hair style, hair color, voice type, character height and width, cloth type (accessories such as glasses/earings, shoes, pants, shirt, gloves, jacket, and undergarments too haha), tatoos/scars (rumored, not confirmed), and for the ladies breast size shape and firmness. Yep, SEGA went all out on customization, so you wont find too many clones.

Lastly, if you're asking "is it asian only/will I have to play the game in Japanese etc?" then no. PSU is already planned to come to US and EU its just a matter of when. Also, its unconfirmed whether the US and EU servers will be linked and if so both of them linked to JP so I'm not sure if youll be playing with asians but PSO had translated text you can use so Im sure PSU will take that a step further, afterall PSO was the pioneer in global mmo gaming (there advertisement was "Scream "Help!" in 7 different languages").

I know you didn't ask about Ragnarok Online 2 but in case you wanted to know, its still TBA for beta.. was suppost to come in February, but theres no word yet. There's alot less info and less to translate for RO2 than PSU.

Just on the border of your waking mind
    There lies another time
Where darkness and light are one,
And as you tread the halls of sanity,
You feel so glad to be unable to go beyond.
I have a message from another time...

The crafting, and diplomacy spheres will be very soloable though, and as mentioned will have equal content as adventuring.

    LOL

He left WoW because it is to Raid centered.  And you dare recommend Vanguard?  You realize that by using Brad's logic,  WoW have prolly 30% solo content, 65% grouping content and raiding is merely 5%, yet it is in the END GAME and thereby extremely problematic.  Changing the numbers and putting more into raiding is not going to make that grouper/soloer happy...

Especially that this player say:  He doesn't like forced grouping!  He consider WoW to be force grouping (he is right, but that would be a topic on itself) while Brad will consider that a game like WoW is WAY to much solo oriented and not enforcing grouping at all.

Those Vanguards fanbois deserve some bashing, and I intend to provide it!  image

Lol, we deserve bashing?? REALLY... last i checked you were the little troll doing nothing but running around on the Vanguard forums and bashing the game for no reason.

And no, no matter how many times you say it, it wont make it so.... THERE IS NO FORCED RAIDING IN VANGUARD.. PERIOD. Maybe if you would check up on this game for once and actually read the faq through for once, you'd realize what a narrow sighted moron you are(im sorry but it's true, if this is too offensive in the eyes of a moderator, ill edit it out)... oh wait, i guess you don't have the patience to do even that, you'd rather just troll mindlessly right? My bad.

Sigil is implementing many ways to acquire the best items apart from raiding. Will raiding have some of the best items at the end game? yes. Do you have to raid to get equally good items? NO YOU DO NOT. By grouping you will be getting enough stuff to equip yourself nicely, and have access to almost all of the content, and be able to enjoy the game. And then you can make some money and buy the best items off raiders(there is no soulbound items) or crafters. The fact is that if you look at the amount of time raiders put in to getting items and compare it to how much time it would take a grouper to get enough resources to trade or buy that item, then you'll probably see it mostly equal if not just a bit more(for groupers). The fact is that if you want those items that a raider has, don't expect to get it in less time than he got it. That would not be fair. And its funny because your sig is exactly the type of itemization that will be in Vanguard. For group content, your not going to need the best raid gear, but for raid mobs, you'll need some more powerful items. That being said you will still be able to get raid quality items as a non raider, it may just take slightly longer, but then when you do get it, it will be more than enough against the group mobs or solo mobs you fight.

Also, if that is the only way you feel any achievement in these games, by getting the "best" items, i'll say that you should not play this game Ano. It will be for people who are skillful and have a bit more patience. if ALL you do is solo then your skills will be hard pressed against some of the better, more dedicated players. In other words it will not be like WOW where you can reach max lev no mater what, its just a matter of time. No it will take skill i assure you. I don't see though why you have to whine if you don't like raiding and grouping. Just because you don't have the patience for it or maybe you don't want to commit to the game? i don't know but either way, those are your fault, not the games so stop bashing. If you want the best itme in a game like Vanguard, be prepared to use your head and be patient, this isn't going to be an instant gratification game where you get something for just sitting on your ass and not doing anything. It will NEVER be a game like that so stop whining cus' its not going to change. You can also craft the best items if you like, or with a rare drop hire a good crafter to make you some really nice gear. Even if you play solo the whole game, you'll still be able to get the good stuff but understandably it will take a lot longer.

Also Vanguard is making a few changes to traditional raiding and will hopefully make it a lot better. Again take some time and read the FAQ completely (the silky venom one) if you want to bash the game. Otherwise your bashing rights are suspended for now, and i'll just ignore youimage.

And yes i know that he said that he did not like forced grouping in WoW, and thats exactly why i told him the complete truth and let him make up his mind if that is acceptable to him. But again there are all three kinds of content and playing solo is an option (if not the most effective way). Look at all the other points, they seem to fit him perfectly. No game will offer him all that with such a minimal negative (if thats what you want to call it).

For me it'll be Darkfall, the type of MMO we haven’t seen since ’97-98 UO.

You know, there are going to be some 40-50 MMO's coming out before the end of 2006. At least one of them HAS to not suck. That one that hits the jackpot in the industry will be the next big one. It's too early to tell sure-fire what one will nail the bullseye, but quite a few are starting to fall behind.

Darkfall, DnL, Vanguard, and Hero's Journey seem to be front runners from the little info I can see from the surface of the game-development lake, but that can change in the blink of an eye. If you want my advice, dig in and hold out on non-mmo's until it is certain which one will blast the market.

Im not anti social, im just pro solitude!

The ones I have my eye on are Vanguard and Pirates of the Burning Sea. I'm there on day one of both of these games. I hope one or both will live up to my expectations. image

I forgot to mention that after following Vanguard since basically the first rumours came out. I am getting more and more hopful about how its gonna end up.

I REALLY like the way BmQ is trying to head back towards "traditional" MMO values of slow leveling, corpse runs, high death penaltys and a huge world with very few means of quick travel.

Its almost the exact opposite direction every MMO has taken for the past few years and I think its GOOD. I am one of the "weirdos" that enjoys having to hike for 30-45mins or more to get to a dungeon and having an adventure along the way, or not making it at all.

I look back with fondness to old school UO and EQ where just getting from Brit to Shame was a freakin task if you didnt have gate and trecking from Qeynos to Freeport as a noob which took a good 1-2 hours depending on how many times you died. It was challenging and exciting.

I hope Sigil stay on the design track they are on and dont weaken to the whiners that will call for gates everywhere and recall spells and the like..... There is always WoW for those folks.
