I know this game backwards. I have 2 kitted out 60's a priest & a warrior, but I've never played a 60 DPS class.
Now I know that your job is to do as much DPS as possible on the mark WITHOUT pulling him off the MA, but how do you balance that?
How do you draw the line at too much damage? Is it mostly 'when he starts hitting me I've gone too far, so use an agro dumping ability'?
Nick
The race doesn't always go to the swiftest, nor the battle to the strongest, but that's the way to bet.

Hi, let the warrior or pet get some agro up and start laying down a few DOT's then let rip with DPS you shouldn't pull any agro.
I usually go with that let tank get 1st few hits in, lay down 2 dots then let rip with DPS.
I'm a mage so I know all about pulling agro cause my opening shot hits for 2k...
When the warrior yells at you to stop pulling agro cause he is gettign tired o chasign mobs....you wetn too far. Or when the priest finally starts letting you die even though you know he had more than enough time to heal you ,lol.
Seriously though, what the aobve poster said. Just let the MT get a few hits in and gain agro before you let loose. Better safe than sorry. And soemtimes shit happens.....2k crits tend to piss a mob off.
after a long time of tanking and having the same mage friend stance with me we worked out this
if dps'ers dont use:
- aoe affects
- instant cast
and a main tank uses"
- taunt
- sunder
- shield bash
then its almost impossible to take aggro off the main tank
Yep. You need to balance your attacks the point where you do as much damage as possible without ripping aggro from the main tank. It helps to let the main tank build up aggro for a few seconds. If a paladin is in the group, ask for Blessing of Salvation -- not Blessing of Might or Wisdom as is often requested by DPS classes.
The most ideal situation for a DPS class is to have a Protection Warrior and a Paladin in the group. The reason is that Protection Warriors in defensive stance are the best tanks, while the paladin can reduce your threat with Blessing of Salvation and even dump your aggro using Blessing of Protection. With these two classes you wll be able to do the most amount of damage safely.
If you want to do lots of AOE then again, it is best to have a paladin in the group. You get your aggro dumped, and 10 seconds worth of invulnerability. The second best thing to have is a priest to shield you and heal. A warrior without his aoe taunt ready will not be able to help you a, so you need to be especially careful without it.
