Wow, I bet SOE is just ecstatic that the gaming community has already stated they'll destroy this ICON as well. Gotta love the fact that they just don't get it. SOE is not a worldwide leader in Online Gaming anymore, they are a JOKE, nay... THE JOKE! Only SOE can take a sure fire hit franchise liek Star Wars and make it fail. So how do they rectify said problem? They take another sure fire franchise, and everyone it already bad mouthing them for it.
There's an old saying that any press is good press. Well I am thinking that this is not the case for SOE. Not to mention that SWG had ZERO competition for the style of game it was. There's a couple thousand swords and sorcery games, but Sci-Fi was a small pond. By having the name Star Wars, they were instantly the biggest fish.
DC's MMORPG will either be the 2nd or 3rd game of that type, depending on how fast Marvel comes out. That, and CoH/V have ALREADY created the gold standard for superhero games. That's an uphill battle to say the least.

CoV is just about as wicked as they come, but there is no loot or gear (!!!) which for a loot whore like myself is a major ice-cube in the drawers as it were. When the DC and Marvel games come out I just hope they have loot and gear and/or crafting.
Player appearance customization is awesome, but mostly when you have to earn it by actually playing, not sitting at character create for hours.
Yeah everything that has been touched by SOE has turned to piles of crap. I am avoiding pretty much anything they put out like the plague now. I was always a Marvel comic reader more than a DC reader. But, unfortunately it does not look like the Marvel MMO has much promise in development. Now SOE has the DC MMO. I guess the Korean COH will be the outlet for most gamers in the superhero department. I was looking forward to both of those releases too, this is kind of a letdown.

Yes that is someting to ponder isn't it? How on earth do you take something with an almost fanatical cult following, that should be a complete hit from day one, and turn people off to it completely? By crapping on gamers and the games that they like to play. While we are at it we'll also completely throw the classes out of whack so that there are only 3 classes you can play if you don't want a gimped class. Then, we'll make getting to Jedi a mindless grind and nothing more so we have 800,000 Jedis per server.
I liked SWG when it came out and I even liked it after they completely gimped the rifleman and screwed over quests. However, SOE couldn't stop there they kept going until the game became COMPLETELY unfun. This game had player owned cities and bases, a cool PvP system with rewards, the cool Star Wars setting, one of the best character customization screens, and loads of potential. It could have had the vast player created world of UO and the fun of PvP DAoC has, rolled into one game, and on steroids. The fact they screwed this up is proof SOE cannot run an MMORPG. DC signed it's own death with this.
Wouldn't it be nice if the devolpers of a game stuck with the original intention of a game and told the whiners to %^&* off and play a different game if they didn't like the way they ran theirs? Maybe one day a game company will develop a great game and grow a set of balls and keep it that way instead of caving into people's demands. These are people whom, mind you, will never be happy anyhow. maybe one day.... naahhhh.
