Potion Spamming Discussion

thirdechelonthirdechelon Member Posts: 110

Has anyone here played Ragnarok Online?. Quite a few ppl have posted about hating pot spamming, and RO had alittle bit of pot spamming in it.

RO had pot spamming in it cause characters are more then capable of tearing apart ppl in just a few seconds. Hunters would literally kill off rogues and assasins in 2 seconds, The toughest tanks would go down in <10 seconds. they offset this by allowing pot spamming and low-delay healing.

it may sound crap, but man pvp was fun, i had a lvl 96 Blacksmith and hunters would try to get as far away as possible and start spamming theyre 1500+ damage attack(2 per second to my 8000hp). i had to spam pots like crazy to charge him down and stay alive, then i aoe stun him(whahahahahah time to die biatch) SMACK!! 3500Damage!!3500Damage!! he dies.... ;)

10seconds of pvp fun, 40 pots gone :)

but anyways from my previous experience pot spamming was ok.

    yay! another Ragnarok online fan!

haha yeah, WoE in RO *drool*

potion spamming makes the game a lot more intresting. it requires people to actually work together to get someone down. its a shame so many people fail to realise this and keep trying to go 1 vs 1 pvp.

lol since you like L2 so much Belis... 5 archer shows up, shots you all at the same time your dead, took them 1 second, that was fun PVP.  With pot spamming, 5 archers shots you at the same time, your dead or maybe not I got a lucky hit and got a potion in to keep me alive ><.  I charge them while still using my potions to keep me alive and manage to get one but darn I didnt manage to last long enought with pots I got stun and died but at least the fight lasted 45 seconds this time.

unless you got godly HP on every darn char in the game to make the fight last a long time, instead of the scenario of die in 1 second and run back to the fight that take 10 minutes and die again in 1 sec.  I think that potion spamming does offer a good solution to make fight last longuer but still with an open window to die easily because the opponent manage to get a stun in and lock me from using that darn potion.    What the use of PvP is you only got time to shot one nuke before you die?

lol, kk, i know u guys still dont accept pot spamming >_< but its the game mechanics that made it like it is.

in War of the Emperium,  a castle seige pvp. in the defense there is a strategy called pre-casting which involved 3-5 wizards continuosly casting aoe spells on the entrance, survival time for the tanks where around 4seconds.  the only way to breech the defense is to break the precasts and run to the objective, to do this tanks would carry 100-200 potions while everyone else carried ~20-40. if pots had 3second cool downs castles would never be taken.

the whole game would have to be slowed down. cool downs on all skills and healing, RO was fast paced.

Has anyone ever tried playing Turf Wars. I havent played RFO yet, but TW sounds very similar. It's a free fantasy style game where people join in tribes and battle in PVP with other tribes to gain control over turfs, so that they can "mine" them. Anyway, it's originally a korean game I think. The point is that pot spamming is one of the things thats beginning to turn me off the game. I'd prefer to free my hands up to do other things rather than repeatedly hammer on my pot pile. It seems to me the pot system actually detracts from skill, and makes it almost impossible for a lower level player to take out a higher one, as he simply has a far larger stockpile as a result of far larger funds. What does everyone think? Pot's could surely be made redundant by tweaking characters base HPs. Make it more difficult to be one-hit killed.

well thats the thing! theres 3 main points that decide pvp battle:

1 Char Level (skills, stat points)
    2 Char Resources (equipment, potions)
3 Player Skill (reaction speed, strategy)

each game emphasises one of the 3 above more then the others.

    my opinion(games i've played):
Ragnarok Online -> 2 <- Heavy emphasis on equipement cards
World of Warcraft -> 1 first then 3 and a tiny bit of 2 <- higher lvls alway win, and technique is important to win battles.
EVE Online -> 2 <- biggest baddest ships pwn all

its difficult to make mmorpgs that entirely revolve around a players skill.

pot spammers have to work hard to get the resources to spend on pots(in RO they arent cheap).

if u wanna play games entirely based on your skill, go play Battlefield 2 Online or something.

You've obviously never played EVE for any appreciable amount of time.

Agreed, there's not many games out there that have really pinned down a skill based combat system, whereby "real experience" i.e how long you've played the game, counts, as much, is not more than equipment and resources. In Truf Wars, unfortunately pots are quite cheap, and certain classes have autolock so their hands are freed, while long range classes have to run and hit due to low defense, and can't autolockl. This means they can't pot spam...things like this can really ruin a game.
