The PVP IS excellent, dont listen to Sin316 he is nothing but a biased flamer who has permantly bashed RF since it went beta. His posts in most cases are dishonest, to try and turn people against RF for some reason. Ignore him at all costs he is just a basher.

From what i've seen and read, the PVP in this game is amazing, but it's more like the zerg assists each others into taking one target only to make things faster.
well i tell you what, it's not the fault of the game, it's how the players play it, if i was to make a PVP game, i would make a code that doesn't allow any players to engage in a more than 5 VS 5 battle, as in if 1 person is getting attacked by 5, no 6th is allowed to attack that 1 person.
This game is designed specifically for large scale race vs race wars. No 1v1 or 8v8 crap that ruined the community in DAoC, this game made small scale PvP (when the sides are balanced) nearly impossible. I'm not a huge fan of the potion system, but I like the effect that it has of keeping the game focused on a racial war instead of small scale PvP.
Sin316 was not just flaming the game. His complain was a valid one. Even people who love the game have said that the PvE is practically pointless because it's nothing more than a grind to get into the PvP. If you want to refute his claims by offer some qualities of the game that deny this, then feel free. For if anything else, you're being a fanboi more than he is being a flamer. As for the question posted by the OP, while the game does not "require" PvP, it's certainly the focus and if you're only interested in PvE or mostly that, then stay away.

Excuse me, but maybe you should try reading previous posts from Sin and the way he has tried to flame pretty much every post i have made in the past in some way. He has never given a resonable opinion, all he does is state false facts then bash the game and anyone who sticks up for it (with facts) some more. Not once have i tried to put myself above anyone. Honestly read some of his older posts on this forum and if you still stick up for him then you most definatly have problems.

I am also interested in trying out this game but I don't see the criticism I'm reading here as really valid.... what is the "real" reason most people are harsh on this game or is this just another case of L2 hate syndrome?

That is a common military tactic. The more people that shoot at something, the more likely it is you will destroy it. From what I've read this game is based on large scale combat isn't it? As an ex-tank crewman, this is a completely valid form of attack. Although I would agree, it would stink to be on the receiving end.

As opposed to what? All PvE is a grind. Without a story its just killing things to advance a skill or level. You can't honestly say WoW's kill task are any different then L2's can you? They are both simplistic task to keep you busy. WoW has more weeee. Killing 10 mobs for a shiny reward is not exactly "epic" questing. Saving the world, defeating the bad guy and getting the girl (or guy) is....something no MMORPG is currently able to do.
on the other side pvp is as crappy as pve ... hell i wont lie to you , this game sux. period. stay away.

Well.....if you need to PvE to get to another point (PvP) then the PvE is not pointless, is it? That is the same case in WoW, DAoC and GW plus just about every other game.
So aside from that.....are there any real issues with this game? Is it incomplete, unstable or something? I'm really leery of trying it out but I can't find any "real" objections to it.
PvE is the meat of any MMORPG. It's the gameplay that takes a front seat. If all you want to do is PvP, then go for Planetside or Lineage 2, and I suppose you can just lump RFO right in there with them. I think they should have just completely eliminated PvE from the game entirely. Then people could just get right into the PvP without the formality of having to play the game.
And you can't just say that PvE is always just there to waste time while you get into the PvP. Not everyone is all about making other people suffer to make themselves feel good. Personally, I think all the people interested so much in PvP are macho chovenistic pigs who pride themselves in getting off to other people's misery. It makes you feel good because you think you're "better" than someone else, because in real life you find yourself to be inadiquate.
PvE, grouping, exploring and creating something are important to most mature players, and if all you want is shoot-em-up gameplay then go play one of the many war sims and cap yourself some vietnamese or whatever it is you sadists do for fun.

I have a better idea, we won't go play shoot-em-up gameplay games, we go play RF Online since the game is made for us really, when you play football (soccer for the USA people) do you play only to feel better then the other team or do you play for fun? its the same with pvp mmo's, we play pvp because we like to compete with other people. not because we OMGZWTFZPWNZOR! them.
the PVE really isn't as bad as you say. sure it isn't like WoW or EQ2 , its very similair to Lineage 2. just beat up mobs. I know you have a hard time understanding it, but this type of gameplay can be very addicting. it doesn't have any downtime and the action is fast. once again, I will not say the PvE is a pearl but its not nearly as bad as you say it is. the pve missions (the missions, not the quests) are pretty fun and pit boss hunting are like good old Ragnarok Online's MVP hunts, and their fun.
anyway, you have to hurry, more topics in this section are apearing everyday and you havent bashed RF in all of them yet!

The PvE grind to be able to effectively PvP is simple and straight to the point. PvP in this game actually makes sense and has its rewards..which it gives you a sense of accomplishment..
If you are a PvP'er then this game its for you. If you like to spend your time doing elaborate quests or like to spend your time Carebearing and coming to this forums complaining about this game..then go some where else.

I didn't say you didn't have a right to voice your opinion about the game, I think opinions are great. However you clearly attacked the people who play the game and not the game itself in your above statement.
Your point about the PvE is valid. Most games could do with this idea. Guild Wars, in fact, did give you the option to bypass the PvE content.
Im no "fanboy", I just want something concrete to consider before making a purchase and who better to ask then people who have played the game? At the risk of "telling you what to do", relax, its just a game. I probably won't try it right now, at least not until there is a better variety of vehicles and maybe access to space. You can't have Sci-Fi without Spaceships!

I defend the game because me and loads of other people are having fun and would like to have more people play the game with us. you on the other hand only try to scare people away from a good game just because you don't like it. your "noble cause" to save people 50 bucks really isn't apreciated .no, we won't make a statue of you.

Game may not have content like your typical mmo but i find it lot's of fun ans entertianing.
