I figured I might as well get some use with the 28 days left on this account so I set up a macro to spam players. The message of course was asking folks to cancel as SOE is unethical, immoral thieves, the rollback wont happen unless everyone quits, etc
Surprisingly I got several tells back letting me know they were planning on quitting soon. I asked if it had to do with prepaid, answer no.
Apparently many players, including one entire guild I ran across are fully aware of those emulators being made and plan on moving their once they are up and running.
I wont post any links here as this kind of stuff is illegal and I dont want mmorpg.com to get into trouble. Please dont post any info on them here.
I found this interesting though that many it appears are awaiting this. I wonder if such a move once SOE gets wind of it might actually help us get the rollback we want

Unfortunately any private pre-CU server is going to run into a lot of trouble, bandwith issues and database issues, because there's gonna be simply TOO MANY people trying to log in. Thats gonna be some good press for SOE: "Pirated server for SWG crashes, too many players moving from the official ones"
It's probably going to be summer at least before any workable emu is out, and there are already several groups planning to do servers. I am sure, given the intrest, that there will end up being at leat 2-3 good, solid, well supported (by their community) pre-cu servers that will manage to operate.
I intend to play on at least one of them. If they take off, and work well, I'd have no problem donating the $60/mo I currently pay $OE to the operators...
I also intend to build one myself to run on my LAN.
Well this is bloody good news IHMO, if they manage to get a decent pre-cu emu running then I'd feel at home again
Contrary to popular myth (mostly coming from software companies like SOE) it is not illegal at ALL to reverse engineer something. It'd be illegal to charge for access, and it'd be illegal to steal their code, but if someone RE's the server protocal so it will work with a LEGITIMATELY PURCHASED SWG client software, I can't see what Sony could do about it, see EA and UO...
About all SOE could do would be ban your live accounts for breaking their EULA, so if you post on emu server forums and want to keep playing live (for the 3-4 months it still has to live) use a different name...
Well, one I know of is in Slovenia. They have like ZERO copyright problems housing it there.
Now technically it IS illegal for US citizens to play... but then again, it is just as "illegal" for US citizens to use the offshore sportsbetting/casino sites too.
On top of that... you'd not technically be actually doing anything really illegal unless you BUY the game from them. Since they're providing the software for free.. it makes it even grayer.
So it is a really grey area. If they hosted it in the US, they'd be out of busness before you can say "poopfilled Krispy Creme".. but since it isn't....

Most of Europe has no laws against reverse-engineering software. Just do a search on Google for SWG Emulators and you will find there are currently many of them going up.
The customers are sick of waiting, sick of begging, and tired of being dealt with by a team of liars. The customers are now deserting SOE and LAE and setting up their own game communities. We are all losing out in this, but SOE and LAE are losing out because of simple stupidity.
The data is all around them. More people want pre-cu who are truly dedicated to this game, yet it is ignored out of sheer pride and greed. This will become a much talked about point in gaming history for a long time to come. The point when the gamers lashed out at the game developers and market managers to demend the game they bought into and push for a better state of the game.

PLZ PM ME anything at all on this possibility
What server were yuou on? Players to talk to?
DO NOT DO SO HERE
fire a PM
don't get too excited. the slovenian one seems most advanced and they're suggesting it won't be ready until summertime and there has to be a very reasonable chance that it won't end up happening at all.
as for the legality of it all, i've been to the USA and everything vaguely enjoyable is illegal there, so welcome to the Land of the Free, or the European Union as it's otherwise known.
If you report posts and whine about them being off-topic, you'd better take the rulebook from up your arsehole - it'll chafe terribly.
Stop jumping on the EMU bandwagon folks. Read-up before you believe what youre told Check out the section on Intellectual Property.
Also,
more info for the confused masses Slovenia is a member of Interpol, everything you need to know is on that site as to why this matters.
This emu rave is over before it begins, these people are not getting away with it, they arent "in a grey area" or anything like that. Its ILLEGAL, end of story people.
Also, Slovenia has its own, seperate departments to deal with copyright infrigement. These EMU people arent only dealing with SoE, they are also gonna get it up the ass from Lucas Entertainment, 20th Century Fox, and possibly Sony Records and maybe even the London Symphony Orchestra for the music.
Im not done yet, more fuel to the fire. The country is notorius for credit card fraud/theft. Think about that for a bit as well.

there is going to be more than just one emulator in slovenia. In fact one group working on it plan on NOT hosting any servers...just going to offer the software for free to let folks do with it as they please.
Do a search on emulators, there are hundreds if not thousands of them out there. You can play pretty much any console game and old pc games from the past. Once SWG has been emulated, it will be passed all over the web and SOE wont be able to stop it.
Sure in many cases only a few hundred people might be on one server. But eventually word will spread and one large server will pop up in a country outside SOE and LA's reach.
For every head SOE chops off, 2 more will appear. Look at Napster, the music industry spent millions to sue them into bankruptcy. And a year later everyone flocks over to Limewire and other sites similiar to it.
Intellectual proprerty?
Doesnt carry weight when it was a program already bought and if they dont make money on the venture then they should be fine. Of course, this will all be something for each nations laws to ponder and decide but that in itself could take years and by then how many different EMUs in how many nations could be up and running?
The amazing thing is that the customers in this case are lashing out with such determination that they are willing to take on the big gaming company, hollywood, and everyone else. Customers are tired of being sheep, tired of being used, and if SOE and LAE doesnt like it then they need to act like they care about the customer and good product developement.
Right now Im sure they are just hoping this will all go away but as soon as the EMUs get fully functional, this will probably become a public relations nightmare for both SOE and LAE.

You wouldn't happen to be doing this on Bria using "soesux" as your toons name? If not you have some company. Just got done reading a post titled " Devs or Mods pls kick this moron off Bria" on the official forums. Anyways /salute..
Yep thats me
I got a starter kit from a friend that had never used it. I made a toon on Bria and called him
SOESUX
I made a macro spam announcing options for players who want a pre-cu server. I also have been passing around a generic email to everyone I see about the history of lies from SOE.
So far Ive managed to get several to quit. Many agreed to forward that email around. And I got several new players to quit as well.
Iv been running the macro non-stop in Theed and Eisely as they are the only places Ive seen anyone.
I doubt youve "made" people quit by spamming a stupid macro. You might have influenced a few, more than likely just added fuel to the fire. The people you are refering to were already on the road to quitdom, or either very weak minded and easily swayed. Either way, more power to you, I guess.

the question i keep asking myself after all this time is
why bother forcing a rollback? i mean lets think for a minute, what if all of these efforts worked? would you go back to the game with the same people, lucasarts and soe running it?
i think whats happened to swg is a big indicator that we shouldnt play soe games.
i really think its just time to move on. find new games to play and give our money to companies that deserve it, work hard to keep their customers happy, and try to make fun entertainment for all of us.
even with a rollback, soe and lucasarts still wouldnt be anything like the company i described above. play city of heroes, wow, eve, daoc, or any other good mmog out there. you know there is quite a few with really great developers and ceo's running their companies.
i just dont see asking for a rollback making any sense. i know if they did rollback, i woudlnt give soe my credit card number again.
Games i'm playing right now...

This is very unlike me, im usually a stickler for the place for rules in a society, but I just dont seem to care whether or not an EMU is legal or not. I feel that SOE and LA so betrayed their customers, who bought one product and had it exchanged in the dead of night for another, that for me (at least) they gave up their right to any moral high ground.
I know that the law will disagree with me, but its not the first time in human history that the law was on the wrong side of morality. I say to hell with both companies...

Right-f**kin'-on. I'm not expecting to ever get the good old days back. All I can hope for is to watch SOE suffer for what they've done.
Keep up the good work.
