I'm neither spokes person nor some sort of employ of NCSoft or Blizzard,
I'm simply the voice in the wilderness preparing for the coming of well .... The Comings.
Here is 4 MMORPG titles of 2004, I think you should absolutely give a try when they come to the mass market called North America. Even if you've never been into this genre dubbed MMORPG or MMOG, it is imperative to try these 4 games if you are an amateur trying to have a glimse of future PC industry and gain a good aspiration where PC industry is heading.
1. Guild Wars
No one is hyping this game yet which by all mean is good sign (I no longer believe in hype), but it's a title trying to do "The Never Attempted Impossible". Just read the feature article about this game somewhere only few click away.
2. City Of Heroes
Read this http://www.coh.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30978
3. Lineage 2
Asian (S.Korean, Taiwanese, Japs, Chinese, etc) goes nutt with this game. Don't ask me why. Something about the notion of Group Gang War or Clan War trigger their mind very differently than they do to Westerners. It's serious subject of study how Asian's brain generally got wired. Yes. But also, changing the word around, this whole thiggy around "Asian having different taste than westerner" kind of sound plain silly to me. It almost sounds like someone are trying to categorically and deliberately deny the common concensus that we all share with each other when we see good game.
4. WoW
This is in my list because it's hard to ignore the hype going about this game. However there are something that you need to know about this game.
Blizzard guys themself said that they are trying to hit Korean market very hard, putting all kind of Korean Architecture within the game as well as trying to release their beta at the same time as NA if not first. Everyone knows that half of Blizzard's total sell went to S. Korea alone due to Starcraft which became sort of an icon in that country. But what mistify me now is the way Blizzard has chosen different avenues for this game than what its predecessors has taken since decade ago. It categorically tries to minimize one successful recipe or element of gameplay that made its franchise so popular namely all-out PvP, well at least to Korean market.
Blizzard developers actually admitted that they've played L2 and know exactly what element of gameplay will have great appeal to Koreans or the likes, yet they've chosen not to make it the core aspect of gameplay as they used to do it with Starcraft, Warcraft 3, etc.. They've rather made it look like an evolved "multiple-single-play-instantiation" or so called "Quest-based" gameplay experience which follow the path of the later PvE based MMORPGs, I'm not gonna name them.

All these NC Soft game will not do great in EU/USA I'm pretty sure. What you should try for 2004 is WoW, EQ2, UXO well and Lineage 2.
Personally, what I'm hoping for in 2004 is:
WoW. Any type of WoW !!!!!
Horizons. Fixing issues, and making it a great game!!!
Mythica. I'm so torn here. It has a great story, but since MS is running the show, I'm not gonna hold my breath.
SWG consolidates servers because of the mass exidus......
Think I'm off topic ... I don't remember. Tooooo many beers tonight.....

Yup, i'm totally looking forward to Guild Wars mainly because it'll be my first MMO (MO) RPG experience, other than PlanetSide but i only can play that at my mates house and its a FPS not an RPG, and i have set-up a Guild already to avoid the rush when the game comes into beta testing.
Also its not just because i have dial-up *prepares to defend himself with his very long stick* as i'm upgrading in Janurary either to Cable T1 or Broadband 512k but because it game does look very very very very very cool and the ideas that they have are very very vrey very cool but personally i think they missed out one vital ingredient that all PC games must have GUNS! lol we need guns!

Here is the games that need to be tried out
in order of their release dates:
1. UXO
2. City Of Heroes
3. EQ2
4. WOW
(You can't put Lineage2 in there, I mean
the game just sucks. Everyone looks the
same. Jap version sucked and so will the
game when it's released here.)
My 2 cents...
P.S.
Not sure about Guild Wars it looks good though!
