The Guild

Soldiers of Fortune is a guild with the Dark alignment. Our goals are:

- To help our members to find their path along the dark side of the game.
- To form a unity which cannot be broken, because together we are invincible.
- To be an honourable guild.

SoF will try to help their members in every way possible, from organizing fun events in and out of the game, to protecting the crafters and non-combat members in our guild. These things are possible if our members take an active role upon them in the guild. Of course there will be a lot more advantages to being in SoF then the main goals, but to name them all would be too much work! We are the largest English speaking Guild currently in the game. We are entirely focused on Dark and Light and all of our attention is devoted to it.

Note: SoF are NOT looking to destroy all light, we are looking for honourable battles, not for mass destruction.

The Structure
SoF will have a hierarchical structure. Meaning that there will be a government (council or senate) and multiple divisions (like crafting division, military division, and more). If you join, you will be placed under at least one division that suits you the best. You will have certain tasks which will help you progress in game, and you will get help completing these tasks from the members in your division. The longer you are in the guild, and the more you learn and grow, the better your position will be in the guild. We reward our best players; promotion is easily gained by those who put in the time and effort.

The Rules

The guilds rules are very important to us. Everyone needs to live by these rules. The SoF rules are not hard to comply to. They are the only set rules for behaviour in and out of the game which will only benefit you. If you don't comply with the rules, there will be penalties. Check the SoF Rules for the full list.

Alliances

SoF generally does not participate in any alliances, treaties or trade pacts with other people, groups or Guilds. This is because we feel we should wait until the game is in a stage where they would be useful to us, rather than giving our council members more work which wont benefit us in any way. Currently we are not at war with any person or Guild.

PvP / PKing

SoF currently does not have a fixed policy on PvP or PKing in Dark and Light. We will be a PvP guild, and will devote a large amount of time and effort to it in the game. With regards to PKing, there will be rules set out by the council, but currently these have not been set.

SoF and the Community

SoF has a major place in the community of Dark and Light. We were the first guild to provide official screenshots from the Beta as sanctioned by the developers of the game, aswell as the only Guild to have released an officially sanctioned DnL beta Ingame video. We have also held, and won a number of community events and gone to the E3 expo 2004 as guests of the developers. We also have 4 members who are official moderators in the DnL community, both on IRC and the Darkandlight.net forums. The developers (NPCube & Farlan) have said in the past that they treat SoF as "a really Serious Guild" and we are treated as such, however our main aim is always to have fun with our members and others in the game.

Joining

To join SoF you need to go through a number of stages. Despite our numbers, we are the hardest guild in DnL to join, and have very high standards.

The first stage involves applying to SoF both on our website and here on this site, after that a recommendation from an existing SoF member is required on our website.

Once a recommendation has been recieved, a 2 week trial starts in which you must prove yourself to our existing members. At the end of the trial, a 2-day member vote is held. If you recieve a yes vote of 90% of those who vote then you are admitted to SoF. Otherwise you fail the vote and are not admitted as a member.
