i read these kind of posts before i got the game, but i still got the game(kuz i have to see for myself); yur not missing anything by passing up on this game...
this game is horrible....i'm still pissed i spent $50 for this....its like a mixture of ragnarok, ryl, and lin2 with even less soul than those games...
it's a dated game...people are like it'll get better after lvl 25 when you can do pvp, but i dont know if i have the patience for that.....i hate playing, i do enjoy the afk mining, and i want this game to make me feel better, but it doesnt...
i dont like having to use potions to stay alive; i see that as a design flaw....like i'm an accretian, why isnt there a healer type, eg. Mechanic or something that heals....a half-assed game...
*do not take offense*
but this game is full of lin2, low budget mmo'ers, and fps people.....this isnt the normal mmo crowd, but it isnt as bad as genral chat crowd from wow or an open beta crowd....the majority of people are nubs, cuz this is a noob game...
i was thinkin about resubscribing my lin2(havent played since june'04) account just to check on the game whilel i was playing rf online, sad...
i'm gettin the same feeling i was getting with matrix.....its the same thing, cept you have to lvl up yur shield, range weaponry, close combat, and some other troublesome stuff....
the reason this game really sucks is it's boring; in 2006 developers neeed to hide the fact that we have to kill endless amounts of monsters to advance, this game does not even think about that, it's painful.....
atleast in ragnarok there were cool places to check out and the classes were fun....
i've played this game for 30-40 hours and i havent done anyting cept kill non-AI having monsters... i dont mind grinding, but this shit is retarded and a step back in mmorpgs...
the graphics suck too....its highly buggy, no ui stuff, no key binding, horrible interface, chat sucks, everyone looks kinda the same, there is no gameplay, it looks like a game from 4years ago, servers can get out of balance with the races, and i dont think the game is going to get better(its been out in korea)
if someone disagrees, tell me why the game is fun....

Well said. The only people who like this game are the diehard L2/anime lovers who want to play asian MMOs no matter how terrible they are designed and implimented. It's too bad other people are wasting their hard-earned money on this drek. But hopefully some other people will read the forums and realize how bad the game is until they finally release a trial and they can see for themselves without it costing them anything.
so let me get this straight, you didn't like the pve till lvl 25 so now the whole game is bad? you missed all the good stuff. you missed any of the diffrent classes, you missed the small battlefields between the faction that happen all the time, you will miss the pitboss dungeons you missed the most important thing: chip wars. you will miss the guild wars that will come within next patch, and you will mist the first true Fantasy-Sci Fi Hybrid (don't mention SoR, 99% of the game is fantasy)
this game becomes fun once you get to the pvp part. most of the time you will be playing pvp instead of pve, unless you are like brihtwulf, thinking the only thing that matters is getting your char stronger and avoid any community aspects. this game IS about pvp. if you only do mindless grinding then you will NOT enjoy this game
oh and brihtwulf, sorry to burts your bubble but the game is not bad, how about you realise korean MMO's just aren't your thing? judging from your gamelist, seems you only like Western games, korean community based games just aren't your thing. we got your point by now, in all of the reply's you made, you don't like the game, fine, then go somewhere else.
Blah blah blah. Wrong. I'm an EQ, DAoC, EvE, CoH, and WoW veteran, and I love this game. Hated L2. Hated FFXI. Love this game.
I've watched you sit on these forums and rip this game over and over, and all I can say is STFU already and move on. No the game isn't for everyone. But it *does* have some redeeming gameplay, as evidenced by the fact that myself and thousands of other people are still playing it. If you don't like it, fine. Go play something else. If you want to write a bad review, fine, post it and move on. Don't troll the the forums like you've got some personal grudge against the game. I really do have to wonder where the pathological hatred for RFO in some people comes from. Did it come over and beat up your dad or something? Sheesh.
BTW, I have to love the fact that you rip this game and yet somehow you managed to stick with SWG long enough to make Jedi. That game was a bug-ridden piece of trash for weeks after it came out. THAT game was garbage. RFO's been out two weeks, hasn't had a single server crash, hasn't had a single hour of downtime, and I've been able to play pretty much whenever I want. Could I do that with WoW 2 weeks after release? Nope. Was there, it was unplayable due to lag and downtime. Could I do that with SWG 2 weeks after release? Are you kidding? That game was broken beyond belief for months after release. In fact, it should never have BEEN released in the state it was in. And yet.. there it is, displayed proudly in your sig. Go figure.
It's not The Best Game Ever Made(tm) but it sure has hell isn't the worst. And I'm having fun playing it. Why isn't that enough for some of you?

Sorry to say, but if a game isn't fun for first impressions, then it will deter many. World of Warcraft is pretty lame after 50, and even at 60 (EG dungeons and all) it's a little repetitive... BUT, tons play it still because it presents the greatest first time experience (and possibly because the expansion promises a new reason to play longer).
You should NOT have to work for the fun parts... it's like going to work and doing overtime for a lousy one busy day off. That should NOT be a game... if RF isn't fun until later stages, then it's a sin to call it entertainment, like watching a terrible movie or listening to Britney Spears.
I played EQ for 5 years and enjoyed. I have moved to RF online and like the fact that its easy to stop playing for a day or two and pick up again where you left off. The game can get repetitive but there are alot of nice things in the game which are new to me. like race leaders which can only be achieved bye one person at a time. Also something that is good is that you can make BOKU buck while you are Away from keyboard.
the Grind system was implemented to stop the power leveling from players.. its actually pretty easy to gain levels its the training in certain areas THAT YOU DON"T have to do but will be rewared greatly later on in the game.. well just my .02
I would rather have a game that starts slow and develops into something great, than one that starts off well and fizzles into junk. Which is exactly what WoW does. At least in games like RFO (and most MMO's honestly -- WoW is the exception, not the rule) you get a payoff for your long hours of time invested. In WoW it was just the opposite. Sure you didn't have to invest as much time, but once you got to the end game, the game just sucked. So for me, it felt like a waste.
RFO is not a beat-content-get-loot-beat-more-content-get-better-loot game. If you go into it thinking that's what it is, then yes you will be disappointed. It's more like a long-term sporting match. The entire game is based around the faction warfare. I think people coming from WoW see 'PvP-based' and think of WoW BG's or something. WoW's PvP is a tacked-on addition to a PvE game. It is not the entire basis of the game. Big difference.
As for 'deterring many', I'm actually OK with that. I'm an MMO veteran. I don't need hand-holding-kiddie-treatment anymore. If a few MMO newbs or just plain impatient jerks gets turned off, all the better. As the fact that the RFO servers seem to be populated 24/7 can attest, there seem to be plenty of others who are genuinely interested in the game.

I can say my opinion however little it will mean.
Korean online games, hack slash hack slash through thousands of monsters, is nothing negative, it's nothing MMORPG players has to feel automaticaly superior to. It takes a strong mind and a strong will to keep leveling. The base idea is little progression through much hard work, things like roleplaying and casual dead RP time are not a priority.
For the games of this type I have played, this one is still the best one. It reminds me of FlyFF in many ways also.
Looking for a cool Korean style game? I recommend this one!

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
For those of you who worship the game; yes its a good game, it has the basics of all MMO's and none of the RPG.
For those of you who hate the game; well its all a matter of personal preference.
In my opinion the game is good but it could use some serious work. I dont go to an MMO because its a "care bear" or not. I dont solely sell myself to it because of one solid feature and several shabby ones. I go to an MMO that is well balanced and has DEPTH. This game lacks any purposeful depth. For those of you who keep going on about how it will "evolve" or "get better", please understand that this game has already been out for over a year and a half and that its not going to go anywhere really unless they do an NGE like SWG did. And for those of you who had the wonderful chance to experince the NGE of SWG know that newer does not always mean better.
Please do not flame me and say "oh, well you just havent played the game yet" etc etc, because I have, i've gotten to lvl 35. I've spent time in every single map that the first planet has to offer without heading to ether yet. I've ganked "noobs" and i've been to multiple chip wars. On the loosing and winning side of each. And my honest conclusion is that I can not find depth in anything in this game. The only thing that gets in depth is the PT and the PT grind.
I'm sorry, I'm sick of potion spamming and i dont find it very fun when you come into a stalemate with an Accretian and you both sit there building PT's off one another untill 10 other people arive to help you finish him off or vice versa. I have been harrased by a cora summoner for over 45 minutes while farming cash in order to afford potions. The only thing he made me do was waste money and take more time to do it because he kept rooting me.
In all honesty, this game is for those of you who dont care about depth or any type of storyline. For those of you who dont mind constantly spending all your money on potions that last you 45 minutes and you farm the cash for them again for over 3 hours to afford those 2k pots.
Those of you who speak of charecter customization, thats great that you can do multiple classes in the game, but then that takes away from even having classes or class advantages. I recall in SWG pre NGE that you could do the same thing but they put restrictions on how many skills you could have in order to make you really plan your charecter out and figure out what you wanted.
Having a spiritualist that can tank with a shield, nuke with the casters high DPS and move as fast as a ranger makes it so NO class is really that appealing and puts no planning into the game. All that you need in order to accomplish that is to grind out them PT's for countless hours, and as long as you have a second account for AFK mining you'll be alrite because then you can afford the countless number of potions you'll need for that dauntling task.
So you all say "look at CW! thats a great aspect of the game! thats what it all boils down to at the end of the day!" Yes, thats all good and well but once again, no depth to the game. You "hold off" the other forces and whomever has the greater organization per race/guild will win the CW. The only time there is a need for strategy is when you have two races allying against you and you need to find a way to distract one and hold off another. Even then stragey will fail you as they'll both zerg rush you, or zerg rush your chip forcing you into a stalemate or a killsteal.
Yes, its a good game for those of you who dont mind the lack of: depth, charecter customization, mindless PT grinding, shallow maps, little to no exploring, the same mobs with a new car smell over and over again, little to no personal skill being needed, and a lack of any 1on1 action where NO skill is required what-so-ever, then yes, this game is for you.
On one other note, please do not call me an MMO "noob" etc etc, as i have played quite a list of MMO's, as follows in no particular order:
E&B
CoH/CoV
FFXI
SWG
WoW
EVE
PlanetSide
RO
EQ2
For those of you who enjoy it, have fun. For those of you who dont, move on.
"And after blizzard takes over the world, they are gonna gather a bunch of lemmings, sit on their fat asses near a cliff, and watch the little fuzzy bastards suicide dive into the ground below. . . . . all just for their own entertainment."
You can present reasonable and logical arguements for how the game has many flaws and lacks depth, but the only response you're going to get is, "who cares about depth? I just want to pwn people..." The players of this game don't care about depth in a MMO and they're unable to argue anyone's critiques on the game and its system. I've pointed out the same things you have, and I'm called a "flamer" because I don't like the game. People can come on and tell everyone how they love it and it's the best thing they've ever played, but if you start to say that your opnion is that the game is not a good one, you're viewed as a "flamer" or a "care bear".
They love their mindless grind and it gives them some strange sense of satisfaction to just grind your way through countless numbers of the same creature ad nausium. The point is, these "fans" don't care about content, all they want is the PvP (which in my opinion is a poorly developed clone of the RvR system in DAoC). But don't take my word for it. Go out and spend $50 to "try" the game. We've all got plenty of money to spend on things we may or may not like. Respect people's right to have opinions Assoroth...
Not to mention the fact that you haven't acknowledged the reasoned and well-thought responses a lot of people here have given in support of the game (including myself), and only seem to focus on the one or two "this game rulz" posts. Of course, there are an equal number of "this game sux" posts as well, so I figure that balances out.
I respect people's right to have an opinion, but I do have to wonder why some people have such a pathological hatred of this game that they spend their time on the boards bashing the game in nearly every single thread.
And as far as "depth", I have yet to see you refute my argument that NO MMO has any depth to it. Explain to me how WoW's "kill 20 <insert mob here>" or "collect 10 <insert stupidly rare drop here>" quests are any "deeper" than this game? Explain to me how "kill the same boss mob 92 times to get rare drop" is depth? Explain to me how "spend 30 minutes taking this item to NPC on the other side of the map" is depth? Just because you dress something up with cliched quest text doesn't make it any less of a grind.
But of course, you're not actually here to have a reasoned discussion about the game (despite your professions to the contrary), you're here because you hate this game and can't stand the idea that other people might be enjoying it. Well, I detest SWG. I detest EQ2. I can't stand FFXI. But I'm not spending my days trolling their forums bitching about how much they suck. THAT is why you're branded a troll and flamer.
If you want to review the game (positively or negatively) that's just fine. But considering most of your posts dedicate a large portion of their text insulting the players (shall I post quotes?) then perhaps you deserve what you've had coming.

everyone was really cool and highly smart....they only abused us alittle bit=P now i'm right down the street workin at big huge games, they're cool too.
back to the topic...
i'd play this game if they added keymapping/binding of keys, dealt with the pot spamming design, improved ui(make it look good is all i'm asking), improve terrain texture(thats lowest on my list), and fix the chat....c'mon, its 2006 dont support cheezy and half assed design...i demand a good product with my allmighty american $
i could probably deal with the pot situation....all those other suggestions/problems i listed make this a shitty game(atleast for me)
Im tried of replying properly to stupid posts that try to generalise, especially when the person posting spends his/her life bashing the game.
So ill just say this. Brihtwulf, you are full of shit.

I'm looking for a game that I'll like and stay playing for a long time, much like I did with the pre-CU SWG. So I figured this is the best place to find info on the game itself. But I see both good and bad reviews so at this time I'm not sure what to think.
I did see someone write the game gets good after you reach the pvp level. I don't think a game should become good after a certain amount of leveling. If a game is a good one it should be good from scratch and not after level 20 or 30. What if it isn't, then what? You've wasted all that time for nothing.
Saying you have to wait 'til you go high in levels is a weak argument and not worth the time nor effort in trying it.
its painful to play...i hurts to play this game past lvl 20...but if you're cool with settling for shit, go for it.... i need the best.....i cant deal with bad products.
Well Blue your concern is valid. I wouldn't say that the game is only good at PvP and that you have to get to 30 to enjoy it. However, leveling is sort of like SWG. It is skill based and the more you use the skill the more you level in it. It is different in the fact that you can level any basic skill and the cap is determined by your class. You can just master the basics, spam potions, and get to 30 in no time. Or, you can take your time, level your other skills, and make a truly powerful and well rounded character. It's about taking your time to accomplish something and when you get to PvP, the difference between you at 30 and someone who power-leveled to 30 is staggering. There is grouping a little later in the game, but like most games, the lower levels don't really have anything difficult enought to require a group. I am having alot of fun in the game. But everyone has different tastes. Check out the Philippine site in your other post and it will give you alot more info to base a decision on.

your not dealing with a bad product, your dealing with a product you don't like. big diffrence.
I might be coming into this late so the subject might have changed but my outlook on RF *Lightning sign* Online is...
It's fun... I'll give you that, I really enjoy the graphics , it's fresh for me.
One thing though.
It's a lot like ragnarok online
So there are literally pre-cautions before playing this game.
(You must have like(d) Ragnarok online)
(You must have a fond for Anime and Gundam wing style robots)
(You must enjoy grinding, Which some people don't, some people do, I on the hand do, I played swg)
And on this, you don't HAVE TO, It's just, it's so much more enjoyable if you did have these pre-requisites.
Then, you must like large scale wars (Chip wars for example)
Basically it's a good game if you like those things..
You can't just pick up an MMO And just , love it, Unless it's truly fun to you, Not everyone likes it. But a certain demographic (Running off the statements above) like the game,
I for one, think it's extremley fun, but I'm not going to quit my current mmo for it just yet.
