What MMORPG are you looking forward to the most?
The new PC Gamer outlines about 20 new MMORPG titles in the works, names like LOTR Online, Star Trek Online, Warhammer Online, Vanguard, Heros Journey, Seed, and lots more.
As a Planetside (18 months) and World of Warcraft (14 months) veteran and retired. In PS I burned out attacking the same bases over and over. In WoW, the end game, repeatedly doing the same high level quests in 20-40 man groups got old quickly. Note: Some of my friends are still going strong in WoW.
I'm energetically in search of the next MMO that can hold my interest for more than 12 months. I was considering RF-Online, but that is now being trashed in the forums, D&D Online seems to be controversial as it's missing some MMO elements (like a world to explore), Eve online seems good but I don't want to spend all of my time exploring outer space. Now if you could explore a planet..... Anyhow-
I'm looking for these elements which may be impossible to find in one game:
* large dynamic beautiful world to explore- players can change the game world
* ability to solo at least 50% of the time
* indepth, but reasonable craft system- the ability to build structures (Tale in the Desert)
* supports casual game-play
* nice mix of open quests vs instanced quests
* PvP in designated areas
* Avoids excessive grinding
* Inovative, challenging, and interesting quests
Added: * Prefers small party quests 5-15 people.
Opinions?
Thanks!

I did before making this post, but wanted to talk about it. You don't have to if you don't wanna.

Sounds like your describing Anarchy Online.. Well before Shadowlands screwed it up.. Anyways I would say look out for Age of Conan, Darkfall (if it ever comes out), and The Chronicles of Spellborn... Like you im a PS vet who left for WOW then back agian to PS then left for good and im still looking for what you posted above... Its sad how in those few request that you typed there is not one MMORPG that can provide that for us... Whats even more depressing is that I have been waiting for a game like that for 4 years now, something tells me it will be another 4 years or more untill I get what im looking for.....

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
I don't think it's possible to get those items in one game either. And I really don't like being a hermit, moving from zone to zone as I complete my quest list.
A Tale in the Desert does some nice things with crafting and building, and has different types of quests (tests) but it's on the other end of the spectrum and a bit slow for my tastes.

I am looking for a game like that as well..., It sux that no ones is even making it, I mean... Wouldn't bussiness wise, be great to have a game that combines the best of all others?
Huge worlds to explore, Players housing, Deep and rich craftting system, Cool loots, strong PVP in PVP zones/planets, good game play, balance of melle/ranged, Nice graphics + computer friendly(like WOW)..
MIX it all and add a Nice mix of Scfi With fantasy(yeah how cool would that be?) And you will have The killer game, a game to make WOW Numbers a joke...

What do you guys think of Heroes journey? its hard to find information if youi dont sift through unnofficial FAQs but from everything ive read and what people say about the developers text based games im getting excited. as far as i can tell your whole list is supported by HJ except for building structures... that im not so sure you can do.
Be one with it.
Quote from April 06 PC Gamer-
With a design motto of "more fun, less tedium", this fantasy -themed MMORPG has a 2006 release date and promises action-packed, adventure-style roleplaying
That's all I know about it at this point. After visiting the Heros Journey web site, I'll say that the graphics are supurb. Browsing the screen shots it has the most character customization of any MMO I've seen. It will be interesting to find out about its game-play elements.
One thing I need to add to my original post: small party questing.
I'm realizing that for an MMO it's not that hard to create good graphics and lush landscapes. What is much harder is designing the over all package and game play elements with the ability to hold players attention.

While I'm too cynical to get overly excited about any game not yet released () I am looking forward to Age of Conan. The fact they fully expect a mature rating shows me they at least know their source material, and their ideas on combat are interesting.
When people will pay others to play a game for them it might be a sign the game isn't all that fun.
Nice graphics at the Age of Conan web site, but we all know it takes more than nice graphics to make a MMO. So I'll reserve judgement too especially after the rf-onlinegame debacle (perceived based on forum chat)!

wait and see. Check out some betas. Listen to other people's opinions, if you have guild-mates, I suppose their input is important too.
darkfall, roma victor, age of conan....all becuase they are trying to add to the genre instead of falling inline with the rest of the clone wars for dominance, whether they succeed we will see but atleast they are pushing out the boat
