Playing wow currently and was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions about EQII
Is it solo able at all? How big is the game world (compared to wow or even old eq)? Is there any depth to it as far as tradeskills / factions / character advancement or is it crappy like wow?
I read the info on the website but would prefer opinions of players instead of going by advertising. Thanks in advance.

It is solable but you will miss out on doing things like Heritage Quests for good items as they require groups.
Cant really comment on the size compared to WoW as i have never played that game. Compared to EQ1 its smaller of course due to the amount of expansions EQ1 has now.
Tradeskilling is the best i have come accross so far in all the Mmorpg's i have played. Plenty of depth to it plus everyone always needs something from crafters, so theres money to be made too.
They have just implememnted Achievement Points with the last expansion. Basically you follow one of 5 different branches for different attributes, skills, spells etc. I posted the FAQ on this on this site, probably on the next page now.
Whannnnn Whannnnn dat is the sound of 20 year old babies
There are many SOE haters tht claim the combat is slow, and boring. But i find that combat in this gme is some of the most exciting, and alot quiker than WoW cause your actually having fun in combat. Thats right, combat is fun!!!
and if you get in a good group you can smash through enamies and rack up xp and loot
and thats the truth!
The new EQ2, better than ever befor !
don't click this link...
I quit playing this game a long time ago. Why?
-Laggy and loads of loading between zones (and I had a kick ass computer)
-Daily downtime (really, really, really, annoying)
-Selling stuff to other players through appartment was really bad and boring.
-Crafting was just boring and took alot of time.
-As a healer, I only could heal people that was in my own group. Uh? I wanna heal everyone!
-It was not as soloable as I would like it to be.
Dunno how the game is today...
Upsides then... umm... well... I'm sure there is some. I never found them thou.
I'll second that the game has improved tremendously since launch. Were the game EQ2 is now the game it was when it came out WoW probably wouldn't have quite as big an edge in subscription numbers.
You can try EQ2 for free at http://www.trialoftheisle.com/ . That ought to give you a good taste of the game.

I just recently went back after playing WoW for about 8 months, and I am having so much more fun in EQ2. The new changes really have made it a completely different game. I too play a healer and I used to hate not being able to heal anyone outside of my group. Now I can heal whomever I want. I have a RL friend who plays and he'll pop into mentor mode so we can group. There's also some nice low lvl named for small raiding.
Solo'ing is certainly doable. There's more quests then you'll ever have time for. The quests have actual storylines. They're not even comparible to the cookie cutter quests of WoW. The graphics are hit or miss. I personally love them, but some people absolutely hate em. I suppose you just have to get used to it. I use the SOGA models which makes it prettier. =P All in all despite the Sony name, this really is an incredible game and definately worth a shot. The Trial of Isles has recently had an overhall, so the quests are new and its different for each faction. Give it a shot!
I must say the trial island feels way different from the real game, the expression you get on the island is that the game world is tiny and the quests are bulky and stupid.
Whoa is that wrong or what... I am new to EQ2, only played 3 days, but that is enough to give me the expression of how E-N-O-R-M-O-U-S the world is :S And how many billions of quests there are...! It really blew me away anyways, and I understand why so many loves it, there is so much to do. You got to give SOE credits for the UI anyway, especially the "vendor browser" and the guild functions, oh, and all the options.

That was my main reason for posting here. My wife and I were playing together on a different game and she woulda been p1ssed if I started a new account with eq2. So I tried the trial and like you said, cant get a feel for the game world stuck there.
Since my original post I decided to check it out. Community seems cool and helpful, thanks for that. Are any character combinations better for a duo early on? I know healer and tank but was wondering if like priest and ranger was feasible. If my wife doesnt have time to play i'll definitely 2-box while shes not on if its not a pain in the ass to control.

My background. I have a 60 in WoW and two more in the 50s. In EQ2, my highest is 41.
> Is it solo able at all?
EQ2 is soloable, but not quite as soloable as WoW, in my opinion. However, people are much more inclined to group, so finding one is easier in EQ2 than in WoW.
> How big is the game world (compared to wow or even old eq)?
Seems roughly as big as WoW to me. Maybe even bigger.

Tradeskills are much more in-depth than WOW's, but they are being simplified. However, even the simplified version will be better. I make stuff I can sell for real gold in EQ2, but wasn't able to in WoW.
Factions haven't impacted me much in EQ2. WoW factions had more effect. Howver, I am only 41 in EQ2, but hit 60 in WoW, so I could be wrong.
Overall, my wife and I like EQ2 better than WoW.
