Do any companies publish their profits from MMOs?

In the movie industry it is never a secret what the budget for any given movie is, and when it comes out the box office is tracked so everyone can know how much it made.

It would be nice if there was an equivalent for MMOs. Then we would know for sure if the companies are sticking it to us on the monthly fee, but probably because of this reason most companies won't reveal this information to the general public. Sure we know how many copies they have sold, or how many subscriptions they have. Usually companies love to tell us that much, or at least how many copies they have sold.

I just think it would be interesting to see where the break even point is. You would think six million subcribers paying around 50 bucks a pop just to buy the game WoW would have already made a profit. That's around 300 million dollars.

I know WoW is an exceptional example because of the insane number of players, but how many games cost over 300 million dollars to develop? I know they are becoming more expensive, but I don't think they have reached that point qute yet.

When people will pay others to play a game for them it might be a sign the game isn't all that fun.

I think SoE is pretty forward about those numbers.

I didn't check them for sometimes, but I think EQ2 must have cost around 20 millions for production only...add the expensions, the maintenance and the patches...I am sure you can find those numbers...if you care enough.  And you prolly can find how much profit it bring so far.  I am not sure EQ2 is rentabilized yet, especially if you consider the interest they could have gotten on the initial 20 millions...but it will pretty soon if not yet.

Blizzard is another matter, finding the numbers might prove harder...I am not even sure that the CEO of Blizzard know them!  image  It is profitable and it is all that matter...and they check what funds they can use to funds other stuff.  image
