"You have to read between the lines, and I, like everyone else following the Trainwreck that is SWG have been eagerly anticipating who will make SWG2 (or the next SW MMO)...  SOE and LA made bad bedfellows, so it isn't that far of a stretch to say LA would give the licensing rights to a different company...

Stay with me here, its time to connect some dots...  BioWare made KOTOR, Pandemic (who has teamed up with BioWare) made SW Battlefront...  These are two of the most succesful SW games of all time...  There is no coincidence here, this new team already said they were working on a new "Space" title...  This has to be SWG2 or the next SW MMO...

And yes, eveything now will be a WoW clone, EQ is a far less of a game than WoW...  Does WoW use the same formula as EQ once did?  Sure, does a '06 Ford Mustang still use a combustion engine like the first Model T did?  Yep...  WoW is the end all and be all of MMO's now, this game will be mimiced by almost every major release until the BNet kiddies finally grow tired of it and want a challenge...  Then, and only then could we possibly see the return of a sandbox style SW MMO...

BTW, the new SW MMO will suck just as bad as the NGE...  KOTOR style gameplay is completely incompatible with an MMO...  The whole Jedi thing ruins the idea of any SW MMO, imo, you simply cannot configure an alpha class into a game without the BS that comes with it...

All you SW fans are hosed..."

Ok lets connect some dots as you say...

Where did you see this Bio Ware team say:

"There is no coincidence here, this new team already said they were working on a new "Space" title..."

Because it seems to me you are referring to something else entirely... which was:

"AUSTIN, Texas, March 8, 2006—NCsoft® Corporation (KSE:036570.KS), the world’s leading developer and publisher of online computer games, announced today its latest partnership with a new company in Austin. Spacetime Studios™, composed of a core team with previous leadership roles on successful franchises such as Privateer, Wing Commander and Star Wars Galaxies, will publish its next game under the NCsoft brand."

That team announced that they are working on a space game.  Its in Austin but they signed with NCSoft and its got some of the other people from OSI/SOE/SWG.

There has been no quote of this Bio Ware team that I've seen saying their title is a "space" title.  Could you post a link please?

Ya I agree that with Kotor/Battlefront between Bio Ware / Pandemic that it could be a star wars game.

I also agree that it could be a Jade Empire MMO,  a baldur's gate mmo or something completely different.

I'll stand by the fact that neither of us know and until we do its rather foolish to come up with lines such as:

"the new SW MMO will suck just as bad as the NGE...  KOTOR style gameplay is completely incompatible with an MMO"

We have no idea this is even what they are doing for "sure" and even if it is.. we don't know what the gameplay would be like.. Since last I checked neither of us are testing the game.

But that's just the facts as I see them rather than trying to make a flat out statement about the game or game play of a project I have no details on and neither do you.

That was my problem to begin with.  Big difference between saying this may be what they are doing and if it plays this way it would suck.

Instead you try to make absolutes out of speculation.

The Car thing didnt' do it for me either.

There is at least massively measurable difference between a 1900's ford and even modern econo crap boxes.

The difference between WoW and EQ are minor in comparison.  Polish and flash...  Yet the core gameplay is the same.  Kill x amount of things ding new level and all the other issues that face level based games.

So I stand by that WoW is just another in a long line of EQ clones and the next game like it.. will be too.  Until someone thinks outside the box.

Just as any skill based game would most likely be considered a UO clone in some way.

WoW didn't reinvent the wheel... they just brought in polished aluminum instead of snap on hub caps.

    Oh and last thing...

I feel that with the massively bad press that LA has picked up over SWG.  If they signed a deal with a Developer like Bio-Ware... They would have been all over being part of this announcement to try and gain some kind of plus.

The only reason not to would be the conflict if SWG was doing well.  But its dead in the water and if this is the project it will become public at some point.  So why wouldn't LA have been all over the announcement to at least float it out there...

This is going to be a great MMO, it dont matter if it is Sci-fi or fantasy its going to be good. Anything Bioware has done has been great, with Bioware and Pandemic joinging forces and Pandemics track record as well with making great games, this is going to be one hell of a good MMO.

I would also not be surprised one little bit if this MMO has not been in development now for a year or more, it would go with how Bioware does business, they always release information about a new game well after it is already in development, I wouldnt be surprised if this was not ready for 2008 whatever it is

HEHE would be nice but I highly doubt it would be Bioware the famed makers of neverwinter nights as Obsidian did KOTR II:tSL. However it seems MMO developers are popping out of the woods in Austin as former SWG devs also started another company called starfire or something and are partnering with NCsoft.

I think that poster at SlashDot is probably right... rather than a new Star Wars MMO, they are probably developing a Fallout MMO.
