But before MMORPG games went vastly mainstream I bet you there tons of players who were gay. Hell, its probable I even had some friends in game that were gay.  I probably had some friends who liked to eat french fries on Saturday afternoon in their underwear too. But, it wasn't until a game went mainstream that anyone decided it was necessary to start drawing on those 'external' social lines.
It equates to trolling and its just asking for attention.  There's places to stand up and parade around that you're gay and get a reaction/defend your rights (which I applaud) However, making a video game a place where you make policical statments or choose social bonds based on such profound external elements.....this shows me that "you" and "I" truly are not in agreement on what a video game world is suposed to be.

And its RP wise where it disturbs the most. But you dont see my point - I dont mind who or what you are as long as I have fun playing with you, but differentiating groups in a game according to RL attitudes etc. is something that is completely missing the point of an MMO, which is to play a game, and not make a statement of RL issues. Those are at the wrong place there, as would be a Coca Cola ad in WoW.

It would *never* come to my mind to get together with lets say 10 people at lets say a Con to play a board game and then start to sort who is gay, who is black/white/whatever colour or boy and girl and make up the play groups according to that. So why should I in an MMO? So I truly dont care, ofc not about this issue itself (where I think you misunderstood me) but *not* about your RL sexual orientation and other matter of private life. I am there to have fun playing a game, simple as that.

Saying gay/lesbian friendly guild is NO DIFFERENT THEN SAYING "mature guild, or funloving joking  guild , or very serious and strict guild."

THis is only about like minded people trying to find a guild to play together in.

If you were 30 tears old would you join a guild made up entirily by 12 year olds??? Or if you were 12 would you wanna play with a bunch of 40 + people????? 

And they never said straight people NOT ALLOWED!!! They are just trying to avoid homophobics that would bash them everychance trhey got.

How does a bunch of people forming a gaylesbian friendly guild on a NON-RP SERVER effect YOUR RP EXPERIENCE on your RP server!!!!!

Even if they wanna form a RP GAY  guild and rp a bunch of gay orcs and such .... you are not required to join... as long as they use the proper channels you wont hear it ....

If they use the wrong channels and disturb you then then they shld be warned no different then anyone breaking the rp rules.

The people saying they don't want to see people shouting about their sexual orientation in game have it sort of the wrong way around. The issue in question wasn't a guild being gay/bi friendly, or whatever, because they wanted to shout it from the hills, but because they were sick of experiencing what they thought was casual abuse: the most common one being the constant use of the word gay as an insult.
Now, you could say, why announce your guild as gay/bi friendly (or whatver) to avoid that, just have it as a rule it's not allowed? You could do that, it's what our guild does, but the issue then is plenty of guilds exist that are spanish guilds, or norwegian guilds, so you can't really say you can't have a gay/bi guild friendly guild as long as that guild isn't exlusionary (which is more than can be said for the national guilds as they speak their own tongue in guild chat probably).
So, in an ideal world it wouldn't ne needed, but it seems that it is. Sadly.

I missed your post before, and just wanted to say well said.

Its sad  however, people rarely complain when people form national guilds or such yet they are very quick to try and deny people a safe haven in a gay friendly guild.

Just change it to "White People friendly" guild. Then it won't be discriniminating. And it'll serve the same purpose.

The whole purpose of this "GLBT" guild is to flaunt their provocative and taboo lifestyle in other peoples face. Anyone can spout this, "It's to find  like-minded people to socialize with ingame."

What a joke. No one had to create interest specific groups to find like-minded people in the past 15 years of graphic MMORPG's to socialize with those that they had a kinship with.
