If Auto Assault flops will we be stuck with EQ/WoW clones for another 7 years?

Auto Assault is completely different, the mmog industry needs a game like this. It looks like a lot of fun, I bet it's been a while since any jaded mmoger said that about a mmog. Who cares if it's not hard hardcore, this isn't 1999 all over again, games are for fun you know? If it flops then we may be stuck with EQ/WoW wannabees for the rest of time. Just saying look at the bigger picture.::::20::

umm...almost nothing on schedule of release this year seems like another EQ/WoW clone, so I really don't understand why people announce WoW clones already..

This game IS a WoW wannabe image it's WoW with cars.
It's a mega shame because NC soft and NetDevil had the chance to do something totally awesome with this, and I was following it right up until I got into Beta and realised how boring the combat is.

I'm not sure who it would appeal to but in essence it's the same old levels-loot-auto target story, fighting basically consists of keeping up with your enemy while you hold down the left mouse button. Seriously the physics engine rocks, speeding around messing about is pretty fun for a while but when things get serious they also get repetitive very quickly.
I wont say that hot key combat is lame, but for what it is Auto Assaults falls under that category.

My advice is if you want vehicular MMO combat, get Planetside. If you want Mad Max Online, wait for Twilight War.

It's even better than that. It's WoW with cars AND in-game advertising!

I liked it better the first time when it was called Interstate '76. ::::39::

When people will pay others to play a game for them it might be a sign the game isn't all that fun.

I think AA will flop just because it's not a very good game. IMO

Hahaha.  How can you call something a WoW clone when WoW is a clone itself.

Hmmm... Maybe somewhere we'll get lucky and spawn a mutation.  lol.

Auto Assault will be a resplendissant success.

It may not keep customers that long however, that I can't say.  Auto Assault is very innovative on some aspects, but on others, like enforcing PvP, they bring little.

I suggest nonetheless to enjoy Auto Assault if you can, like I wish I could have enjoy WoW relative casualness...but I was stuck in my self hatred bubbles against raiding and this bubbles is only gaining power and improving...might eventually incorporate PvP hatred, even those in form that are "false consensuals" (best rewards = false).

WoW despites all it flaw...is one of the less bad MMOs out there, it is as close to casual friendly as you get if you exclude CoH who is leading the way.  Real casuals friendly games are bounded to success, especially if one can be hardcore friendly at the same time (end games been various and differents and not affecting the rest of the game).  But that might take time to come out.  I think the challenge is on the design level rather than on the technology levels, just need more talented folks into the designing industry (not saying anything against anyone in it, saying more talented peoples will manage end games better than enforcing it on peoples who don't want it).

Eventually it will happen.  Just be patient.  Hero's Journey will either be a significant step in that direction...or a miserable failure.  Hopefully Bioware will leads the industry soon, showing what design talent means to MMOs makers.  See, the less bad MMO out there was unable to retain a design genius (with some flaws most likely)...I think the industry is about to get a wake up call with Bioware entering the MMO market...and I can only smile with pure glee at it!

I dunno anything about AA and have really no desire to but...

Bioware did good with NWN. I hope they make a fantasy MMO with the same people. They did really well. The only thing that I worry about with Bioware is how long it'll take them. They are like Blizzard in regards to having a really under-acheiving dev team (or management). Even with the recent announcement of them making a MMO division I'd be suprised if the game saw the light of day before 5 years was up.

As to AA, if it's like Coh it'll be new game. I'm not much of a gamer outside of Fantasy based but CoH was fun (till they began hacking classes up a lot) but over all I think it's anything BUT a clone.

Please they need to lay off the fantasy MMOs for awhile, theres to many and there all the same, nothing is new.

By AA being a WoW clone with cars do you actually mean its a Twisted Metal clone with the ability to upgrade your weapons?

    Siehst du mich
    Erkennst du mich

ist noch ein Platz f?r dich

I wouldn't say this is anything near twisted metal, more like mad max.

It's nothing like Twisted Metal combat. The only thing similar about AA and TM combat is that they both take place in cars. In AA all the combat is calculated. You get within the appropriate range for you weapon, and then it rolls a dice to see if you hit or miss the target each time your weapon fires.

I do have to agree that AA is very similar to the feel of WoW. Quests seem like the only worthwhile method of leveling up, since xp off of the mobs won't get you anywhere. There isn't enough variety in weapons in the early levels, at least for me. One thing that really bothers me about the game is that you get quests that award you items, but the you can't use the items until you level up 3-4 levels, which is really rediculous considering that will take you quite a few hours to do that.

AA is barely different from the current crop of MMO's. Yes it features vehicular combat and an impressive physics engine, but that's about all that's different.

    Bingo

I never said AA was a WoW clone, I said it's a WoW wannabe.
...actually no, it's a Twisted Metal/Mad Max wannabe and a clone of WoWs play structure. image

It's still an alright game if you don't mind the current crop of MMOs. Perhaps I'm just a little old fashioned in preferring consistant PvP to questing and collecting things. The first video I saw last spring got me thinking this would be a full on 3-way autofrag fest 24/7. Obviously there is some PvP in it, but as usual it's a case of higher level=win and the way you fight can't be called anything other than tedious, it's not even 'strategic' like most claim hotkey combat is.

Yes the theme is original, but the game structure is too similar to everything else hence a let down. :(
Unless you like to RP that is...
