Character generation and customization

I am currently considering buying this game as I have been playing pnp DnD for many years. I would like to know how in-deapth the character generation is, both in character appearance and in stats etc? I have read a few posts that say all models look the same and its difficult to look unique, would like to hear opinions on this if pos.

Reason for asking is that normally in order to get into my character I need to feel that they are an individual firstly, then it grows from there. The characters I normally dream up for pnp tend to have some quite out of the ordinary attributes and/or clothing etc. Unusual race/class combinations are fun too, does the character gen cater for stuff like this? If its not possible at the beginning does armour or clothing later on allow for unique tailoring of appearance?

I am not currently subscribed to any mmorpg, been waiting for that one where I can truly make the weird characters I think up

There is a fair amount of customization. Though I don't think it's one of the games strong points' you can choose from several different eyes, mouths, hairstyles etc for your character, as well as hair color and skin tone. Each of the races has some unique choices. One thing you cant do is choose from various body types. So everyone in your race is the same height and weight.

As far as stats go it's pretty customizable. Your main stats are on a point buy system as are your skills. Different classes pay more or less for various skills depending on how relevant it is to your class. You get to choose your own feats as well. (feats are like special abilities)
