Star Wars Show To Run Long?

George Lucas' longtime producing partner Rick McCallum told the BBC that a proposed Star Wars TV series will run for at least 100 episodes.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1, McCallum said the show's writing team would soon be meeting to start on the project, which would begin filming in 2008 and be ready the same year. "Hopefully, if we can make it work and everybody's excited and watches it, we will keep on going," McCallum told the BBC.

The series will be set between Episode III and IV of the film saga and will cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up. McCallum said there would be "a whole bunch of new characters" and the series would be "much more dramatic and darker." He added that it was unlikely any of the stars of the movies would be involved in the TV series.

A typical prime-time network TV show airs about 22 episodes in a season.

Lucas needs to learn a lesson from Star Trek Voyager and Star Trek Deep Space 9. With a universe so rich in lore why the hell do they have to keep coming back to "The Skywalker Saga"? Voyager proved we didn't need the Enterprise. DS9 proved episodes based entirely around Klingons, a space station, and other species were fun to watch. Hell even Star Trek should recognize this and put out an all Klingon show or a show based entirely around an elite Starfleet military force working off a planet to go on missions like the Voyager-Oriented game.

Have a Star Wars TV series based around an entirely made up Smuggler and his robot or alien partner, or an X-Wing Squadron like the Rogue and Wraith Squadron books. There is so damn much there to work with. Tons of ships and aliens and character and planets to work with. Seriously. What the hell?

Luke growing up?  That sounds a bit drab.  Maybe after Anakin became Vadar or even base it on Dark Horse's Dark Empire when Luke goes to the Dark Side, but not him growing up.  Watching a show about a moisture farming sounds as exciting as watching golf.

Just imagine the old show Growing Pains but in the Star Wars Universe. image

I agree there. Its a dangours move to base it on Skywalker since the TV show will then be compaired to the movies.
They should focus on a different story but taken place in the Star Wars universe/happenings.

But on a different note I have to say a Star Wars TV show makes me laugh, and proves to me how sad Lucas is that he didnt get to buy Star Trek (he tryed but they did not accept).
So now that neckless dude it following the "trek" of Star Trek...its pathetic.

I also find it funny that they say the TV show will be "darker" then the movies...HAHA! Thats what they have allways said for each new movie that it was to be darker then the next, but just turns out to be a lame as a Carebare cartoon.
Star Wars is just brainless crap IMO...(let the flames begin).

I love Star Wars but I don't like the movies. Give some of the books a shot, especially the X-Wing Series. You might be surprised.

the first star wars movies A New Hope, The Empire Strikes back , and the return of the Jedi were good ,but the new ones were crap they had , in my opinion , realy bad acting. teh books are realy good I think one of the best series was the New jedi Order with the Tuuzhan Vong and all . Making a bshow about look growing would be relaly lame unless the sand people atack in every episode.

p.s. whats up with killing chewbaca and Anakin in the New Jedi order sreies. the publishers must have been smoking crack or something.

That, or the Rogue Squadron series.
