Went to Wally-World just now.  Got a great lil gamepad for Battlefield 2, some blank DVDs, etc.  But I guess you do not care about that...  And, as always I perused the fine selection of video games...

Zero copies of ANYTHING related to SWG.  Which is unusual for this particular Wal-Mart (west NC).  Yes they previously pulled all the gamecards a while ago.  Yes they pulled all the copies that were NOT The Starter Pack or newer expansions a while ago.  But they still had Starter Packs galore and a couple expansions until today.  Since I am in here all the time I know the guys here pretty good.  The manager of this store is one of my customers.  SO, I had him check things out for me.

He said he received a pull order from home office on a total of 4 SKUs, to be replaced by a brand new SKU effective 06/01/2006.  I asked him what the title was of this new SKU.  He said it was "LucasArts - Star Wars Galaxies" and it was indeed a brand new SKU according to the digits he was seeing.  The retail price for the new SKU was $59.99.  The SKUs that were pulled were The Starter Pack, The Total Experience, RotW, and ToOW.  I commented that the last two had not been around for a while, and he said the reorder was set to zero a while back, but not recalled until now.

SO...the new pack is expensive...as expensive as a new release game.  My GUESS would be it is a new rebundle of ALL expansions into one box, simliar to what the Total Experience was.  He agreed.  He also said that typically he would get a memo on something like this and that he did not this time.  He was simply told to pack it ALL up and ship it back to HQ. He put me down as a preorder on it and told me he would give me a shout when he got it in stock, he said probably around middle of May.  At the very least I can check it out before it is on the shelf, if I am lucky.

After I left, I went back to my office and decided what the hell, I called the Wal-Mart one town over and inquired about buying The Starter Pack - sorry, no longer available, and none in stock.  I then asked, when IT would be back in stock.  I was told that it is being replaced, and the new product would not be availale until the end of May.  My guess is the "end of May" is the same as "06/01/2006" but I could be reading too much into it.

I then realized something, and called my buddy back.  I asked him if the descriptions of the pulled product included the name LucasArts/SOE or just LucasArts.  He said the four pulled SKUs were SOE - SWG, NOT LA - SWG.  So for some reason the Wal-Mart inventory systems are now referring to Star Wars Galaxies as being LucasArts, not Sony Online Entertainment.  So this either means diddly squat and someone just put in the first company they saw, or indeed, SOE is NO LONGER producing this new overpriced box.

So, as usual, there is something going on behind the scenes, and no one is talking facts.  So there you go.  I am sure the guys on the SWG forums would love to know this info, but I am unable to post on SWG forums...so if one of you kind souls could drop a link over there it would be appreciated.

And as I have always said, I would give my left nut to play Pre-CU again, but it looks like my testicles will most likely remain intact for a while longer...unless of course this new kit is the Pre-CU code, with expansions and updates intact.../orgasm.

5k is not too bad...lol...I find the SWG forums are really a waste of time for whatever reason you are there (now a days).  Back in the day, it was a valuable resource for trading and communicating.  Now it is just a waste of time.  Anything of value is locked moved or deleted.  SO I merely read them, without contributing.  It seems everytime I am able to post, it mysteriously disappears right away anyway...best of luck to you.

Additionally, Best Buy has it marked as reorder quantity: 0.  No restocking.  I asked if they had anything "coming down the pike" and he said, not that I can see.  He did not see ANYTHING new coming with SWG name on it...so this could very well be Wal-Mart cleaning house.

I just called my local Wal-Mart store and they do have the Starter Kit on the shelf.

It is also still listed on their web site.

Could be they just havent received the notification yet to pull it ... I will be keeping and eye on it.

Do you think it could be due to the advent of the All Access Collection?

Do they have The Starter Kit, expansions?  What?  Just curious.  I am in Western North Carolina, tried two Wally-Worlds, got similiar answers, as I stated above.  My friend is a pretty responsible kind of guy, not one to let a work order sit around a few days...like some store managers may...curious.

I am going to GameStop tonight to pickup a Battlefield 2 expansion, I will check and see what they situation is o SWG.  It really sucks that SOE is so frackin' clueless...

I find this information a bit disturbing:

I did a search on the Best Buy website and couldn't find the starter kit listed....I might have not looked enough or put in the wrong search words, but I did come across this:

    Station Access Collection

Included in the list of games you can get is "Star Wars Galaxies: Starter Kit"...

I really hope this is a mis-print because I really want SOE out of the picture...

Obviously SOMETHING is going on. Just read the SOE forums for a few mins. It's nuts over there. Even the fanbois are turning on SOE. Rogue's publish plan was deleted. They're not saying ANYTHING about pub 28 except for being vague. They're not even mentioning any publishes after that. They're ALL OVER any thread that even mentions Bioware.
If it was just a new release of the same stuff, then they would NOT have gotten all existing boxes pulled. Also, they wouldn't even TRY to sell the same old stuff for $59.99. The game didn't even go for that when it was released, except for the special edition.
There has GOT to be a big change coming soon. The big question still is WHAT. IF the Bioware rumors are true, and some indicate that they're going to rework the Pre CU system to have an existing game going while developing the next one to coincide with the TV series, that would still be a ways off. Bioware is only NOW hiring developers. 2 months to rework Pre CU? They probably won't get THAT much done, but they could make it playable and released in that time. Then they could start fixing other stuff and adding content after June.
However, I'm SURE that Bioware could get things done MUCH faster than the "learned programming from a prison work release program" incompetent SOE devs. Hell, ANYONE can get things done faster than the current SOE devs.
Everything points to SOMETHING happening. Even if you choose not to believe anyone here, just watching the SOE forums indicates SOMETHING is going to happen. Also, I wouldn't believe the SOE mods when they say things aren't true. TH himself said the NGE rumors weren't true when they came out.
We'll just have to wait and see.

This would be a difficult path to learning much folks.

I worked at Radio Shack a long long time ago. Typically one store might carry an item that other stores had discontinued 4 years ago. Managers have a lot of discretion when it comes to store stock.

Even if an item was supposed to be removed, many times a manager would ignore it and leave it out in the hopes that it sells. If that manager sends it back, it got charged back to the store as a loss.

Anyway, I called my local BestBuy and asked about any SWG products. They have none in stock and none on the way.

I then called Walmart nearby and asked the same thing. They said they had an expansion JTL for sale for $9.99 and nothing else.

Well I remember a while back going to my Local EB Games store and seeing very few Starter Packs.  I asked if they were selling and they said there was no demand for them.  Maybe they might be making a new game or maybe not.  Let's see what June 1st brings.

Not a Flame, just some info:

Rogue_5's post was moved to the archive, so it wasn't deleted. The wierd thing is, WHY was it moved? None of the other, similar or older posts were moved.

The All Access Pack is supposed be released at $59.99. However, if I'm not mistaken, it was supposed to be released early May, and why would it be call SWG - LA?

Well, regardless, I bet we'll be finding out the truth just before E3...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Intrestingly enough bestbuy also has a limited supply of the Starter Kit... However they have something new coming out on March 23 2006 (tomrrow). Its one of sony's all station pass kits. It includes all their games including SWG. This might be why the stocks are gone..

Here is the link to bestbuy, it should be the second item listed.

Hopefully all these rumors about SWG going to bioware are true.

Interesting that bestbuy has the all access bundle listed at 39.99 yet the item that was mentioned is supposed to be 59.99.

I initially thought it was due to the current 'unpopularity' of the game, but have had real probs trying to buy SWG TTE in the UK. All game stores I've tried all have it out of stock and most Internet sites based in UK too...will be interesting to find out if it is being repackaged as a total SOE experience or 'anything else'....

...though you can download the free trial and addons from SOE online!

    I love these conspiracies....

Um, ToOW was never released to retail and was digital download only. How would you "manager friend" have any clue about it unless you just made that up? No sku would be generated by a brick and mortar company unless they had the physical product in their company. Furthermore, RotW was also never an induvidual sku as it was packaged with the Total Experience box set.

Wal-mart would have nothing to do with a digital download released only by SOE or Lucas Arts. I don't mean to ruin anyone's fun as I miss the old system(s) too... but damn SWG players need to stop falling for this crap.

Bioware COULD have a working version of Pre-CU on a server working by tomorrow. All that crap SOE flung out about not being able to do it is just that, crap. I'm giving them the credit of being even partially intelligent half mole people software developers (SOE). If they are, they have a very detailed, very concise original code structure from every publish since the launch of the game. It would seriously be the click of a few keystrokes to dump a version of this code onto a server. No DB support, everybody'd be starting fresh, but at this point, I think even Bioware knows nobody cares. I'd start over with a smile. SOE really insulted all of our intelligence with the whole "well we can't technically roll-back, very complicated technical mumbo jumbo, you wouldn't understand". Ummm, thanks SOE, but I'll judge that for myself. And from what I see they are grossly incompetent in every area of development. Yes, it would be hard to rollback with everyone's character and all expansions. But I'm pretty sure that I speak for everybody when I say I don't care if they convert all that crap in the short term.............take your time, fix it, make it work, then put it back in. Just give us back the game we paid for.

That would be key right there. IF Bioware were to have the new SWG (crosses fingers and puts on tin foil hat) I would rather they take their time fixing all the crap $OE screwed up and pushing out a quality product.image
