Okie, everyone knows its dead. Shot like your best dog you ever had and had to put it down for some reason. It hurts...You think to yourself "will there ever be another like it"? You hope and read forums... You play various games in hopes of filling that mmorpg itch... However, no...u find nothing. SOE gracefully bow out and go back to making crappy boom boxes. Anyhoo....I wonder how Mr. Lucas let his vision and idea get so freakin turned into "bantha poodoo". So, if you are out their please answer the call!   "Paging Mr. Lucas... George Lucas..." I am not a fan of SOE by a long shot but don't let Lucas off the hook so easily.  He holds the reins of Star Wars as tightly as he wants to hold them and don't for a second think he doesn't have an entire legion of lawyers ready to eviscerate anyone that gets between him and a buck where the Star Wars license is concerned.  Having said all of that, if he was really perturbed by the shoddy Star Wars MMO SOE is running I have no doubt he has contractual clauses galore that would allow him to rip it from SOE's grimy clutch and give it to whoever he wanted, shut it down completely or force SOE to make it the way he wanted to. 

My conclusion then is that Lucas couldn't care less as long as the check for the licensing fee clears.  I don't think he views SWG as any different than Yoda pajamas or Princess Leia Pez dispensers unfortunately.  His entertainment venue of choice is movies and everything else is just stuff to keep his movie machine well fed.

George Lucas is probably a very busy man. I would like to think that he does not know what is going on with SWG being there are execs at LA who probably deal with that stuff. If on the other hand GL does know whats going on, we could only hope his response (if there was one IE. SOE loosing the contract) has something to do with the rumors running around about bioware getting the ip.

I think Mordah hit the nail on the head.  Lucas couldn't care less what happens with SWG.  I mean, LucasArts has put out how many bad games now??  Anyone remember George frothing at the mouth over "Masters of the Teras Kasi", "Super Bombad Racing" or "Star Wars Chess"?

I've only seen evidence of him caring about what happens to his IP when it starts to effect how he is telling the story.  Video games happen to fall below that radar, apparently.

Anyone waiting for Lucas to come riding in to the rescue is putting their money on the wrong horse, I believe.

The Force.net had an interview with him a long time ago (pre-nge) and they asked about SWG.
His response was something to the tune of "Star Wars Galaxies? I think my son tried that once, you should ask him about it."

Mr Lucas gets a check every month. Others take his distractions away. SWG wasn't important to him... sad but true.
