Hey guys, I am ussually roaming the general forums but came here to ask a question. I bought my psp roughly around the time it came out, and just now about 1 year later(granted there were many dry spells where I did not play) the console's square button keeps sticking into the pad and i have to use my nail to prop it out. It happens about every 4 times I press it and is literally making many game unplayable. Was there are news on this, and can I get this fixed for free?

Here is a pic...

I don't have a PSP, but I do have a friend who has had this problem. He took it back to GAME (a shope in the UK), and they gave him a new one...sooo you could always try and return it to where you bought it.

You could try sending it in to sony,or go to best buy and they have a counter there where they fix and help you install things there. i bet best buy could help because i had to go there to fix a camera i had but i didnt even buy it at best buy and they still helped. but its not free but its not very expensive either so try there.

Well I would go back but the thing is, that was a year ago and I have moved to Georgia since then. It was in Texas so it would be sort of hard to go back to the place I got it from =(.

Well yes I could do that, although I am in college and its sort of had to get to a best buy without a car...Hmm, I read somewhere on the net this.

Speaking to Japanese business daily The Nikkei Journal, Kutaragi-san spoke of how the PSP's Square button (the one on the left of the diamond - the Stuart Dowling of the PSP's buttons, if you will) is positioned extremely close to the handheld's screen, which was recently confirmed as being larger than the State of Alaska. The close proximity of button to screen means the contact switch inside the unit is not truly centred, resulting in an unresponsive or 'sticky' button press for a minority of unlucky PSP owners.

Reading this gives me the idea that it cannot just be "fixed" casually. It seems I might need to send it into sony, sigh, but are there any other suggestions before that? Because its s year old and I dought they were even care about me.

That is a huge problem with the PSP at the moment. When it first came out they put the square bottom so close to the screen that it would either get jammed or never work at all.
A friend of mine tried sending it in for repairs and they denied him.

You can try your luck out. I don't know his full story, I can't say it's true.

That happens with the early versions of the psp. Anyone who got it about 5 months into release may have it. It's not a problem, but it is annoying.

The ironic thing is that my warrantee is about to end on april 2nd lol...Damn did I call them just in time.

Well I mailed mine in on the 26th and am hoping for it to return within 25 days(that was their estimate). But Mine was a version "Psp-1001" version. If you open the batterypack part on the back and take it out, it will tell you your version number on the top part. I'd check it and if it was the same as mine, just tell them the button sticks and get yourself a new version because who knows, one day after your warranty has run out, it could stick like a mofo and you will have to either live with it or spend another 200/300 bucks. I know its odd though how it started to stick a freaking year after I bought it, seems sorta wierd....
