Dev Team coming to a city near you.

Don't know if this has been posted here or not.  However, I just found it over at the vault network forums...

This April, the developers of the game you love are coming to a city near you! Beginning April 6, 2006, members of the LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment development teams will be traveling to several cities around the US in a series of community summits.

Here's your chance to talk with the developers face to face, find out about upcoming plans and future developments for the game, ask them questions in a live Q&A format, and connect with fellow players.

We want to meet you, hear what you have to say, and tell you about the exciting things we have planned for 2006 and beyond. Stay tuned for details on where, when and all the other information including how to register (although all events are free of charge) coming soon.

About the First Event:

Our first event is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 7 th from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM in Atlanta at the Marriott Atlanta Marquis. More details to follow. Please check back soon for more information.

I only played SWG in beta and could tell right away it wasn't for me.  I do, howwever, hope they come to some where in Oklahoma.  I've never seen a herd of gamers tar and feather anyone before, but I want to be there if it happens :)

While a lot of us might get a momentary sense of gratification from tarring and feathering the lot of them, I don't think it's really so much what we REALLY want to do. There are some things that people need to remember when they meet these guys face to face.

    1) These guys AREN'T the original devteam. They're not even the second set of devs. Some of these guys just got here. That's right, it's the dev noobs.

    2) While devs on the road are not devs on the code, dead devs make no publishes. Sure, they're dicking around still, all play and no game, but they aren't going to fix things their way OR our way if they don't come back with all their fingers.

    3) Yelling at them, calling them (insert expletive here) and showing them personal animosity is not going to make them at all inclined to make the game better for you. If anything, it strengthens their misconception that the SWG gamer is a flaming retard and must be both talked down to and coded down to Fisher Price standards of gameplay.

    4) You need to differentiate between the job and the man doing it. None of us have an accurate picture of who these devs are. Just because you hate the work he's done doesn't mean he himself is worthy of your hate.

    5) And most importantly, don't let them off easy with such poor tactics as just digging in and saying "gimmee my pre-CU". We know this won't work because that's just too vague for them to work from, even if they were enthusiastic about making things right. Get specific. Think about things in advance. Write a list of things you liked from the pre-CU and ask for them point by point. Instead of saying "gimmee pre-CU", tell them "I want twenty man teams and the interdependency that makes these groups enjoyable" or "I can't discuss tactics in the team while I'm with my friends, please give me a target lock and user friendly chat options so that I have a reason to keep playing".

We've seen what they have to say about a lot of our issues, but a lot of that is far easier for them to say when they aren't face to face with us and don't see the sincerity and the desire to remain a dedicated customer. It's far less easy to keep saying those things when confronted with an intelligent, sincere and devoted playerbase that won't accept bad logic and worse excuses. FORCE them to work with you by remaining polite and force them to continue the dialog by insisting that it remain open in both directions until you have a game worth playing. Punish bad answers with repeated emphasis on the topics they pertain to, persisting until they can give you answers that are not only pertinent to the issues, but satisfy you as well as a player.

We criticise reviewers and interviewers for being too easy on SOE, but when we engage in dialog with them like happened last Friday, too many are easily mollified by a fancy "sit down and shut up". Don't be a hypocrite.

I'd love to share, in an objective and constructive manner, the exact nature of my dissatisfaction with LA/SOE.  Here's hoping it comes to fruition.
