This is not a game review, just a quick and dirty appreciation of Auto Assault.
The game feels a little bit like Diablo meets Carmageddon (for those who had the chance to play that game). You get the fun of driving hitting and squashing some nasty pedestrian, and collect objects to make nicer gear.
What I have to say towards it, is this game is fun to play. It is fun to drive around on roads or apocaliptic landscape, it's fun to destroy buildings shooting and arrive like a comet in the middle of mutant crowd, the trade skills are fun too making for interesting trade, and customizing your vehicle is fun as well.
It's more like the kind of mindless fun you'd get grinding your way clicking on monsters in Diablo than the higher end role playing of Everquest, but if you like that this game is for you.
The trade skill system is worth a look, it is based on the looting you do in game, and trading these items between players. Note there is no bazaar like system, at least not in the beta, so you trade player to player, like the good old times, it's got its pros and cons, the cities are quite small, so it helps. The trade skill follows a skills tree a la Diablo.
Now the trade skills really is the only real MMO element of the game. There is not a very strong incentive to grouping (making a convoy), as the game is too easy you can level really fast soloing.
The quests are really simple and straight forward missions that send you places to do just what the game is about; driving, shooting and destroying. While the quest system is seemless and does very well the above, it doesn't really add up to the game (faction, role playing, or the likes).
So all in all, the game makes for some good fun, but I hear they intend to charge 15 USD a month for this and I really don't think it is worth it.
